Jessica's problem was that her negatives outweighed her positives. Her voice: Yeah, it's pretty and all, but I feel like her vocals were so easy to guess. Yeah, it was like watching a fireworks show at first, but after time it begins to get boring. However, some of her vocals were amazing. When she was good she was good, when she wasn't amazing she was extremely bland with good vocals. Stage Presence: She lacked this completely. She looked like a deer in headlights most of the time on that stage and it was just awkward. Personality: Again, she was very boring. I'm sure she had more personality off cameras, but if you're trying to earn votes you gotta take some chances. Song Choice: As the competition went on her song choices began to blend. Marketability: It's impossible to market Jessica in this country. Phillip beat her because he has tons of stage presence and personality. Plus, he is much easier to market than Jessica. Technically, Jessica kills him vocally, but he was still a good enough singer, and he has other things besides a voice going for him whereas Jessica did not. Jessica - √XXXX Phillip - X√√√√ The voice isn't the only factor on this show. Phillip is overall way better than Jessica. So, to answer this thread's original question, Jessica never had a chance. yeah pretty much this. -------------------- |

I most disagree with on marketability. The negatives that Steven levied against Jessica Sanchez are false. It may have to do with race factor when it comes to marketability. It IS possible to market Jessica Sanchez in the United States. Her music genre is very much mainstream compared to Phillip Phillips, despite the impressive sales of his single "Home." Bruno Mars is half Filipino, so he is very marketable. A Filipino R&B singer can be as marketable as a Black or White R&B singer. Charice Pempengco, who was born in the Philippines, is a pop singer. The unmarketable Filipino singers are pop singers. The only criticisms levied against Jessica's song choice are at top 11, the third leg of top 3, and the coronation song "Change Nothing." Jessica Sanchez is easily marketable outside the United States. She is not just another Filipina singer, like Camile Velasco, Jasmine Trias, Ramiele Malubay, or Thia Megia. She is not like the other Filipinas. Phillip Phillips is not too marketable outside the United States. I hope Steven is proven wrong when it comes to marketability.

Bruno Mars is half Filipino, so he is very marketable. He's not marketable cause he's half Filipino. If people didn't keep mentioning that, I would honestly have no idea he was half asian. Being asian and half asian are totally different. Tiger Woods is half asian, but people still just see him as black. Being Asian does not help someone in the US market place. Sad, but true. -------------------- ![]() And you never knew why you felt so good. In the strangest of places.

America DOES NOT = American Idol audience. Let's make that clear. How dare you say that it is impossible to market her. Imma bitch slap you right now jk... or not.

Of course, you can always have your criteria where Phillip would beat out Jessica but I don't know where the hell you got that Phillip has better stage presence than Jessica. Phillip looks awkward on stage and the way he lifts his leg is very Dave Matthews. No way is he original like most claim. He is a Dave Matthews copycat basically. Have you even seen DMB? These.
1. the voice - it's amazing and i don't find it boring at all. i love the different vocal tricks she does when she performs. i like pp's voice too and i think their voices are way too different to be compared but when it comes to technique, jessica wins for me. 2. stage presence - i have to disagree with you on this one. i think she owns the stage everytime and she interprets songs amazingly. dance with my father was very emotional, steal away was sexy, proud mary was fun, and and i am telling you was just an emotional outpour. she is just so much fun to watch. for me she is one of those singers who demand attention when they sing. i could say the same for pp though; i also feel drawn into him when he sings. for me the one who acted like "a deer in headlights" is hollie. she has a very good voice but she looks so nervous in most of her performances. 3. personality - well i follow her closely on twitter and watch her pre-idol youtube videos so i can't be an objective judge of her personality if the only basis should be what is shown on tv. i know she's really quiet in real life though so if quiet=no personality then yeah, maybe she has less personality than pp. on a slightly different note, i really would've liked if idol showed more off-stage videos of the contestants. i know some like it better when it's purely about singing, but i like too see how they are when not singing too. i think it would've been more fun if they showed heejun-pp-colton, jessica-deandre, josh-hollie-skylar, and elise-erika friendships when offstage, but that's just me. 4. song choice - again, i have to disagree with this one. her song choices are highly varied, from fast (proud mary, turn the beat around) to mid-tempo (love you i do), to real slow (you are so beautiful) to big diva ballads (AIATY). the themes and emotions for each song are different too. i think pp is actually the one whose song choices seem to blend. each song sounds good on its own but when played one after the other, they are very similar. aside from the standouts (at least for me--home, volcano, we've got tonight), the rest sound very much the same. he didn't offer variety. 5. marketability - i am not from the US so i am in no way a good judge for this but seeing pp's sales, i'd say it's safe to assume that pp is more marketable. i won't say that it is "impossible" to market jessica though. seriously, i don't know why we're still doing this. pp won, jessica is happy for him, philatics are happy for him, i think blujays are either happy for him or are just 'meh' about it. from what i've seen on idf, it's only Ted who is left still sourgraping about it. anyway, as pp has said in one of his interviews, music is subjective and that's the beauty of it. Some of these criticisms don't make much sense because they apply to other contestants way more. Stage Presence: "Dear in the headlights" is how they were describing Hollie, not Jessica. Jimmy almost said directly Hollie should perform more like Jessica, who had way more stage presence and polish, because of her experience. Personality: Jessica is not cutesy, bubbly and awe-shucks all the time like Hollie and Skylar. The whole "she needs to show more personality" thing only popped up when people were trying to figure out why she got the lowest votes after top 7 week. She showed tons of personality IMO during the finale week during interviews, when they didn't hide her any more. Song Choice: It was Phillip, Hollie and Joshua who were criticized for doing the same thing every time, not Jessica. Jessica had THE most varied performances of anyone who finished in the top 5. Marketability: A half Filipino can certainly be marketed and very popular. Bruno Mars for example. -------------------- AI Forever: Kelly Clay Diana Carrie Kat Melinda Syesha Allison Crystal Haley Jessica

Fans get delusional their AI favorite will become the next ______ but in reality, 9 times out of 10, that doesn't happen. Just because someone can mimic or sound like a certain singer does not mean they will be the next. -------------------- |
