As I said, it was in jest. I probably don't like 60-70% of the songs, but I was picking anything that was within the past 7-8 years. The point is to contrast it with the Frank Sinatra, Etta James, Elvis Presley, Bee Gees and Beatles songs we're constantly inundated with. It's also to reveal that AI has cleared at least four dozen songs from within the past five years, yet you'll never see the contestants performing any of them.

I think the trio of Elise/Erika/Jen are smart enough not to pick songs that have been done to death on idol. No Celine Dion or At Last...Please! Maybe one of them could do a song done by a male singer.

Idol should make use of the song choices list this season. There's a ton of current choices out there. No more attempts to sing old songs in that old-fashioned way really well, and no more attempts to modernize old songs. Pop/R&B contestants are probably screwed that way, because as Melanie Amaro found out with her "Respect" cover, the only way to modernize an old song is through autotune and a dance beat. And have a current theme week other than Nickelback week.

They should have a song twist week. Force contestants to watch youtube cover twists and imitate them.
Here's some: Country version of Jason DeRulo Linkin Park cover of Adele Emo rock version of Cyndi Lauper Dance version of Bryan Adams Phillip Phillips will excel at this category. The only interesting thing about him is twisting hip hop songs. --------------------
