Danny Gokey – Truck Driver
For singer Danny Gokey, truck driving is second nature. He quickly worked his way up the ranks from warehouse floor to certified CDL driver. Danny worked as a trucker by to support his family but never gave up on his dream to achieve music success. His co-worker for the day, Hoppy is in his dream job, driving the big trucks. Hoppy puts Danny through his paces on the delivery route, and we see if driving a truck is like riding a bicycle … only with 18 wheels and a couple of tons.

This was pretty interesting. Danny seemed to know what to do, he hasn't forgotten that much, and he seemed pretty confident. Hoppy seems like a really nice guy (he doesn't look 68!) and he and Danny had a good rapport. It was cool to see Danny working a regular job and driving a big rig!
It doesn't look all that easy! I'd be scared to death to drive one of those things.

I think he should have been credited as a truck driver on Idol instead of a church music director (which wasn't his main job anyway). I think if he had, he would have taken a lot less heat and been less controversial--and I think more people would have been able to relate to the "blue collar guy" than to the "church guy," but I guess Michael Sarver already filled their blue-collar spot for that season. Gotta love Idol for the way they cast the contestants to fill a certain slot.
