"The Boot" is a Country website that I believe is somehow affiliated with AOL. They posted a list of 10 songs that they want to be singles in 2012, and "Breaking Your Own Heart" was #7 on that list
QUOTE 7. 'Breaking Your Own Heart,' Kelly Clarkson With her recent CMA award win and two massive country singles with pals Reba McEntire and Jason Aldean, the big-voiced singer inches further into country territory. Although much of her latest album features the angsty singer's signature pop-rock sound, the stripped-down, album-closer 'Breaking Your Own Heart,' co-written by country singer Jennifer Hanson, proves Kelly has the versatility to become a full-fledged country artist, should she chose to do so. http://www.theboot.com/2011/12/29/new-country-music-2012/ This post has been edited by aifanatic100: Jan 1st 2012, 2:36 PM --------------------

Seriously they need to do it. It's one of my favorite songs on the album and would fit so well on Country Radio. And the Country crowd clearly loves Kelly with how much she's done involving them. I think it'd only help her album sales.

I agree. I don't think it would do very well on top 40 stations so I'd leave it off them, but if she premieres it at one of the big Country awards I could see it going top 10 on the Country format. I'd say The Sun Will Rise has even greater potential.

I'd say The Sun Will Rise has even greater potential. That would be really great And I'm not saying it is necessary, but I think it would be a wise possibility....what if she were to re-record "The Sun Will Rise" with a big name female Country artist? My idea would be Reba, Carrie Underwood, or Miranda Lambert since she seems to be fans of all three and they are all very successful right now This would be a great way to segway a bit into a more Country direction too because I'm sure that whenever Kelly is away from RCA (whatever time that may be) she will start to dabble more in Country and Blues influenced stuff and stray a bit from the Pop stuff. --------------------

It's a pretty song but I'm not really for the idea, if Kelly targets the country charts with a single, I would like it to be specifically made for the chart instead of sort of a throwaway gesture.

Well the country influences of both songs are clear. It's not like it's a pop song she'd be putting out to country radio. Yep its called New Country which is another name for pop/country. That includes artists like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Lady Antebellum etc.

Honestly, top country radio these days is more pop than country. Yeah but I honestly think that "Breaking Your Own Heart" and "The Sun Will Rise" (specifically the Smoakstack arrangement) have more genuine Country influence than some things on Country radio nowawdays (Taylor Swift --------------------

If they were to release a song, I think TSWR would do better than BYOH. -------------------- ![]() |

^^I agree If they were to release a song, I think TSWR would do better than BYOH. I think the album version of TSWR would need something before it to do well. It has Country influences, but they aren't strong enough imo to be a breakout for her on her own. For that reason, I think that BYOH needs to be released first, as a hype single, if nothing else. --------------------

I would hardly say Don't You Wanna Stay is pop and it did very well. They still play mostly Country songs on Country stations. Personally I would have released Breaking Your Own Heart as the fourth single. I'm very happy with The Sun Will Rise as it is and feel Kara does a good job and their voices blend in well. If Breaking Your Own Heart goes top 10, I don't feel she needs help and The Sun Will Rise should stay the same. If it doesn't go top 10, you'd have to change the song and do a different version with an established Country singer(preferably not Aldean or Reba). In both cases, The Sun Will Rise should have been left off the album and put on a later one.

She could though do TSWR what she did with "Beautiful Disaster"- and record a live version (making it more country) and then have it on her next album, a live version could still go out as a single

Oh don't get me wrong, I think Kelly could most definitely have a hit without the help of a big name Country artist Carrie and Kelly on that track would be awesome! My only fear if that ever happened would be that since it's on Country radio Carrie would get more credit or recognition than Kelly. I'm not sure if that would happen, but I would hate it if it did She could though do TSWR what she did with "Beautiful Disaster"- and record a live version (making it more country) and then have it on her next album, a live version could still go out as a single That would be a good idea too! Release "Breaking Your Own Heart" as a single towards the end of this era, do a live Country version (maybe a live solo Country one?) on the next album and then release it when "Breaking Your Own Heart" dies down... RCA should come read these boards sometime. We have TONS of marketing strategies! --------------------
