True, we don't have Boxing Day. But, because Christmas fell on a Sunday, this is the "day off" for a lot of people - post office, courts, banks are closed.
Next weekend is weird. My office is closed on Friday the 30th "for New Years Eve", but will be open on January 2nd. However, courts, banks and post office will be closed for the New Year's Day "day off". I just received an email about local government re-organization, swearing in of the newly elected and luncheon on January 2nd, when they assume that there's a holiday involved. --------------------

Nope, there really is no US observation of Boxing Day. Although that will probably change if the retailers ever figure out how to commercialize it! All our sales are just called After Christmas sales or Clearance sales. No mention of Boxing Day.

I hadn't heard of boxing day before. I work at a college and while the students are on Christmas break our office was open with a skeleton staff including me today.
