Pia Toscano Dishes on Her Upcoming Album about 7 hours ago by Sam Lansky Pia Toscano hits the red carpet at the Teen Vogue Haute Spot on September 8, 2011 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City. Pia Toscano has had quite a year: After being an early favorite to win American Idol, she was voted off early in the competition in a shocking upset. But she rebounded quickly, commanding six-figure fees for gigs and signing with Interscope Records to release her single, “This Time.” Pia took the stage at the Teen Vogue Haute Spot during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, where guests snacked on mini-cupcakes and took in some of the upcoming season’s hottest trends, while Pia belted out a pitch-perfect rendition of “This Time.” After the performance, she spoke exclusively to Wetpaint Entertainment about her forthcoming album, how Idol changed her life, and her friendship with Dancing With the Stars cutie Mark Ballas. “American Idol was so amazing,” Pia exclaimed. “It’s basically been a crash course in the music industry — it catapults your career and opens so many doors. Just being with 10 contestants that love to do what I love to do — I mean, we’ve bonded so much. We’re on tour now, and I’m upset that it’s ending.” But once the tour closes, it’s straight back to work: “As soon as I get off tour, I’ll finish the album,” she says. “November, the album will be released. We’re about 8 or 9 songs in right now.” In addition to mega-production team Rock Mafia, Pia has been in the studio with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, famed for his work with Lady GaGa and Mariah Carey, as well as Harvey Mason, Jr., who worked with fellow Idol alums Jordin Sparks and Jennifer Hudson. “I have a wonderful track called ‘Counterfeit’ with Rock Mafia. That’s definitely one I’m excited about,” she says. Second single, perhaps? And as for those rumors of romance with Dancing With the Stars pro dancer Mark Ballas? “It’s just a friendship!” Pia laughs. “He’s such a dear friend to me, and I love him to death. He’s doing great things for himself.” But Pia didn’t let us leave without telling us how much she loves Wetpaint Entertainment. “I’m always on your site!” she gushed. “I love Wetpaint!” Funny thing, Pia — the feeling’s mutual!
