Since everything has fallen off the charts (at least the charts I document), I'm going to discontinue making this thread each week until the next album comes out . . . or if by some magical, mystical chance the US gets another single.
So just keep using this thread each week to report numbers, which might become more scarce, but hopefully not. If the sales of the Acoustic Live EP are steady enough to document, I'll make a new chart for it and add it here. But something tells me it won't be just like the other EPs he's released. No Adam reports, but posting anyway.
QUOTE Carrie Underwood, Lee DeWyze head different directions on sales chart Two American Idol winners, Carrie Underwood and Lee DeWyze, go in dramatically different directions on this week's Billboard 200. Carrie, who received one of CMT's Artist of the Year awards Tuesday during the taping of a ceremony that will air Friday, saw week-to-week sales of Play On rise 53%, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That's enough to push her up five spots on the Billboard chart in a week where a lot of albums saw huge sales increases. Her Some Hearts even jumped back on to The Billboard 200. Lee DeWyze's Live It Up, on the other hand, nearly falls out of the top 100 in its second week, its weekly sales dropping 62% and its chart position going from No. 19 to No. 93. Fantasia also made The Billboard 200, coming in at No. 103 with Back to Me. Several Idols -- including Carrie Underwood, Danny Gokey, Jason Castro and Chris Sligh -- had titles that more than doubled their weekly sales. Daughtry's Leave This Town, however, fell off the chart after a long run. Idol albums Carrie Underwood, Play On (18,000, +53%, 1.828 million total) (#66 BB200) Lee DeWyze, Live It Up (15,000, -62%, 53,000) (#93 BB200) Fantasia, Back to Me (12,000, +25%, 330,000) (#103 BB200) Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts (7,000, +144%, 7.048 million) (#192 BB200) Jason Castro, Who I Am (2,000, +148%, 5,000) Danny Gokey, My Best Days (2,000, +145%, 194,000) Mandisa, Freedom (1,000, +32%, 130,000) Mandisa, True Beauty (less than 1,000, +34%, 216,000) Chris Sligh, The Anatomy of Broken (less than 1,000, +163%, 5,000) (#51 Billboard Heatseekers) Mandisa, It's Christmas (less than 1,000, +27%, 24,000) Clay Aiken, Merry Christmas With Love (less than 1,000, +53%, 1.414 million) Idol-related Various, Now That's What I Call Music! 36 (62,000, +11%, 206,000 total) (#20 Billboard 200) Jason Aldean, My Kinda Party (59,000, +2%, 390,000) (#22 BB200) Various, Now That's What I Call Christmas! 4 (37,000, +27%, 96,000) (#33 BB200) Big Time Rush, BTW (19,000, +58%, 173,000) (#63 BB200) Glee Cast, Glee: The Music, Vol. 1 (10,000, +69%, 1.03 million) (#125 BB200) Various, The Essential Now That's What I Call Christmas (8,000, +24%, 334,000) (#162 BB200) Glee Cast, Glee: The Music, Vol. 2 (8,000, +74%, 780,000) (#164 BB200) Santana, Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time (7,000, +4%, 189,000) (#168 BB200) Various, Now That's What I Call a Country Christmas (7,000, +64%, 146,000) (#190 BB200) Various, WOW Hits 2010 (2,000, +23%, 442,000) Orla Fallon, Orla Fallon's Celtic Christmas (2,000, +8%, 3,000) (#10) Billboard Heatseekers) Correction: An earlier version of this story did not credit Fantasia's Back to Me as having made The Billboard 200. -------------------- |

Yes but Ash, what about the EP? RCA Ed had mentioned the weeks where it could impact into the BB200?
Also, do EP sales count toward CD sales, or are they completely separate? -------------------- ![]() |

Adam's EP will be a separate "album" sale. It won't go "towards" anything else, as in it won't translate to FYE album sales.
As far as reported sales numbers for that EP, I don't know because I think RCA is doing things so backwards. We're in the preorder stage now. The actual "for sale" date is Dec. 6. What I don't get is how you sell out of a preorder? A preorder is done to gage the amount that needs to be printed. Just like when we preordered Adam's CD at amazon. I don't expect EP sales numbers on Brian's blog til the week of Dec. 13. ETA. Went looking for what RCA Ed said and voila, he said what I said which makes sense. Dec. 13 is the week after Dec 6. Also still irked they aren't putting physical copies in stores. If he can sell 7k+ just on his official site, imagine the numbers if the casual customer in the store saw it. ![]() -------------------- |

Now many of us will be forced to buy the CD with the slightly different color cover. This post has been edited by MoreGlam: Dec 1st 2010, 12:12 PM -------------------- |

I honestly think that RCA intentionally kept the first edition limited. Now many of us will be forced to buy the CD with the slightly different color cover. Which is what was so stupid about doing a preorder. If it is limited, you have an already determined number that are being made. No need to do a preorder to gage how many copies they should print. They're doing it backwards. "It's a limited edition, but we're going to decide the number of copies to make AFTER you guys preorder." Why did they even bother with the limited edition tag? Why not just have 3 versions of the EP (1 with the poster, 1 without, and a digital version) and let the customer choose which one they want? Kinda like standard edition CD vs. deluxe edition. Adam Lambert, If I Had You (11,000, +22%, 659,000) WOW! That's awesome, but odd that there was no report last week and then wham 11k this week. Did anybody ever hear last week's numbers for IIHY? -------------------- |

I didn't understand the logic of many things RCA did, I can't understand this one, too. But wouldn't it be good if reviews of the EP (we got two with probably more coming) mention that the physical CD sold out ... -------------------- |

Exactly. I think RCA is a bit greedy, how it handles Adam's PR. They're banking on not needing the investment in distribution because they can make enough money selling it themselves. The shtick with the different colored spines is to make you hurry up and buy so you can get the first edition. I think they're going to sell a lot of 'first editions' before the second one comes out. I myself am considering ordering a second bundle and keeping it wrapped up til I'm 90. But maybe only die-hard fans think he's going to be around for fifty years. I think RCA is counting on there being a lot of us! -------------------- |

WOW! That's awesome, but odd that there was no report last week and then wham 11k this week. Did anybody ever hear last week's numbers for IIHY? IIHY was featured on Dancing With The Stars last week and had a brief spike on I-Tunes afterward which explains the increased sales. The week prior all the new Beatles songs pushed it out of the Top 200 so sales weren't reported by Mansfield. -------------------- |
