Bahahaha

Yep, basically what I predicted.

Well, Chris is in LA signing his contract today as reported by one of his close friends. Young Homie will be released this month. We'll see soon enough, won't we. Funny how Hits Daily Double Rumor mill was all abuzz about Young Homie being released this month and they aren't talking about Melanie's first single. Epic knows who will make the money.

Almost all the famous Female singers (Gaga, Adele, P!nk, Taylor Swift heck even Beyonce and Nicki Miinaj!) write their own songs... Katy, Rihanna and Britney seem to be the only popular females that don't write their own songs but all of them know what songs to choose their songs because they are savy.... Mel is up against some very stiff competiton most of them singer-songwriters who have a huge advantage over others. And the ones who don't are all established acts... Mel has a long road ahead of her. Plus the Diva genre doesn't sell here and even if Mel does a mix of uptempo and balleds she'll just be a Beyonce clone.

Katy, Rihanna and Britney dont choose any of their music. They are the definition of puppets (although I like all of them), but I doubt any of them have very much creative say.

Actually I think Brittney is in control of her career (not her life but consedering her breakdown thats a good thing)... she's been around for a LONG time so I think she knows how to choose her songs... but honestly they are all out of Mel's leauge. Britney's not going anywhere and Katy and Rihanna get sdome catchy songs (and Rihanna was involved with writing on her Rated R album so she at least has SOME song writing ability)

Either way siner-songwriters are in now Chris, Josh and Astro write their own songs putting them at an avantage over Mel. plus whatever she does she's gonna be accuses of being a clone she has hardly any orginality and that voice can only get her so far... and I just looked on Katy's albm she actually wrote her songs... so that adds her into the singer-songwriter area... so Brittney seems to be the only one whpo has never wrote her own songs...

Is it true that LA will be the one in charge of Mel's career? If so, I doubt she'll go the diva way, so she might do better than I initially thought. thumbsup.gif

LA is the CEO of Epic, but Simon has made it absolutely clear that she is his artist. Simon gets what he wants. SYCO and X-Factor are his babies. She is his first winner. You have to know he will be calling the shots. He won't have it any other way.

that's good she won't be doing diva but what? all her competition sans Brittney and Rihanna and maybe a few others write their own songs (yes even Katy belive it her not on both her albums she is credidted as a writer in all of her songs) and Rihanna was involved in writing most of her songs on Rated R. I just hope LA doesn't make her into a Beyonce clone... because she really doesn't compare to Beyonce at all...

Unlike Chris, Astro or Josh we don't have her in a definite Genre sure she can do both uptempo and ballads but there is simply no room for another female super-star... I do wish her luck and a don't HATE her I just never found her interesting..

I'm sure Simon wants the first XFUS winner to be a success, so he might listen to LA to make it happen. He's painfully aware that Leona's career here didn't quite live up to his expectations, and LA can remind him if he forgot. whistling.gif

Something I'm not sure about: did Simon have to share Mel with LA, or did he choose to?

Simon listen? lol

Of course Simon wants Melanie to be a success...that's not the issue. The issue is that Simon is completely deluded when it comes to understanding what Americans actually buy. Dude is stuck in the 90's hardcore. He has been trying since American Idol started to get a diva to try to succeed with in the US. I seriously think he has some kind of Tommy Mottola fetish or something. He was convinced he'd found it in Leona but aside from her first album she flopped hard here. Instead of simply accepting the fact that Americans don't have the same taste as Brits in music he apparently thinks Leona didn't make it in the US because she's not American...so he is at it again...this time with Melanie. I don't think his madness is ever going to stop and he's just going to turn what COULD be a great show that finds artists with REAL super star potential into his own personal diva farm. He will never, never, never learn. The best Melanie can hope for is that he loses interest in her after he turns her first album into a Mariah clone and moves on and that LA Reid helps her "re-invent" herself into something that might stand a shot at doing alright.

I know that you are really talking about US sales but even so Leona has sold 1.3mil/1.4mil albums in the US.
Worldwide
Kelly Clarkson - 18 million from 5 albums
Carrie Underwood - 12.5 million from 3 albums
Leona Lewis - 11.5 million from 2 albums

Outside of the US Leona's 2 albums have outsold Kelly and Carrie's 8 albums put together.
Figures from Wiki

Wiki is out of date for worldwide sales.

Now, If I could only find my post I made about a month or 2 ago comparing the 2.

I think worldwide sales Kelly has 26 or was it 23 and Carrie 16. This was before this fall and Kelly's 5th album.

Source 1 Nov 09:
In the United States Carrie has sold 100,000 more than Kelly as of November 2009. World Wide Carrie has sold over 10 million while Kelly has sold over 23 million.Carrie may have the highest selling album in the US but not worldwideSome Hearts has sold 8 to 9 Million WorlwideBreakaway has sold just over 12 Million WorldwideAnd all Kelly has sold over 57 Million records worldwide ( Albums and Singles )Carrie has sold just over 20 Million records worldwide ( Albums and Singles )I Like Carrie just as much as Kelly but Kelly is way more successful

In a word, no. Scotty is likely going to be eventually platinum. Even getting gold is a challenge these days.

Not sure how I missed the last part of your post.

When LA Reid was named CEO of Epic the news release made it pretty clear that Epic would be the default X-Factor label. That doesn't mean that all prior contestants will automatically go there, but it's where they will go if they win OR Simon wants to sign them and they either don't get or aren't happy with offers made by other Sony labels. It's pretty clear that LA Reid and Chris have had a strong connection from the start, so I wouldn't expect Chris to want to work with anyone but LA Reid. I don't think Simon wanted Melanie on Epic to be honest. The initial rumor was another Sony label. My guess would be that the other labels won't buy into Simon's reinvention of the 90's diva idea so he decided on Epic so he can have more control over the kind of album Melanie makes.

This. Scotty was able to do it because, like Carrie, he's a popular country winner. Even then, there's no way his album will sell over 7 million copies like Some Hearts did. He'll be platinum for sure, which is a huge accomplishment these days, even for a country artist! thumbsup.gif

Just because Chris is going to release Young Homie as a single doesn't mean its gonna be huge, but hey, if he does outsell Scotty or even some others from Idol, then more power to him! I have no strange obsession with seeing him flop, so if he ends up a success good for him.

Although certain people here will never say the same as I just said but exchange the name Chris for Melanie...

Also, Top 40 is mostly a singles market right not an albums market? So, he might sell huge for his singles but only do ok on albums b/c why pay $10 when you don't really like all 10? And often, it's more than $10.

But but he is the most original new song writer and producer to come out in the last 50 years! Have you forgotten already?

The quoted Wiki figures are from RIAA certification and neilsen scan and are 2011 figures.

Oh I know, I didn't know how to post, but your point still came loud and clear and is right w/o dirtying up the post more.

Weird, that you have 2011 data but the numbers I have for 09, 10, and 11 all show increasing numbers and more than what you found. I know Carrie has more than a few 100K sold outside the US heck she has 1mil off of just one album just in Canada. Yes she won't get a huge number worldwide since she is country and isn't promote outside the US but 12.5 is the US sales data not worldwide.

Kelly on the other hand, I could believe 18mil, but why are their reports of 23mil and that number was reported in 09 and 11...so I think the 26 I read 2 months ago was more actual.
