I thought Trace and Kristin were terrible last year...especially her. I thought Kristen was terrible. But IMO Trace isn't the best host either. He's good, but I prefer Brad & Blake. He is better than Toby at hosting. Toby's terrible. -------------------- |

I thought Trace and Kristin were terrible last year...especially her. They were terrible! What were the ACA's thinking? I hope they don't let Kristen perform again. Her performance made my ears and eyes bleed at the same time and I didn't even know that was possible! -------------------- |

I did some research on the "Now That's What I Call Country" and have found they have had such productions beginning in 2008. This surprised me because the article seemed like they were just getting into the Country music. They have been making these in a variety of genres for decades.
They have the first one from country music Aug 26, 2008 and Carrie, Brad and Josh are on it. Volume two came out Aug 25, 2009 and Carrie and Josh were on it. On Oct. 6, 2009 a 2 cd collection of Country Christmas came out and Brad and Josh were included. "Now" had done 4 Christmas collections before this but none were country. June 15, 2010 had Carrie on it. A volume 3 came out with Josh and Brad on it in Sept. 14, 2010. Volume 4 came out June 14, 2011 with Carrie on it. Jan. 24, 2012 "That's What I Call Country Ballads" came out. I thought these were all great with a variety of super artists until volume 5 came out June 12, 2012 and "Red Solo Cup" by Toby Keith, "Drink in my Hand" by Eric Church, and "Country must be Country Wide" by Brantley were on it. It did have Brad on there too with "All Your Life". I am so happy Scotty is on the next one. It will definitely get him heard by a new audience! "Now" is also releasing a "That's What I Call Today's Christmas" on Sept. 25, 2012. This is not necessarily country. It appears that UGM/Interscope is involved with Sony and others in the production of these compilations. -------------------- |

No, no, no. They are awful as hosts. Like everybody said especially Kristin.
The only good thing about it is that Trace was having a "bromance" with Scotty for a while. So maybe he will get special attention -------------------- |

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2012 Scotty McCreery to Headline National Championship Game Along with baseball, folks usually mention apple pie, but country music fits right in there with the list of things, too. Fortunately, for those who love baseball and country music, there is an upcoming event that is tailor-made. Apple pie fans may have to go to one of Durham's fine restaurants to satisfy their craving, however. The Durham Bulls today announce Scotty McCreery will headline festivities at the 2012 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game at the DBAP on Tuesday, September 18. The country music superstar will throw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch and perform “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the 7th Inning Stretch. McCreery, a native of Garner, NC, was crowned the winner of the tenth season of American Idol in 2011. He has since become one of country music’s brightest young stars, selling over a million copies of his debut album Clear as Day. Now enrolled at North Carolina State University, McCreery is an avid baseball fan, having played on the Garner High School baseball team. The 2012 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game is a one-game, winner-take-all showdown between the champions of the International and Pacific Coast Leagues. Durham is the first International League city to host Minor League Baseball’s premier event, which will be nationally televised on NBC Sports Network. Tickets for the 2012 Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on September 18th are available online, by phone at 919.956.BULL, or in person at the DBAP ticket office. Durham is where great things happen. Learn more about it online. Posted by Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau at 11:54 AM -------------------- |

Bay City Labadie Pig Gig hits million dollar fundraising goal
Published: Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 6:00 PM BAY CITY, MI — Labadie Pig Gig organizers announced reaching a milestone Wednesday evening: The event has raised more than $1 million for charity during its 20-year run. Although the future of rib-and-concert event remains uncertain, its 20th annual run was one of the most successful to date. Pig Gig promoter Wendy Dore said the festival generated $70,000 this year for 18 area charities. “I'm very happy about that,” Dore said. “It is a combination of direct donation of $50,000 (from Pig Gig) and about $20,000 raised during the Celebrity Rib Cook Off.” The total amount raised for charity in the 20 years of Pig Gig now stands at $1,025,000, Dore said. Dore credits this year's high attendance for reaching the $1 million goal – especially the concert by American Idol winner Scotty McCreery, which brought 15,000 people into the event at Veterans Memorial Park on Aug. 4. “We knew we had done well, especially on Saturday night. That was amazing," Dore said. “With higher attendance and a larger group of people, it came with a larger cost obviously,” she said. “It did show that Bay City was supportive of coming to a larger concert and supporting a little bit larger ticket price for good quality entertainment.” Attendance was good for Diamond Rio's Sunday night concert as well, which surprised Dore. “Ticket sales didn't show that we hit a home run, but a lot of people showed up at the gate," she said. Charities participating in Pig Gig that will share the $70,000 include The Boys & Girls Clubs of The Great Lakes Bay Region, Bay County Vietnam Veterans Monument Committee, Cory Place, Bay Area Special Olympics, The Literacy Council of Bay County, The Johnny Burke Children’s Foundation, The CAN Council of the Great Lakes Bay Region, Studio 23, Santa House, The Tri-City Ice Hawks Hockey Association, Crime Stoppers, D-Street Foundation, The Bay County Womens’ Center, Boy Scout Troop 111, The Girl Scouts, The Toni & Trish House and The HR Doud Naval Sea Cadets. In addition, The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Great Lakes Bay Region, The Women’s Center, The CAN Council of the Great Lakes Bay Region and the Literacy Council of Bay County will receive an extra check tonight from Mike Dewey, executive director of the United Way of Bay County. Dow Chemical’s Co.'s “Challenge Grant” program is matching the donated amount to those United Way affiliated organizations up to $25,000. “It's just something we found out about,” said Dore. “The timing is perfect.” The fundraising this year is in sharp contrast to the event's first year, when Pig Gig raised about $1,500. “It came from humble beginnings,” she said. “It was really pretty small. Twenty years ago, the idea of $1 million is the equivalent of me thinking I would make it to Jupiter. As time went on and we started making more and more, it became an attainable goal.” Dore plans to step down from her leadership role in organizing Pig Gig. As for the gig going on, she says a few people have expressed an interest in assuming the responsibility, but nothing is finalized. “I'm hoping someone will take it over,” she said. “I would be involved to consult and help out. I would hate to see the event go away.” As she steps down, Dore reflects on 20 years of good memories. “My Uncle, Virgil (Beeckman), he just passed away,” she said. “He always helped me every year. He would be my command center, answer phones, take care of the people. Volunteers would come in with little kids. He almost had a day care. There would be kids sleeping in his lap. He was there 13 of the 20 years. He was a staple of Pig Gig and I miss him.” Dore also has fond memories of the late Don “Hutch” Hutchins, former executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs. “He was instrumental in me starting this event,” she said. Dore added that it is the family feeling Pig Gig generated each year, and her meeting with Toby Keith, she'll remember most. “It became a family reunion for so many people getting together once a year,” she said. “The general public would see friends they would see once a year. For me, seeing the rib competitors. Once thing I'm going to miss is the great people.” One of those is Billy Bones, who was also instrumental in getting the Labadie Pig Gig off the ground. “He brought in all the national competitors over the years,” Dore said. “It's nice we have a living legend in our Great Lakes Bay Region.” -------------------- |

Without Scotty, I'd say the event would have lost money...maybe they didn't hit a home run this year, but without him they probably would have hit a pop-up to the infield.

Just found a great article on The Boot titled "Musical Smartypants: 10 country singers who learned before they earned." Guess who is listed first? Our boy Scotty. Nice article and great picture (I did not paste the entire article).
www.theboot.com Stay in school!" Kids may roll their eyes at that oft-heard phrase, as they argue with their parents that some of the wealthiest celebrities on the planet dropped out of school to start their careers early. But in the notoriously volatile entertainment business, no one can argue with having an education to fall back on. As summer comes to a close and school doors open, The Boot pays tribute to the country stars who took their reading, writing and arithmetic seriously. Scotty McCreery North Carolina State University, Class of 2016 Scotty did not let "American Idol" curb his education. A high school junior during his winning run on the show, the North Carolina native kept his grades up -- and his spot on the varsity baseball team. A few months in to his skyrocketing country career, he graduated from Garner Magnet High School (a mere hours after winning a CMT Award!). Just a few days after his debut album, Clear as Day, was certified platinum, Scotty was accepted to North Carolina State University. "At 18 years old, I have a lot of learning to do and I don't know if I'm ready to make the move from home yet," he tells The Boot of his decision to stay in his home state for college. "Give me a couple more years and I'll be more mature and I'll know more about the business." -------------------- |

This is incredible! A Charlotte WBTV news reporter ran into Scotty and his family at a gas station while he was shooting a story about gas prices! You gotta read this! This is the BEST thing ever written about him in Charlotte! I love it!
http://www.wbtv.com/story/19431132/reporte...scotty-mccreery Reporter Notebook: Meeting Scotty McCreery Posted: Aug 31, 2012 4:16 PM EST Updated: Aug 31, 2012 4:28 PM EST By David Whisenant - bio | email What a nice kid! I can say that since I'm twice as old as he is. I'm talking about Scottie McCreery. Scotty is a freshman at North Carolina State University, but you probably know him as the winner of season 10 of the American Idol. He has also recorded the platinum album "Clear As Day," featuring the hit songs "I Love You This Big," and "The Trouble With Girls." And today when I encountered him, he was just a young man traveling with his family to watch the Wolfpack play football this weekend. I was doing a story on gas prices, and for the story I went to the rest area off I-85 in Concord. My idea was to interview drivers and ask them where they had last filled up and how much they paid per gallon. Drivers from Virginia said they paid around $3.60, those from eastern North Carolina were up to $3.75 or so. I had talked to about a dozen drivers and passengers from all over the place and I was just about ready to leave. Then I saw a car with two NC State flags pull in at the lower end of the driveway. I decided to run and talk to one more driver. I saw a very tall man and his wife starting to get out of the car, and I noticed what appeared to be a young man and a young girl in the back. Both were busy on their phones. The man had a somewhat puzzled look as I approached, but when I told him who I was and what I was doing, he started smiling, and agreed to a short interview. I asked him about gas prices. He told me he and his family were on the way to Atlanta for the game, and that it had cost him about $50 to fill up his rented Toyota. When I was finished we made a little friendly small talk and I wished them safe travel. But then the man's wife said something unusual. "You don't know who we are, do you?" I looked at them both, glanced in the car, and innocently asked if they were from my hometown of Salisbury. They laughed and said no. Then she said "We're the McCreery's." I tried to think of everyone I know named McCreery, and I couldn't come up with a single one. "Scotty, Scotty McCreery." "Oh yeah!" I blurted. Now it all made sense. Scotty was still on the phone, actually doing a live radio interview. I talked with his mom for a while about a number of things, including their trip, their church life in Garner, NC, and all the upcoming concerts and appearances. I also asked her if she thought he would mind popping out of the car for a quick interview. She thought it would be fun, and as soon as he finished the radio interview, Scotty jumped out of the backseat and stuck out his hand to say hello. He was wearing a red, NC State visor, and had a large cross on a chain around his neck. We talked for just a few minutes; I knew his family wanted to get going. Scotty was unfailingly polite and genial. "Yeah, you just kind of walked up and I was in the car," MCCreery. He said he was excited about going to the game with his family, and wasn't too concerned about the gas prices. "Yeah this is a family trip so I'm not having to fork out the money for the road trip for the gas. It'll be good, it's worth it." And with that I thanked him, he climbed back in the car and the McCreery's were on their way. For me it was a chance encounter, but one that left a good impression of a very nice and talented young man. Best of luck to you Scotty! -------------------- |
