I just had to make a new topic for this. Some people on this site know me as a really down the middle Republican, but this woman is too extreme for me I believe. Yeah, I supported Palin, but Bachman IMO is way more extreme and it's scary. The way she talks and the way she is overall is too serious. I honestly believe that if it came down to Michele and Obama in the final vote I'd either not vote, or vote for Obama...

Lastly and least important, at least Sarah was charming, cute, and dare I say it likable. fear.gif Unless Bachmann cuts it out I don't think I could ever support her. She is very good at what she does though, and I believe she is a threat for the nomination.

Sarah needs to enter this race and shut her ass down already...

Well I'm glad that you have seen the light (at least a little tongue.gif ) but honestly I think you should re-consider your beliefs/views because you don't seem like a republican to me. I know I don't know you personally or anything, but I just feel like you're probably more liberal on a lot of issues than you realize. grin.gif

And Sarah Palin is completely unqualified to be considered for anything more than a wack-job. tongue.gif She totally came out of nowhere for the simple reason that the republicans wanted a WOMAN because the democrats had Hilary Clinton. flowers.gif They obviously has to settle with Sarah Palin. thumbdown.gif That woman, I swear, is just as insane and ridiculous as Michele Bachman deep down inside. flowers.gif

Views are views, no matter how vocal you are about them. wink.gif

Um, Palin is mean, and a thousand times meaner than Michele. That's one reason why Palin is so incredibly hard to stomach, and it's what turns me off more than any lack of intelligence or anything else. I honestly don't know how anyone could support her type of behavior. I could fill this thread with a billion examples, but it's not worth it.

I don't know why you have to support either one of them. ermm.gif

To be honest, Steven, it seems like what's drawing you to Michele and Sarah is simply their celebrity. katharinekatkat is right in that you don't even strike me as a conservative.

I could try to do that, and I might be a bit liberal on some issues, but some issues I'm really hard headed on. I'm still Pro-Life and such. I just don't think I'm a conservative. unsure.gif I guess my political identity is still developing.

IDK Michelle just scares me for some reason.. I have no idea what it is, but she makes me nervous. I don't think the US has ever had a candidate taken as seriously as Michelle.

You're right, I'm not a conservative. I'm a Moderate, aka the black sheep in the side of the Republican party. It might have been Sarah's celebrity status that drew me to her, but as you know I am pro-life, and I stick to that. I think that's what really brought me towards Palin.

Steven, being pro-life doesn't make you a conservative as far as I'm concerned. I think you can be "pro-life" and still have very democratic beliefs - likewise I believe you can be pro-choice and still have very conservative beliefs. I hate that abortion always is put on a partisan plane and I don't think that it's really accurate.

I always think it's wise to vote on the greater issues you support that are going to have a greater affect on your life. Like, worrying about the living, breathing population, and what's' affecting them day to day, from the economy, unemployment, education, health care - and civil rights issues like gay marriage and gay adoption and your opinions on those, whether positive or negative (obviously yours are positive).

I believe abortion goes so far down the chain in terms of importance (likewise, issues on the death penalty and so forth)... I mean honestly, HONESTLY, whether you're pro-choice or pro-life, abortion is here to stay. Your vote should be about creating better programs and better adoption processes to prevent the abortions from happening in the first place, not essentially supporting those who attack helpless, desperate women outside of abortion clinics who have arrived at the belief that it's their only choice. tongue.gif It's really the only way you're going to see a tremendous reduction in them. And you know what? You're going to get 100x the support from people who also believe in that then you are of people who simply want it banned, because it's something both pro-choicers and pro-lifers can get behind. Because in the end, banning abortion isn't an end to a problem - people will find loopholes, you'll get more garbage can babies, etc. But if you can nab it at the root of it... so much better, so much more effective.

So yeah I mean when you go to vote... what else makes you want to vote Palin? It ain't going to be her views on gay marriage, that's for sure. I believe you probably are a moderate but I don't think voting for Palin is going to represent that demographic. tongue.gif I'm pretty sure there is a much better leader for the Republican party that will align more accurately with your political feelings. yes.gif I mean Megan McCain has proven to me that there are intelligent life forms in that party haha.gif

You're right, I'm not a conservative. I'm a Moderate

That's exactly my point. If you're voting based on issues and policy, Palin and Bachmann would be the last people you'd vote for in the Republican party. They are the most far right-wingers (and Palin's right-wingness is exactly why so many support her, and choose to ignore all of her glaring faults...they feel she is the most conservative). They would not be representing your views if you're a moderate.

Btw, though, Palin is shrewd and slick, and I'd almost bet money that she'll try to appear as a moderate if she actually runs. She will start dancing away from the more hard-right stuff. But make no mistake, her record and intentions are clear.

Although, her main claim to fame is doing something so socialistic (redistributing money from the Alaskan oil companies) that I don't know how conservatives support her with a straight face. But whatev.

Yep.

Also, Republicans control the house, and I think will end up controlling the Senate in 2012. Imagine if they have someone win the Presidency in 2012 too? They'll have total control, and all the nutty right-wingers will have a field day.

Or support programs that help children in need, so that women won't feel like they'll be left in the dust if they do decide to have the baby. Don't understand the point of banning abortion, but then doing absolutely nothing once the child is actually here. ermm.gif That's the Republican modus operati. Cutting Head Start, community centers, etc., etc. We care about the fetus...until it's actually here, then we don't give a...! Where's the consistency and logic in that? I'd respect pro-lifers if they were at least consistently pro-life, and cared about the children once they were here. The Republican party, always, always, cuts funding like that off first. So why force kids to be born into those type of situations? What do you think happens to them?

I'd like to add in a slightly related but off-topic point about the conservative side of things.... they "claim" to be better at job creation and wanting to improve the economy while reducing debt but... oh wait! In order to balance the budget here in Canada, the conservatives have decided to cut jobs, starting with 300 in the public sector (a lot of analysts and so forth that obviously would have been university educated and that the government could actually you know, listen to if they weren't so into themselves). rolleyes.gif

Yeah, because cutting jobs some how is going to improve the unemployment rate. rolleyes.gif

They also forced Canada Post workers back to work (after a strike lasting a few weeks) by creating their contract for them and the salary raise was less than Canada Post was offering it's workers and basically telling unionized workers that they don't respect them or the collective bargaining process.

My "told you so" talking has already started. giggle.gif

Oh, and the conservative mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, is snubbing all Gay Pride stuff this week - won't be in the parade like all his predecessors and didn't even bother to raise the flag today. rolleyes.gif So transparent, he's acting all sly like "my family always goes to the cottage" but whatever dude. You hate gays, at least admit it and move on.

I just think like, conservatives are all talk, and they do act on what they say - I believe that the feds will balance the budget when they say they will! And as my dad said, our former conservative Premier of Ontario, Mike Harris, never lied.... but his moniker was "Mike the Knife" for a reason. giggle.gif But my problem with them is that they'll find a way to just totally screw you in the end. pinch.gif Happens every time. Makes me sooo nervous for our provincial election this year 'cause our conservative leader Tim Hudak is riding high in the polls right now and I'm just afraid of what he'll do (although all our Liberal leader has done is tax us for the last 8 years and make our hydro bills go up, soo.....). 'Cause they're notorious for effing with health care and education and it makes me queasy.

I really hope for the best for you guys and that your Republican candidate isn't a backstabbing douche/bitch.... 'cause even though it can only help Obama's cause, it'd be scary if they got in. bloated.gif

They might actually work together, as Obama would have nothing to lose in his second term. Bill Clinton and the Republican house and Senate worked together. Though, yes, they wouldn't allow Obama to go forward on social issues, most likely. Which sucks. But it's certainly better than Republicans being in control of all three, and them moving forward [i.e. moving back] on social issues.

lol, which is why I always say who cares if a Republican appears moderate on social issues. They will all do the same economically. None of it is acceptable, or should be acceptable unless you're rich.

I almost rather prefer someone who's gross on social issues, because that way they are more clearly unacceptable to normal people. It's the slick so-called "moderates" who pose the biggest threat.

What's wrong with being conservative, Steven? giggle.gif

But I agree. Bachman is way too extreme for me. cold.gif

Nothing if you're not bothering other people. tongue.gif I think being too conservative, or too liberal are both equally dangerous. yes.gif If you try to force too many things on people then you make this country communist, and if you strip away too many freedoms you leave us open for weakness. yes.gif

I'm loving these videos I'm finding of her. Sorry guys, but Sarah wouldn't say some of these things. bloated.gif She has only been in the public eye for a short time and people are already noticing her slips. Especially with the "Are you a flake?" comment.

The thing is, if you're somewhere between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party and can go either way depending on the issue, you're probably a conservative by pretty much any other western democracy's standards. People are too easily confused into thinking Democrat=Liberal (much less pot-smoking commy). I realize many of the Democratic Party's supporters are clear liberals, but based on policy, the party itself is more of a centrist block.

An example of an actual liberal party would be the NDP in Canada, which, unlike the Democratic Party, takes an unambiguously left-wing stance on every issue, and I can't even imagine what would happen to the Democrats if they turned into that.

OY.

I'll believe CO2 is good when I hear it from a woman with a Bachelors of Art and a Masters of Law.
