So You Think You Can Dance . . . In Drag



Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!! In an attempt to combine two of my recent obsessions, I'm making my redux debut with a Rupaul's Drag Race themed dance-off.

We'll start with 46 auditionees (the 46 queens of Rupaul's Drag Race), and narrow those down to a top 20 who will compete to be IDF's Dancing Queen!!

Don't watch the drag race?? No worries, each queen will be assigned a dance style at least one real-life sytycd influence to correspond with that style, so you can sign-up and vote for you favorite sytycders and/or your favorite drag queens!! Also, the redux will be following the US8 format, so at the top 10, the queens will be dancing with sytycd all-stars (and I'll be accepting your suggestions for all-stars/routines)

Welcome to So You Think You Can Dance in Drag! I'm your host, Cat Deeley, in Los Angeles for the first day of So You Think You Can Dance in Drag auditions!!



AUDITIONEES

ONGINA

Style: B-Boy
SYTYCD influence: Tadd Guaddang

Ongina's dance style is unique as her drag syle.
Ongina doesn't wear wigs or pads, because she
doesn't want anything to get in the way of her
giving 100% on the dancefloor.

SHANNEL

Style: Contemporary
SYTYCD influences: Melanie Moore & Nick Lazzarini

Shannel was the first ever winner of RuPaul's drag race,
so naturally she would compare herself to the first ever
winner of sytycd. Shannel also looks up to the lovely
and talented Melanie Moore. Like Melanie, Shannel's
dancing is flawless perfection.

NINA FLOWERS (Wallace*)

Style: Jazz
SYTYCD influences: Mark Kanemura & Courtney Galiano

Nina's style of jazz is dark and sexy (just like her). Nina can't
wait for the chance to work with Sonya Tayeh.

TAMMIE BROWN

Style: Ballroom/Swing
SYTYCD influences: Benji & Lacey Schwimmer

Tammie's drag style and dance style are both inspired by old Hollywood.

MORGAN MCMICHAELS

Style: Acro/Contemporary
SYTYCD influences: Jordan Clark & Matt Marr

Morgan is a tumbler and contortionist, who also excels
in other dance styles as well.

RAVEN (totes4totes)

Style: Contemporary
SYTYCD influences: Blake McGrath & Jayme Rae Dailey

Rounding out the day is the lovely and talented Raven. Her sexy
style of contemporary dancing is as fierce as she is.

for a second day of auditions.

DELTA WORK

Style: Tap
SYTYCD influences: Peter Sabasino & Martha Nichols

In addition to being a fierce tapper look out for Delta when it
comes to hip-hop. Just like her name, this California girl can work it!

RAJA

Style: Contemporary
SYTYCD influences: Nico Archambault & Sasha Mallory

As a drag race winner, Raja connects with Nico's dance style
and ability, but Raja is also inspired by Sasha. . .after all, they're
both glamberts.

VENUS D-LITE (Wallace*)

Style: Ballroom
SYTYCD influences: Denitsa & Christian

Venus is a Madonna impersonator & ballroom dancer from Los Angeles.
Her favorite sytycd couple is Denitsa & Christian.

CHAD MICHAELS (totes4totes)

Style: Contemporary
SYTYCD influences: Kathryn McCormick & Thayne Jasperson

Chad is a Cher impersonator and contemporary dancer from San Diego.
Off-stage, Chad may be a bit more reserved that the other girls, but don't
let that fool you. . .

WILLIAM

Style: Contemporary
SYTYCD influences: Kent Boyd & Lauren Froderman

William's dancing style may compare to Kent's but Willam is
a far cry from naive farm boy. An experienced dancer, Willam's
biggest weakness could be that he's too confident.

Jade is the love child of Kimcent. Need I say more?

AKASHIA

Style: Hip-Hop
SYTYCD influences: Carlena & Boneless

Akashia's favorite sytycd couple of all time is Carlena & Boneless.
Like Boneless, Akashia's known to find herself in some strange positions,
and like Carlena, she's kind of a Britch.

MYSTIQUE SUMMERS MADISON (KrAdIsonSox)

Style: Hip-Hop/Popping
SYTYCD influences: tWitch Boss & Comfort Fedoke

Mystique is a popper from Bedford, Texas. Her signature move
is called the two-piece-and-a-biscuit.

BEBE ZAHARA BENET

Style: African Jazz
SYTYCD influences: Ashle Dawson & Will Wingfield

A native of Cameroon, Bebe Zahara's dance style has a lot
of African influences. She's graceful & energetic.

SHANGELA LAQUEFAH WADLEY (brownies)

Style: Hip-Hop & Country-Western Line Dancing
SYTYCD influences: ???

Shangela's dance style is a combination of hip-hop &
country-western line dancing she calls Hick-Hop. . .

This versatile queen is out to prove that even if a plus-size
girl can't win RuPaul's Drag Race, she can still succeed on sytycd.

DIDA RITZ

Style: Ballroom
SYTYCD influences: Natalli Reznik & Danny Arbour

Dida Ritz is a ballroom dancer with a little something extra. . .
She's also trained in other dance styles. Is she jack-of-all-trades
or master of none?

PHI PHI O'HARA (jstxanothrxstory)

Style: Tap
SYTYCD influences: Everett Smith & Tara-Jean Popowich

Phi Phi is a tapper with a little something extra. . . She's also
trained in contemporary jazz and ballet. Her style is fun & quirky.

THE PRINCESS

Style: Krump
SYTYCD influences: Natalie Lyons

Don't let the name fool you, this princess
is one tough cookie. Will she be the only
krumper to audition?

VICTORIA PARKER (Erestor)

Style: Ballroom
SYTYCD influences: The DiLellos

Victoria's already a national drag champion,
now she's ready to add dance to her list of
accolades. In addition to the DiLellos, Victoria
can't wait to work with Tony & Melanie. Her favorite
ballroom style is the Jive.

JUJU BEE (KrAdIsonSox)

Style: Latin Ballroom
SYTYCD influences: Asuka Kondoh & Jonathan Platero

Juju Bee is out to prove that Asian girls can dance!! This super-
talented queen's only weakness is that she sometimes chokes
under pressure, but that didn't stop her from making the top 3
in RuPaul's drag race and it's not going to stop her here.

PANDORA BOXX (totes4totes)

Style: Tap
SYTYCD influences: Nick Young & Iveta Lukosuite

Pandora's larger-than-life personality and dance skills are
sure to make her a crowd favorite. Watch out, because in
addition to being a fierce tapper, this girl also knows her
way around a ballroom.

SAHARA DAVENPORT (boogieshooz)

Style: Classical Ballet
SYTYCD influences: Melissa Sandvig & Ade Obayomi

Sahara actually is a professional dancer and has already
previewed her ballet skills on the Drag Race runway. Sahara
is here auditioning with her partner Manila Luzon. . .

MANILA LUZON (jstxanothrxstory)

Style: Broadway
SYTYCD influences: Jess LeProtto & Clarice Ordaz

Manila's sparkling personality earned her the number 2
spot on RuPaul's Drag Race. She's hoping it will help her
achieve victory here.

TATIANA (Erestor)

Style: Jazz
SYTYCD influences: Mackhalie

Tatiana may come across as an airhead
at times, but she's a fierce queen that
doesn't give a fcuk what you think.

The oh so sexy Carmen is the perfect
combination of Anya & Pasha. She almost
quit the competition though when she found
out she couldn't dance naked.

MIMI IMFURST (Erestor)

Style: Broadway
SYTYCD influences: Evan Kasprczak & Randi Evans

This queen is her own biggest fan & her own worst enemy.
She's not very versatile, but when in her element, she has
real star power!!

JIGGLY CALIENTE

Style: B-Boy
SYTYCD influence: Legacy Perez

Jiggly is hot just like her name. Just like
Legacy, Jiggly has the potential to be a
polarizing contestant-- you're either going
to love her or hate her.

SHARON NEEDLES (boogieshooz)

Style: Contemporary
SYTYCD influences: Jakob Karr & Allison Holker

Sharon's quirky dance style is as outrageous as her drag
style. You can count on her to stand out from the crowd.

MILAN

Style: Popping
SYTYCD influences: Ivan Koumaev & Ashlee Nino

Milan is a great dancer with impeccable style. The only
concern with her is if she has enough personality to
connect with the voters.
