Iwien, she prolly misunderstood the whole meaning of overrrated for honest reasons. I hope she comes back to visit this thread and reclarify her post.

She nailed that song, from the beginning in a cappella, to THE note mid-song, to the very end when she went up the octaves. Perfect pitch and control all the way through. Is there another contestant on Idol this year that you think could have pulled that off?

A lot of BET fans from yesterday night tweeted something to that effect. That Jay should have been part of the Whitney tribute.

Originally I thought that IWALY was good but a bit overrated, but after seeing Jordin sing it and then the guy on Duets try to sing it, I gained a whole new appreciation for what Jessica did. It might be a bit too much like the original, but the ease in which see sung it blows my mind.

So I no longer have that in my overrated column. I would say the most overrated performances IMO:

The Show Must Go On
Dance With My Father
We've Got Tonight
To Love Somebody

Go Light Your World - Technically, it was good. Emotionally, it was soulless.
I Will Always Love You - It was great but it was almost an exact copy of Whitney's version. She didn't make it her own. That IDOLOGY episode didn't deserve all those dislikes.
When A Man Loves A Woman - The judges must sit down. It was good but not standing O worthy.
Piano Man - It was good, but the whining and squeaking makes it hard to listen to completely.
Whole Lotta Love - No doubt this is one of the best performances, but the best? Come on.
Rolling In The Deep - Sharp practically throughout the whole song. I am not kidding. No doubt I can feel her anger, but I wasn't back on the Hollie train yet.
Home - I love the studio, but his performance was not special. And the ah-ing was flat throughout.

While I agree that Jessica's IWALY is overratted but it is only overrated relative to HER other performances which I think are better but didn't get enough as much praise. But relative to the others' performances, it deserves the praise it got. Maybe, even more. I felt she was judged on a different scale. Others were thrown massive praises for mediocre performances. I mean, that is a hard ass song to sing and she gave it justice. The breathing skills required to do what she did was so dang crazy. The three last notes she did at the end. Everything was just captivating about it. I honestly can't think of anyone among the top 13 who would've done a better job at it. Hell, she even did a better job compared to established artists asked to do tribute performances for Whitney. And fyi, Jessica's IWALY is not an EXACT copy of Whitney's. You won't notice it if you don't appreciate subtle musical variations. And *cough* it's a tribute performance

You are correct; but since opinions are all subjective, the others are not wrong either.

Phillip - i forget the song, but it just boring and safe performance but the judges give a standing O, i believe it the same week when they give sanding O for Heejun and Deandre, 5 SO in one night

Home: Admit it. If not for the drumline that made almost half of the song, it was just ok/bland. The production really held a huge hand for his win.

Volcano: If you had listened to the original Damien Rice song (I looove his O album, btw), you know P2's version is karaoke. Heck, even the staging of the performance is similar to the music video, the microphone, the other woman singing..It's just so unfair that in AI, only in singing ballads/pop songs are you considered karaoke.

Love You I Do - It was good and it showed her sass and gorgeous vibrato. But I think a standing O is not necessary. Well, I think all of her standing O's except for this were well deserved.

Man, I couldn't even remember when he didn't have an overrated performance. But I think It's a Man's Man's World and the India.Arie song (the runs he made were just unbelievable. I couldn't help to be awed) were worthy of the praises.

I like Hollie and I wanted her to break out of her nerves during the show. But the judges standing for The Climb was just like giving a toddler a bag of candies for just showing up in school.

AGREE. especially with Phillip and Jessica. They call Jessica a "mimic" but then Volcano is very similar to the original. I mean, a lot of Jessica's performances were far from the original. And I do think "Home" is overrated; I thought he barely sang and that the drumline and backup singers carried most of it.

I think Jessica's I Will Always Love You was overrated. It honestly didn't sound amazing. I love Jessica, but they made it out to be way better than it was.

I only mentioned my personal attitude towards Jessica to stress that I may not be 100% objective in my opinion
