Since Jeff has been getting back into the swing of things with solo shows, I thought I'd start a thread. Any other fans?

Whoa, totally missed this thread. I love NHM. Didn't know he was getting back into it. That's great news.

^Yeah, I wish he'd play some dates closer to me. And if not, at least play some better, well known venues. The closest he's playing to me is 3 hours away. And it's at some church that I've read has no air conditioning and a really bad sound system.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Maybe it's his way of playing and still staying out of the spotlight so to say. I was thinking about going, but the bad venue, distance, and sketchy area it's in made me decide not to. I'm probably going to end up regretting it. Who knows if he's going to keep playing shows or if he stops after this tour?

I just know "In the Aeroplane over the Sea." What one album would you recommend?

And it's at some church that I've read has no air conditioning and a really bad sound system. I abhor shows in churches. A lot of artists like playing them for their acoustics, and I guess it's a sombre atmosphere that works for the right kind of music (Low recorded their most recent album in a church). Still, uncomfortable seating, no drinks, cramped... no thanks. -------------------- John le Carré's conduct in your pages is like nothing so much as that of a man who, having relieved himself in his own hat, makes haste to clamp the brimming chapeau on his head.

I just know "In the Aeroplane over the Sea." What one album would you recommend? "In The Aeroplane Over the Sea" is their classic album and their best one, so I'd definitely check that one out first. It's also a little bit more accessible than "On Avery Island." Although that's not saying much, since it took me a while to get into Aeroplane also. I remember listening to it for the first time and thinking, "WTF is this?" The eclectic instrumentals. Stream of consciousness lyrics that don't make sense, yet somehow form this beautiful collage of imagery. And that weird voice...so fractured and honest. His voice is definitely either love or hate. There's no in between. I had never heard a record quite like it. I think the song, "Oh Comely" best symbolizes what I'm talking about. "On Avery Island" is great too though. So underrated. Aeroplane gets so much of the credit that people tend to ignore Avery Island, which is a shame. I abhor shows in churches. A lot of artists like playing them for their acoustics, and I guess it's a sombre atmosphere that works for the right kind of music (Low recorded their most recent album in a church). Still, uncomfortable seating, no drinks, cramped... no thanks. True. I think the church does actually work well with NMH's music considering the religious themes in some of their songs. I can totally hear him singing, "I love you Jesus Christ" in a church One of my favorite lines of theirs: "God is a place you will wait for the rest of your life." -------------------- ![]() And you never knew why you felt so good. I agree that Aeroplane is probably a better album to start with, but they're both great. So unlike anything else I've ever heard. It's just something about the whole mood his music creates overall... I don't know how to describe it. King of Carrot Flowers, part 1...

^Wow. I don't know which I find weirder. That Neutral Milk Hotel was referenced on a show. Or that the one rock star she wanted to sleep with was Jeff
