Sad that you aren't getting to celebrate the holidays with your favorite “American Idol” winner at tonight’s Scotty McCreery concert at the DPAC?

Well, you’ll get a couple other chances to see him share the Christmas spirit on TV this week.

On Wednesday night, McCreery, the Garner native and N.C. State University freshman, will appear on NBC’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” holiday special at 8. The show, featuring the lighting of the giant Christmas tree in New York City, also will include Mariah Carey, now an “Idol” judge, and Cee Lo Green of rival singing competition “The Voice.”

Then on Saturday, McCreery headlines his own special, “Christmas with Scotty McCreery and Friends” on the Great American Country cable network. The show, taped in Nashville, includes fellow country acts Gloriana, Jana Kramer and Brett Eldridge. McCreery will perform “Let It Snow,” “Christmas In Heaven” and “Santa Claus Is Back In Town” from his best-selling CD, “Christmas with Scotty McCreery.”

The show will air at 11 p.m. Saturday, with repeat performances at 3 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, 9 p.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Dec. 5. In the Triangle, the GAC channel is available on Time Warner Cable (channel 461), DirecTV (channel 326), Dish Network (channel 167), and AT&T U-Verse 529

Did some checking and found that "Christmas at Rockefeller Center," NBC, was watched by 11.26 million people on TV in 2010 according to Nielsen ratings. So we can expect about 10-12 million people this year to see our Scotty on National TV!! w00t.gif w00t.gif - that should give CWSM a nice bump in sales!! smile.gif yes.gif yes.gif

Concert Premieres Exclusively on TNT Friday, Dec. 21, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT)

Legendary performer Diana Ross, Smash star Megan Hilty, chart-topping recording star Demi Lovato, The Voice favorite Chris Mann and American Idol winner Scotty McCreery are set to ring in the holiday season as they come together in the nation's capital for TNT's annual Christmas in Washington special. In addition, the concert will close with a special performance by "Gangnam Style" sensation PSY.

Hosted for the second year by Conan O'Brien, star of TBS's late-night series Conan, the star-studded concert will premiere Friday, Dec. 21, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT), exclusively on TNT.

Celebrating its 31st anniversary this year, Christmas in Washington is a holiday tradition benefiting the Children's National Medical Center. The concert is attended each year by the President and First Lady, as well as many other Washington VIPs. This will mark TNT's 14th year presenting Christmas in Washington. Christmas in Washington is set to be taped at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, Dec. 9.

Diana Ross' famed and remarkable career, spanning four decades, has resulted in major awards and accolades and music history milestones. She is a consummate performer, as well as one of the most iconic female singers of all time and one of the most prominent women in popular music history and in the pop culture of the 20th century. Diana Ross' international achievements were acknowledged by the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in 2007. The honor celebrated her lustrous career of excellence in music, film, television and theatre, as well as her cultural influences, humanitarian work and contributions to American culture. Career milestones include induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Grammys Life Time Achievement Award, the Songwriter's Hall of Fame Awards, The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences Hero Award, the NAACP Entertainer Award, Billboard Awards Female Entertainer of the Century and an International Lifetime Achievement nod on the World Music Awards. The icon is forever cemented in history with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The Guinness Book of Records jointly awarded her with its Lifetime Achievement Award and the title of "Most Successful Female Vocalist of All Time." Ross' phenomenal music career is marked by chart and commercial successes. She has amassed a total of 18 number-one singles. In the U.S. alone, to date, she has tallied 31 Top 10 singles and 14 Top 10 albums, selling over 100 million units around the globe. Beginning in the '60s, as leader singer of the world-renowned group The Supremes, Ross achieved the unprecedented feat of 12 number-one singles in the U.S., making them the most successful American group in history and rivaled only the by The Beatles for the position of the biggest hit group of that generation.

Megan Hilty stars in NBC's musical drama Smash as the seasoned triple-threat Ivy Lynn. She was recently signed to Sony Music in a partnership between Sony Masterworks and Columbia Records. Her new album will be released in early spring 2013. Hilty was most recently seen as Lorelei Lee in the Encores! production of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, for which she earned rave reviews. She provided Snow White's singing in the film Shrek the Third. Her voice has also been featured in Disney's Tinker Bell: Secret of the Wings, The Secret Life of Magic Gourd and Phineas & Ferb, as well as Glenn Martin DDS, American Dad, Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games and Robot & Monster. Hilty recently wrapped production on Summertime Entertainment's animated film Dorothy of Oz, slated for release in 2013. A native of Seattle, Hilty moved to New York City after graduating from the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, and quickly made her Broadway debut as Glinda in Wicked. She went on to perform the role in both the national tour and in Los Angeles. After receiving critical acclaim for her portrayal of Doralee Rhodes in Broadway's 9 to 5: The Musical, Hilty was honored with nominations for Lead Actress in a Musical at the Drama Desk Awards, Outer Critics Circle Awards, the Drama League Awards and L.A. Stage Alliance Ovation Awards. Hilty has previously performed with the Cincinnati Symphony and at Feinstein's in New York City. She can also be heard alongside Placido Domingo on the opera star's duet album. Hilty's television credits include guest-starring roles in The Closer, Melissa & Joey, Bones, Desperate Housewives, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Shark, Ugly Betty, Eli Stone and The Suite Life of Zach & Cody. Hilty's film credits include The Bitter Feast and the short "The Happiest Man Alive."

Demi Lovato has made quite a name for herself as a singer and actress with three studio albums, four movies, and numerous television series to her credit. The Dallas-bred 20-year-old started in show business at the age of 7 and rose quickly, becoming a bona fide star with credits like Barney & Friends and Sonny with a Chance by the time she was 15. She then cultivated a promising singing and acting career with standout roles in the Camp Rock movies and as the star of the 2009 film Princess Protection Program. In the late 2000s, while maintaining a rigorous TV and film shooting schedule, Lovato released two massively successful solo albums: Don't Forget (2008), which debuted at #2 on The Billboard 200, and Here We Go Again (2009), which bowed at #1. Her latest album, Unbroken, has spawned two platinum singles: "Skyscraper," which received an MTV VMA for Best Video with a Message, and her #1 smash hit, "Give Your Heart a Break." Lovato can also be seen alongside Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, and Britney Spears at the judges' table for season 2 of The X Factor.

Chris Mann captured the hearts of millions while drawing the praise of multi-platinum talents such as Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green on the hit NBC television series The Voice. Following one of Mann's many electrifying performances on the show, Aguilera told him, "I feel the heavens open up when you sing." America agreed and when the series ended, Mann had not one, but two songs on the iTunes Top 10 Pop Singles Chart. He's now going worldwide with his debut album, Roads, which entered Billboard's HeatSeekers Chart at #4 and its Classical Chart at #5. It also shot to #5 on the iTunes Pop Album Chart. Roads arrives via Faircraft/Republic, a new imprint headed up by multi-platinum producer and veteran A&R exec Ron Fair, who has worked with Mary J. Blige, Black Eyed Peas, Il Volo and Christina Aguilera, to name a few. Among Roads' many highlights is Mann's cover of the Damien Rice hit "The Blower's Daughter," which features a special guest appearance by Aguilera. The album also includes Mann's stunning rendition of "My Way," re-worked specifically for Mann by legendary songwriter Paul Anka. Influenced by Pavarotti, Robbie Williams and Frank Sinatra, Mann's blend of classically trained tenor and contemporary pop vocals is a sound that's rare in music today. Said Cee Lo, "He is by far one of the most incomparable vocalists I have ever heard." Mann also recorded an exclusive holiday album for Walmart entitled Home for Christmas, which hit #1 on their Best-Selling Albums Chart and entered Billboard's Classical Crossover Chart at #12.

Scotty McCreery became American Idol's youngest male winner in 2011, as well as the show's first country male winner. Since then, the Garner, N.C., native quickly emerged as country music's most successful new artists. McCreery's first studio album, Clear As Day, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and Top Country Albums charts, making him the youngest man in history to open at the top of the all-genre chart with a debut release. It also garnered the highest sales of any country solo album released last year, held the #1 spot on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart for six weeks and earned Platinum status in just 13 weeks. McCreery won New Artist of the Year at both the 2011 American Country Awards and the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards. He also won the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year for "The Trouble With Girls" at the 2012 CMT Music Awards. McCreery was ranked #1 on Billboard's list of Top New Country Artists for 2011 also earned the No. 4 spot on Billboard's 2012 List of the Top 21 Under 21. He spent most of 2012 opening for Brad Paisley's Virtual Reality Tour 2012. McCreery recently released Christmas With Scotty McCreery, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Seasonal Albums chart and remains one of this season's top holiday albums. He continues to perform and record while pursuing an undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University.

PSY, whose real name is Jai-Sang Park, is a Korean singer, songwriter and producer known for his energetic and flamboyant performances both on stage and in his music videos. This year, he became a global phenomenon with his hit single "Gangnam Style" and its enormously popular music video, which has received more than 800 million YouTube views and currently ranks as the most viewed YouTube video of all time. Before he became an international sensation, however, PSY spent the last 10 years building his career as one of South Korea's most beloved icons. PSY attended Berklee College of Music and jokingly takes pride in being a freshman for a decade. While living on the East coast, he developed a love of hip-hop and later incorporated the urban sound into his debut album, PSY from the PSYcho World! Both his first album and his sophomore release, Cheap 2, made PSY popular and controversial among younger fans. Although he later moved away from a focus on hip-hop, the influence remains throughout his subsequent releases, including his most recent studio album PSY 6, on which "Gangnam Style" is featured. A talented and prolific songwriter, PSY has written or co-written every song he has released. He has also penned successful songs for many popular artists in Korea. Most recently, PSY was asked to write the official fight song for the South Korean national team in the 2012 London Olympics. The song, entitled "Korea," showcases PSY's signature sound, accented by traditional Korean instruments and melodies. He brought the modern spirit of Korean people, culture and history to life in the accompanying music video, further igniting the world's interest in PSY.

Scotty McCreery Second Album Will Carry 'Stamp' of Approval

IPB Image

Scotty McCreery's debut album, Clear as Day, was released a little over a year ago, and the singer is already hard at work on his sophomore CD. Unlike with the first album, he plans to take more time to complete the upcoming project, so fans can find out who he really is as an artist.

"I'm actually trying to to put my own stamp out there, so people can see what I'm about," Scotty tells Billboard magazine. "The first album was a good representation of me, and I'm proud of it. But I think it was definitely rushed."

The 19-year-old released Clear as Day only six months after being crowned the Season 10 winner of "American Idol," which he admits was an arduous undertaking to complete. But while he may not have had as much input in his freshman CD as he would have liked, Scotty says he is still eternally grateful for the entire "Idol" experience.

"I embrace it," he says. "I think as an artist, it's important for me to grow and move on from that, to get focused on Nashville and the industry, but I would never shy away from where I came from or how I got here. I think it's cool."

Scotty also released his holiday album, Christmas With Scotty McCreery, last month, but reveals he had considered adding it to his already busy 2011 instead. "We had talked about doing this last year, when we released the first album," he explains. "It got put on the back burner, and [we] started talking about it again for this year. The label was behind it, I was behind it. It's my favorite time of the year and my favorite holiday, so it just seemed right. Doing it this early in my career also gives us some options. If I wanted to put out volume two or volume three ten years later, we could."

Scotty is starring in his own holiday special, "Christmas With Scotty McCreery & Friends," which will premiere this Saturday, Dec. 1, at 11:00 PM on GAC. He'll also appear on the "CMA Country Christmas" special, Thursday, Dec. 20, at 8:00 PM on ABC and the nationally-syndicated "10th Annual Holiday Christmas Celebration at the Grove" (check local listings).

Scotty McCreery’s Christmas Album Sells Big as Singer Preps for Busy Holiday

Who wouldn’t want to spend Christmas with Scotty McCreery? While there are plenty of fans who would like the opportunity, they’ll have to settle for hearing the star sing Christmas carols this holiday season.

The 19-year-old star will bring the best of his ‘Christmas With Scotty McCreery’ album — which is looking to be one of the best-selling country Christmas albums this year — to fans via various media outlets and television specials. The album has been certified gold by the RIAA, with almost 200,000 copies sold (500,000 shipped) in the month since its release.

McCreery will have to hold off on celebrating the album’s success for a little while, though. The ‘American Idol’ winner will be quite busy performing on various television shows and holiday specials, thanks to the hit album. Fortunately, the young star and his family have already had a chance to get an early jump on celebrating the festive holiday, starting as far back as October!

In addition to being part of NBC’s 15th Annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center, which airs Wednesday, McCreery will also have his own holiday special, ‘Christmas With Scotty McCreery and Friends,’ which debuts on GAC on December 1.

But that is just the start of his hectic television schedule which runs through the month of December. McCreery will also make an appearance on the 10th Annual ‘Hollywood Christmas Celebration at the Grove,’ a nationally syndicated TV special. To round it all out, McCreery will also be part of the ‘CMA Country Christmas’ special, which airs Thursday, December 20 at 9PM ET on ABC.

Fans can also catch McCreery as a presenter on the American Country Awards on Dec. 10 on FOX, as well as his two appearances on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America,’ which are slated for December 11 and December 24.

And somehow, McCreery is still busy chipping away at his highly-anticipated sophomore album. When we spoke with him back in June, he revealed his plan to “change it up a little bit” with the new material.

Can't wait for the sophmore CD - still wish it was being released late in the first quarter though rather than in the second quarter where he'll be competing with the new AI as well as everyone's "summer" stuff. Ah well, hopefully he'll release two or better yet three singles that radio will play before it is released - that would help!

This is from "hellomusicgirl" at MJs:

"Latina Magazine has released their "50 Brightest Latino Stars Under 25" list for 2012 and there are several Idol and blog-related stars included:

Demi Lovato (XF)
Naya Rivera (Glee)
Jessica Sanchez (AI)
David Archuleta (AI)
Scotty McCreery (AI)
Samuel Larsen (Glee/Glee Project)
Stefano Langone (AI)

http://www.latina.com/entertainment/50-bri...-stars-under-25"

There's a slide show of the stars. Scotty is slide #15:

SLIDE 15 OF 50
Scotty McCreery, 19

The half-Puerto Rican singer ran straight to the recording booth after being crowned the winner of American Idol’s tenth season. He released Clear as Day just six months after he left the competition, and is already preparing to drop his sophomore album. In addition, he’s making sure fans get into the Christmas spirit with his release of Christmas With Scotty McCreery last month, which will soon be aired into a holiday special for ABC titled, “Christmas With Scotty McCreery & Friends.”

Here's a small review of Scotty's album:

"Christmas With Scotty McCreery," Scotty McCreery (Mercury)

Teenage "American Idol"-winner Scotty McCreery isn't going for cute here. His baritone is solid and his delivery is on target and straightforward. It's a nice surprise.

Latina list - ooops, Scotty is not half Puerto Rican, he's 1/4 quarter. But it's really not that important.

Loved the Scotty blurb from the Knoxville publication...just tellin' the truth.

This is from "hellomusicgirl" at MJs:

"Latina Magazine has released their "50 Brightest Latino Stars Under 25" list for 2012 and there are several Idol and blog-related stars included:

Demi Lovato (XF)
Naya Rivera (Glee)
Jessica Sanchez (AI)
David Archuleta (AI)
Scotty McCreery (AI)
Samuel Larsen (Glee/Glee Project)
Stefano Langone (AI)

Wish that holiday special was on ABC!

Don't think so. I thought albums had to be at least $3.99 to count as sales.

Didn't Lady Gaga's album sell for 99cents and it was counted as sales? I kind of remember that.
but I don't think these will be since they're free. Oh well. Great exposure.

‘AI’ champs usher in the holiday season with radio-ready releases
December 1, 2012 | 1:12 am

American Idols Scotty McCreery and Phillip Phillips usher in the Yuletide season with the No. 4 bows of “Christmas with Scotty McCreery” and “The World from the Side of the Moon,” Phillips’ first studio album, on Billboard 200. Both discs are notable not only for their singers’ genre-boosting appeal, but also for their track listings’ unbridled optimism and radio-ready gloss.

The Season 10 champ is busy juggling college (he goes to North Carolina State University) and a red-hot career as a country singer. His 11-track holiday set is instantly appealing because his easygoing baritone captures the warmth and feisty lilt of “Let It Snow,” “Jingle Bells,” and the fiddle-and-piano-fueled “Holly Jolly Christmas.”

McCreery goes beyond the surface in “Mary Did You Know?” as he waxes philosophical about the Blessed Virgin Mary’s ultimate sacrifice: “Did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water?/ Did you know that when you kissed your little baby, you kissed the face of God?”

Positive vibe characterizes the original tunes in his repertoire: The heart-warming “Christmas in Heaven” reveals how the death of a loved one has made him see things in a different light, while “Christmas Comin’ Round Again” encourages people to forget about their differences—and to “let go and let love.”

The album ends on a high note when McCreery puts a bluesy rock spin on the carol, “Santa Claus Is Back In Town”—in which the 19-year-old crooner channels a belting and growling Elvis Presley!

Deluxe edition

In the deluxe edition of Phillip Phillips’ solo studio debut, “The World from the Side of the Moon,” you only need to listen to his reworked covers of Chris Isaak’s Lynchian 1989 ballad, “Wicked Game,” and Michael Jackson’s campy pop classic, “Thriller,” to realize that there’s more to Season 11’s big winner than his appealing gravelly voice and boy-next-door countenance.

His enthusiastic renditions recall the alternative-rock smolder of Dave Matthews—but, when Phillips launches into his anthemic arena dazzlers, like the folksy “Gone, Gone, Gone,” the rousing “Can’t Go Wrong,” and his “coronation” song on “American Idol,” “Home,” you know that the 22-year-old singer-songwriter is his own man!

Yes, he can’t hold a candle to the musical chops and show-stopping sizzle of Jessica Sanchez, his runnerup, but his versatility (the idiosyncratic “Man on the Moon,” the irresistible “Get Up Get Down,” and the hit-bound “Where We Came From”) and the diversity of his musical influences (listen to the folksy tweaks of “A Fool’s Dance” and the jazzy coda of “Drive Me”) make him perpetually interesting and allow his sound to continually evolve.
