Judas Priests Rob Halford talks about ADAM!! very positive. Scroll to near the bottom, i've highlighted in purple the parts about Adam
Q&A with Rob Halford: Heavy metal star talks about being openly gay, his new CD and his San Diego gig BIANCA WAXLAX – SDGLN CORRESPONDENT December 14th, 2010 Share 7 ENLARGE Photo credit: stageshottz.com Rob Halford Heavy metal legend Rob Halford and his band Halford IV will appear with Warbringer, Philm & Cage at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, at 4th and B, 345 B St. in San Diego. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are priced from $41.40 to $67.30 via Ticketmaster.com. SAN DIEGO -- Very few vocalists in the world of heavy metal have been as influential and as epic as Rob Halford. With his legendary band Judas Priest, Halford produced almost 20 albums and won the Grammy Award in 2010. His voice is unparalleled in his field and can reach four octaves. The mind-blowing front man with considerable stage magnetism has been going strong for 30 years. Halford, a longtime San Diego resident, has been openly gay for the past 12 years. In this Q&A with San Diego Gay & Lesbian News, Halford talks about being out in the gay community, offers a glimpse into his experiences with “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll,” shares heart-felt wisdom with other gay artists such as Adam Lambert, and previews his new CD and upcoming performance in San Diego. SDGLN: So, you are a local to San Diego, right? HALFORD: Yeah, I have been in the San Diego area for about 12 years or so now. SDGLN: Do you enjoy it here? HALFORD: Yeah, I love it very much. I’m in the Balboa Park area, so Hillcrest is my neighborhood. It has been for a long, long time. With the upcoming show at the 4th and B happening soon, it’s going to be something really exciting to do. SDGLN: You came out as gay in 1998 on MTV. How have things changed since then? HALFORD: Well, musically they have not changed at all. On a personal level it has changed dramatically. It’s like when any of us step out of that closet and we set ourselves free there is a tremendous feeling of elation. You can be who you are without having to hide, without having to lie, and it makes you stronger, and more complete as a person. That’s the main thing that I was able to experience when I made the announcement, and from that point on my life, my personal life which has always been kind of a public life anyway was finally revealed, and it was a great lot of pressure lifting off of my back. It really was the best thing to do. It is the best thing for any of us to do if we find that we are able to step out and be who we are without having to be something that we are not. SDGLN: When you came out, you were working on music with your band at the time called Two. You had been working with Trent Reznor. I heard in an interview where someone stated that it was easier for you to come out in the industrial music scene as people were more accepting. Did you find it easier to come out in the industrial music scene as opposed to the metal scene? HALFORD: Well, that is an interesting question. I don’t personally think that the location that I was at musically would have made any great difference. I think that what I was probably trying to say was that because I was away from the main band that was filling my life, Judas Priest, because I was always protecting Judas Priest, protecting the music, protecting the fans, protecting everybody except myself. I wasn’t able to say and do the things that I wanted to do until I was away and having these other musical adventures. So, I guess regardless of where I was musically at that time. The fact that I said and did what I did on that day wasn’t really much of an issue musically. But, anyway I think it is fair to say that I would have been probably more difficult. I probably would have not made the announcement had I been in Judas Priest at that time. Second, because as I said when you become protective of everybody else, you don’t protect your own needs. So, things happen in life for a reason, and that was the case with my coming out at that time. There are areas of music that are more compassionate, more tolerant, more open, more accepting and more aware. What I think I have done is destroy the myth that heavy metal bands don’t have that capacity. It’s a different world now. Heavy metal now is a completely different world compared to heavy metal in 1980. The gay and lesbian world is very different now as it was in 1980. We have all grown to some extent. There is still a long way to go. There are still a lot of issues that need to be addressed, but I think slowly but surely our lives are getting better. SDGLN: Do you feel that your heterosexual fans received you well when you came out? HALFORD: The vast majority of them did, yes. Those that didn’t were the ones that have difficulty accepting people’s sexual orientation in general. I think I made some people confront issues they were not ready to deal with perhaps. SDGLN: Now some fans that completely idolized you had to come to terms with their metal role model and idol was a gay man. How do you feel this affected them? HALFORD: I think that it kind of demystifies this issue of masculinity. To say that if you are masculine you can’t be gay is ridiculous. Again, I can’t really say. That is a question you would have to ask my fans that felt this way. But, the vast majority of them were completely accepting of me, and it was tremendously powerful. SDGLN: Do you feel like the gay community received you well? Do you feel like you gained a larger fan base for Judas Priest, Halford, and the projects that you were working on? HALFORD: No, it didn’t change a bit. I am sure I picked up some gay fans due to my coming out. As far as anything changing dramatically, things stayed as they were. SDGLN: Being a legendary metal front man, when most people thing of metal and rock music they think, “sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.” How did this expectation or stereotype play out for you as a gay man? HALFORD: I had the drugs and the rock ‘n’ roll, but I was not having the sex. That is how it worked out for me. (laughs) SDGLN: Did you feel like you had any pressure, from groupies coming around, and did other men in the bands wonder why you weren’t hooking up? HALFORD: Everybody in the band knew I was a gay man, and everybody in my crew knew I was a gay man, and those were the people that I associated with on a working level. So, those questions never really arose. SDGLN: Now it seems to me that your rock ‘n’ roll style is very reminiscent of the leather community. Can you shed some light on that? HALFORD: Yeah, that is the irony, if you want to call it ironic, that there is a portion of the gay and lesbian community that lives that type of lifestyle, and I never was. I never was into that leather lifestyle. I just chose that kind of look because heavy metal for many, many years didn’t really have the visual connections and their power connected to the music. So, I just kind of experimented and felt that particular image was more sensible and worked. So, that is something that is only an assumption. So, what I am trying to say is first that is the irony, and it is also a little bit disrespectful to look at somebody like that and there is an assumption that “oh they must be gay.” Personally I think it is disrespectful, not from you, but from people who are stating it that way. I think that that is all about stereotyping. And what we try to do consistently in the gay community is break away the stereotypical imagery of how we are perceived to be by straight culture. So it’s kind of an irony tinged with stereotypical assumption. But there I was you know, and suddenly some straight people were saying, “We should have got that all along, because look at what he’s dressed like.” I think that is very insulting and very narrow-minded. But that is all just part of the equation, of who I am and what I do. SDGLN: I can see that because the whole development of the musical persona, take Alice Cooper, Ozzy or Marilyn Manson, they all have some kind of look to them, and it may not mean that they are any particular sexual orientation or anything like that, but this just might be how they express themselves from an artistic point of view. HALFORD: Exactly, and again you know that is just the public talk of persona that you have no control over. The only way you can control it is confront the comments. SDGLN: You mentioned that your “Made of Metal” album is your most personal release in your solo career. Why do you feel that way? HALFORD: It is just that I think it is important to have messages that talk about things that are important to you on a personal level, moral, and the observations that you make, and things that you see or experience in life. And I think that there is an opportunity for me in my solo career to do those things that would not be right to do in another place. So, when I talk about my sobriety and when I talk about my belief in things that are important to me, it’s something that I have never really done to a great extent until this moment. So, it has been a really interesting time and opportunity to go into that area for the first time. SDGLN: From a spiritual perspective, sober living perspective and from life experience, that is the kind of stuff that this album will get into. Are there any songs on the new album that you hold particularly dear to you? HALFORD: Every one of them. They are like my kids. (laughs) Every one of them is important to me. Even the kinds of fun and adventure songs like the “Matador” are very important to me because I am testing my boundaries as a musician. I am testing my ability as a writer, musically and as a lyricist, so every one of them is important to me. SDGLN: I noticed that you won the Grammy. Congratulations! How was that for you, because this was the fifth time that you were nominated and you won! Was it just exhilarating and exciting to win the Grammy? HALFORD: It was exciting to be there and on TV. I firstly, never dreamed that I would get one. It was exciting to be there live to receive it. Grammy’s are a very important, prestigious event, and to get something like that is a wonderful achievement. It is very inspiring and motivational. It makes you feel good for what you have been able to achieve. But, it is also something that you share with a lot of other people, especially your fans. So, it is a very remarkable night. I will always cherish that moment. SDGLN: Another thing I noticed is that you introduced Adam Lambert at the GLAAD Media Awards. Was that interesting for you to be there with other well-known artists who have come out as gay like yourself? HALFORD: It was fantastic. It really was fantastic. I think Adam is a sensational singer and performer and entertainer. He’s got a long, long life ahead of him in show business. It was a great feeling. We don’t know each other, but we know a little bit about each other as far as what we feel we have tried to do within the gay community. So, it was like on the red carpet, the old god meeting the new god. The paparazzi went completely crazy. We couldn’t see each other because of the flashbulbs going off. Again, it was very, very important. It was another spectacular night with a lot of meaning attached to it for me. SDGLN: Now there are other musicians that have come out, Elton John, George Michael, Adam Lambert. There is also a female metal singer, I don’t know if you have heard of her, of the band Otep. Her name is Otep Shamaya, and she is a lesbian metal singer. HALFORD: Yes, yes I am aware. I think it’s great. I think it is wonderful. Those of us that are gay and lesbian, bisexual and want the rest of the world to know are stepping forward and it means a lot. It really does. Yes, I have heard Otep; her music it is very unusual and original. SDGLN: What do you have to say to help inspire other artists that are gay and are unsure about coming out and how it may affect their lives and careers? HALFORD: To not be afraid. To try to have the strength and courage to step forward and let the world know who you are, because it is very self-empowering, and you will get a stronger and clearer vision of who you are and what you trying to be and do in the music world. SDGLN: Are you looking forward to your 4th and B show on Saturday, Dec. 18? ROB HALFORD: It’s going to be fantastic because I have a lot of friends there, a lot of my gay and lesbian friends there. I’ve got some friends from the military coming. I’ve got some police friends coming. It’s going to be a real mixed bag of society as a rock ‘n’ roll show should be. It’s going to be a really great night. I am just excited to do a local show. I will be able to walk home afterwards and sleep in my own bed instead of a hotel bed! http://sdgln.com/news/2010/12/14/qa-rob-ha...-gay-his-new-cd **** This post has been edited by islandgirljams: Dec 14th 2010, 3:20 PM -------------------- ![]() |

CNN ASIA PRESS RELEASE INTERVIEW WITH ADAM LAMBERT For Release: 10 December, 2010 Contact: Evonne Inn Tel: (852) 3128 3538 Fax: (852) 3128 3939 Email: evonne.inn@turner.com FORMER AMERICAN IDOL FINALIST ADAM LAMBERT ON CNN’s TALK ASIA Airtimes: Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Singapore and Taipei Wednesday, December 15 at 2030 Thursday, December 16 at 1230 Saturday, December 18 at 2230 Sunday, December 19 at 0330 & 1730 Monday, December 20 at 1100 Bangkok and Jakarta Wednesday, December 15 at 1930 Thursday, December 16 at 1130 Saturday, December 18 at 2130 Sunday, December 19 at 0230 & 1630 Monday, December 20 at 1000 It was just two years ago that the then 26-year old Adam Lambert stunned audiences on the TV talent show ‘American Idol' and won over famously hard-to-please judge Simon Cowell. Despite not winning the season eight title, the singer songwriter has since climbed singles charts around the world and sold more than three-quarters of a million copies of his debut album "For Your Entertainment". This week on TALK ASIA, CNN's Anjali Rao sits down with Lambert during his first world concert tour to talk about his chart success, the headline grabbing moment when he publicly acknowledged he was gay and why he kissed a male band member during a recent performance. The singer explains how he doesn't mind that his professional singing career was kick-started by a reality TV show such as ‘American Idol': "I rather live with maybe a little bit of stigma or a little bit of the credit issue as opposed to living in my studio apartment in Hollywood still making demo's on garage band." Lambert shares his experience on Idol and the judges: "I realized very quickly that I couldn't put that much weight on their response. Because they are just three people. Opinions are subjective, everyone has them." and how he dealt with their comments: "if I take what they say to heart too much then the audience is going to see that, and I don't know, I know what I just did was either good or bad, sometimes it was a mess, and I'd be like yeah that was kind of crazy. Sometimes I was really thrilled with the performance and would get a mixed bag reaction, and I'd be like, well I liked I had fun, I know the audience had fun, and just being who I am up there." The singer also talks about his sexuality and how he made no big secret about the fact that he was gay, especially in a well-publicized Rolling Stones magazine article. He tells Anjali: "I think it was more important for me to just be honest and open about who I was, that's always been something that has been very important to me. I came out of the closet when I was 18, I was out to everybody, it was never a big secret." Though openly gay, Lambert is undecided on being a spokesperson for gay rights in America and being a musician at the same time: "You know I haven't really decided yet, to be honest with you. I definitely have my opinions that I am very vocal about and not afraid to put them out there ... I'll lend my support, but that's not what I am here to do, I'm a singer. " On his recent appearance at the American Music Awards, the singer's display of affection for a male band member on TV resulted in 1500 complaints and a cancelled appearance on ‘Good Morning America". Lambert admits he "got a little carried away" but defends his moment: "these were things that kind of happened impromptu, the kiss, the raunchy choreography...that was something that just kind of happened. I'm very much a creature of impromptu performance. I do things by the spur of the moment both vocally and physically. That's kind of the type of performer that I am, and it has consequences on live TV apparently. It was something that in the aftermath I thought oh my gosh did I screw up, did I mess up, and looking back on it now, like a year later, it might have been too soon timing wise for people." He also shares with Anjali, stories of growing up in a conservative area of San Diego and the real Adam Lambert without the ‘guy-liner': "in actuality I'm just a regular guy. I do walk around in just a t-shirt and jeans. And I do kick it on the weekends, with friends, and go eat have a glass of wine. You know what I mean, I do normal things." Highlights of Adam Lambert's interview with TALK ASIA will be available online at www.cnn.com/talkasia after the first airing. rs This post has been edited by islandgirljams: Dec 14th 2010, 3:23 PM -------------------- ![]() |

Adam Lambert wins CMA-WAY German Award for Best International Male Singer December 12th, 2010 4:10 pm ET Do you like this story? GRAMMY® nominated singer Adam Lambert has won the CMA-WAY award for Best Male Singer - International, as announced by the !WANjK CMA Awards Twitter account on Dec. 12. Back on Oct. 25, fans learned that Lambert had been nominated for this award. The German CMA-WAY (Wild and Young) awards recognize both national and international popular actors, actresses, and musical performers. Lambert's competition in the category of Best Male Singer - International wasn't too shabby: Robbie Williams, Justin Bieber, David Guetta, Jack Johnson, and Alex May Band were all bested by the 'American Idol' breakout star. Unfortunately, Lambert was not in Germany for the award show, as he was performing at the Y100 Jingle Ball in Sunrise, FL last night and is traveling back to California today. Adam Lambert was also recently named Entertainer of the Year in the UK by Flecking Records, and he was just nominated for a GRAMMY for "Best Male Pop Vocal Performance" for platinum single "Whataya Want From Me." Lambert has been on tour in support of his debut album For Your Entertainment, and he wraps up the final shows next week in Los Angeles. UPDATE: Adam Lambert actually won TWO awards from CMA-WAY - read about it here! Continue the conversation and comment below! *** This post has been edited by islandgirljams: Dec 15th 2010, 2:53 PM -------------------- ![]() |

POP CULTURE WHORE: ADAM LAMBERT A YEAR IN REVIEW
http://www.popculturewhore.com/2010/12/ada...-in-review.html TUESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2010 Adam Lambert 2010: A Year In Review After rocketing to stardom with a runner up position on American Idol, televisions #1 show, many wondered where life would take Adam Lambert. Rumors abound from releasing an album to joining Queen as the new front man. Lambert ended up remaining solo and releasing his debut album, For Your Entertainment. After a much talked about debut performance on the American Music Awards, no one was quite sure where his career was headed from there. 2009 may have put him on the pop culture radar, but it was in 2010 that he would shoot into the pop stratosphere. Join us for Adam Lambert 2010: A Year In Review. Adam Lambert 2010: A Year In Review January 19 - The Oprah Winfrey Show - To get a seat on Oprah's couch is a feat that very few entertainers can say they've done. Mother O tends to ignore flavors of the moment for artists with substance. So it was a huge vote of confidence that Oprah invited Lambert on to the show to talk about his life and his music, and then perform. There's no better way to kick off a year - or a career - then with the big O behind you. March 10- VH-1 Unplugged - On March 10, VH-1 debuted VH-1 Unplugged: Adam Lambert. Joining the ranks of such artists as Eric Clapton, Mariah Carey, Elton Johnand Nirvana, Lambert played an acoustic set filmed live in New York at an intimate performance. The set included stories behind the songs: Whataya Want From Me, Down The Rabbit Hole, Mad World, Music Again and Broken Open. The Unplugged series isn't for fly-by-night pop tartlets and one hit wonders. It has always been about strong performers and vocalists. Having Lambert sign on to the franchise was a vote of confidence from the industry and Lambert certainly didn't disappoint with this one. This performance kicked off what was to become a landmark year in the performers career. April 9 - Remixes - Lambert released an EP titled Remixes, appropriately, containing remixes of the first two singles, For Your Entertainment and Whataya Want From Me. It also included a bonus track titled Voodoo which would become a fan favorite soon after. While the single For Your Entertainment had already peaked at #5 on the Billboard Dance Chart upon the release of the EP, Remixes helped cement Lambert as a dance friendly artist. Whataya Want From Me raced up the dance charts hitting #1 for two weeks in a row on the Billboard Dance Sales Chart. He would later repeat the feat with the release of "If I Had You" remixes. April 13 - American Idol Mentor - In 9 seasons of being the #1 show on television, there was one thing American Idol had not done - invited a previous contestant back to mentor. It's even more telling that it wasn't an American Idol "winner" that was brought back, but Lambert - a runner up. Lambert mentored the Season 9 contestants during Elvis week. Bringing showmanship and a visual flair that hadn't been seen on the Idol stage before, Lambert certainly helped the contestants to step up their game. 21 million people tuned into watch Lambert help mentor the contestants and 21 million watched the next night as he performed Whataya Want From Me. May 1 - Whataya Want From Me Hits #10 - With the release of the May 1st issue of Billboard, Whataya Want From Me had climbed the charts to peak at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. Airplay of the song was extremely high and sales were booming. The second single from For Your Entertainmentbecame Lambert's highest charting single to date, and his first Top 10 hit. The song would go on to sell over 1.5 million copies and remains high in recurring radio airplay. June 4 - Glam Nation Tour Kick Off - The first show of the Glam Nation Tour kicked off in Wilkes Barre, PA. The sold out show was the start of Lambert's first tour, and subsequently, where the "Glam Nation" began to really build. Fans came decked out in Lambert-like clothes, wearing top hats, gloves and glitter in places you didn't know it could stick. The 100+ date tour would go on to make over $5 million and play to 99% capacity. October 2 - 'If I Had You' Peaks - The third single from the debut album peaked at #30 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of October 2nd. Solidifying Lambert as a pop star to be reckoned with, If I Had You also hit #1 on the Billboard Dance Sales Charts, just as its predecessor did. The single marks the second Top 40 hit from the album. It has sold over 800,000 copies. November 20 - Spoofed on SNL - You know you've made it when you have been spoofed by the Saturday Night Live gang. The November 20 episode featured a small bit with an Adam look alike singing a high pitched note for what feels like forever. It wasn't mean. It wasn't necessarily making fun of him. The spoof was more making fun with him. November 21 - E! True Hollywood Story - The only American Idol runner-up to have an E! True Hollywood Story, the show interviewed Lambert's family and friends and focused on his life up to that point. Yet another testament to the Industry's belief in Lambert and further proof he had made it. December 1 - Grammy Nomination - The Grammy Nominations announcement brought a pleasant surprise to Lambert fans around the country, as it was announced he had been nominated for Best Male Pop Vocal for Whataya Want From Me. There are rumors that Lambert will be performing at the Grammy ceremony. He will go up against Michael Jackon, Bruno Mars, John Mayer and Michael Buble. Not bad for a debut album. December 6 - Acoustic Live! EP - The second EP to come from Lambert this year is an ode to his vocal brilliance. While For Your Entertainment featured huge production, Acoustic Live! focused soley on the vocals. Acoustic arrangements and guitar by Monte Pittmanelegantly feature the amazing range of Lambert, while giving a new life to the songs. 2010 has been quite a year for Adam Lambert and the Glam Nation. With the results of a lot of hard work in 2010, fans have a lot to look forward to in 2011 and beyond. We're just here for the ride - & the entertainment. *You are helping to support the site and it's content by clicking on the included links when making a purchase of any kind from Amazon.com We appreciate your patronage, your readership and your support* SHARE | LABELS: 2010, A YEAR IN REVIEW, ADAM LAMBERT, MONTE PITTMAN, MUSIC -------------------- ![]() |

don't know how to post a link http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and...1215-18xqh.html The most played song on Australian radio is... Andrew Murfett December 15, 2010 - 2:23PM Comments 27 Stuck in the loop ... American soft-rock outfit Train. JUST three Australian acts have landed in the top ten list of the most-played songs on Australian radio in 2010. The most played track on Australian radio this year, according to the monitoring service at music industry publication The Music Network, was Hey, Soul Sister by the American soft-rock group Train. The second highest-played track was Halfway Gone by another American soft-rock group, Lifehouse. The highest-rated Australian song, according to commercial radio programmers, was the John Butler Trio's hit Close To You. Melbourne rockers Jet were fourth with their single Seven-teen — which was released in 2009 — and Powderfinger landed at seven with their 2009-released track Burn Your Name. Advertisement: Story continues below Once again, as in previous years, a substantial portion of the top most-played tracks, bizarrely, did not reach even the Top 20 of ARIA's biggest-selling singles charts. Out of the Top 100 most-played, just 26 per cent were tracks from Australian artists. The John Butler Trio (number 3, 40 and 45) and Powderfinger (7, 34, 90) score the most slots in the top 100. Although acts such as Birds of Tokyo (45) and Guy Sebastian (69, 72) enjoyed strong singles and download sales last year on the ARIA chart, both were received tepid support compared with the airplay received by American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert (5) and American singer-songwriter John Mayer (10). Other international acts to poll well included British rockers Muse, Miami singer Jason Derulo and French DJ David Guetta. The best-selling Australian album of the year, A Book Like This from Sydney brother and sister duo Angus and Julia Stone, oddly failed to even land any of its three singles in the Top 100. Melbourne's Vanessa Amorosi (11 and 51), Perth's Gyroscope (26), Sydney's Amy Meredith (29) and Thirsty Merc (31) were among the Australian acts to feature on the chart instead. TOP 10 AUSTRALIAN AIRPLAY IN 2010 1 Train — Hey, Soul Sister 2 Lifehouse — Halfway Gone 3 John Butler Trio — Close To You 4 Jet — Seven-teen 5 Adam Lambert — Whataya Want From Me 6 Muse — Undisclosed Desires 7 Powderfinger — Burn Your Name 8 Jason Derulo — In My Head 9 Scouting For Girls — This Ain't A Love Song 10 John Mayer — Heartbreak Warfare Thanks so much Isla for starting this thread!! I don't have much time for vids, but I love articles and was disappointed that there weren't more in the Media thread. Adam Lambert's Jingle Balls Get Noticed and Chris Colfer Screenplay Better than "Sharktopus" Posted by Ed Kennedy on December 15, 2010 Adam Lambert performed at Jingle Ball, and Q102 Philly decided to tweet that Lambert’s prominent bulge was stuffed. An angry group of Lambert fans quickly informed the station that that bulge has always been present (I remember commenting on it during American Idol). The station had enough class to apologize. In Briefs we informed you that Ryan Reynolds was now single. So is Zac Efron, Michael C. Hall, and the guy from Nip/Tuck that isn’t Julian McMahon. It’s weird enough that two live action Snow White films are about to be made. But perhaps stranger is that Julia Roberts might play the Evil Queen in one of them. I like Roberts, but “evil” is too much of a stretch. But I have no problem seeing Charlize Theron in the same role in the other film. Thanks for starting this thread...Hopefully with all this media atttention for Adam; it will garner some return guest spots on Oprah, Ellen and Jay's shows.....He does have a new EP to promote IKR, well if not for the EP then for sure for the next album !!
