HELSINKI, FINLAND

IPB Image

Tonight's how is at the CABLE FACTORY

Helsinki is the capital and largest city in Finland. It is in the southern part of Finland, in the region of Uusimaa/Nyland, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, by the Baltic Sea. The population of the city of Helsinki is 584,420 (31 March 2010), making it the most populous municipality in Finland by a wide margin. Helsinki is located some 400 kilometres (250 mi) east of Stockholm, Sweden, 300 kilometres (190 mi) west of St. Petersburg, Russia and 80 kilometres (50 mi) north of Tallinn, Estonia. Helsinki has close connections with these three cities.
Helsinki is Finland's major political, educational, financial, cultural and research center. Helsinki is also an important regional city on the Baltic Sea and northern Europe. Approximately 70% of foreign companies operating in Finland have settled in the Helsinki region.

Helsinki is spread across a number of bays and peninsulas and over a number of islands. The inner city area occupies a southern peninsula, which is rarely referred to by its actual name Vironniemi. Population density in certain parts of Helsinki's inner city area is very high, reaching 16,494 inhabitants per square kilometer (42,719/sq mi) in the district of Kallio, but as a whole Helsinki's population density of 3,050 inhabitants per square kilometer (7,899/sq mi) ranks it as quite sparsely populated in comparison to other European capital cities. Much of Helsinki outside the inner city area consists of postwar suburbs separated from each other by patches of forests. A narrow, ten kilometre (6.2 mi) long Helsinki Central Park that stretches from the inner city to the northern border of Helsinki is an important recreational area for residents.

Some notable islands in Helsinki include Seurasaari, Lauttasaari and Korkeasaari – which is also the country's biggest zoo – as well as the fortress island of Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) and the military island of Santahamina.

Helsinki is, however, perhaps even more famous for its numerous Art Nouveau (Jugend in Finnish) buildings, designed in the early 1900s and strongly influenced by the Kalevala, which is a very popular theme in the national romantic art of that era. Helsinki's Art Nouveau style is also featured in large residential areas such as Katajanokka and Ullanlinna. The master of the Finnish Art Nouveau was Eliel Saarinen (1873–1950), whose architectural masterpiece was the Helsinki central railway station. As a historical footnote, Helsinki's neoclassical buildings were often used as a backdrop for scenes set to take place in the Soviet Union in many Cold War era Hollywood movies, when filming in the USSR was not possible. Some of the more notable ones are The Kremlin Letter (1970), Reds (1981) and Gorky Park (1983). Because some of the streetscapes were reminiscent of Leningrad's and Moscow's old buildings, they were used in the production – much to some residents' dismay. At the same time the government secretly instructed Finnish officials not to extend assistance to such film projects.

Finnish and Swedish are the official languages of the municipality of Helsinki. The majority, or 84.3% of the population, speak Finnish as their native language. A minority, at 6.1%, speak Finland Swedish. Those who speak a native language other than Finnish or Swedish stand at around 9.6% of the population.

The Helsinki metropolitan area generates approximately one third of Finland's GDP. GDP per capita is roughly 1.5 times the national average making Helsinki one of the wealthiest capitals in Europe. Helsinki's GDP per capita is one of the highest of any city in the world.

THE VENUE
The party place is the Cable factory in Helsinki, Finland. It is a former Nokia cable factory (closed in 1987) and the building is home to many art projects, companies and culture events. Our event is located in the Merikaapelihalli, which is the largest hall in the building and often used for large-scale fairs and techno parties. It used to be the hall where the largest heavy duty cables were manufactured. In other parts of the building, Nokia developed and tested for decades what would become their main product - the mobile phones.

A look at where we are tonight

haha.gif I love that we're back to discussion we had when the venue was released. lol. I'd be fine with a concert in prison but I don't want to be near of Cable Factory when Adam and the sound guy find out how bad the venue is soundwise. I wish we could have done better. sad.gif and in Cable Factory back is really back... the hall is like, 100 meters long and 25m wide.

Oh and I hope the fans queueing won't freeze to death... the venue is near the Baltic Sea so the wind better stay calm or else.

The venue is where 'A' is. Happy freezing for me haha.gif

On what time do you think to go to freeze?
Nice to go back to my old neighborhood. I used to live in Lauttasaari as a student, right next to the Lauttasaarensilta.

I guess I have to go early if I want to see even something... some teens are planning to arrive at 7-8 or previous evening (which I hope they don't do...). I'm thinking of going at 9 or 10, depends on people I'm going to queue with. Most of them skipped queueing and got Glitz but thankfully at least a few are going to queue. Twitter might be my best friend for the first few hours lol. Yeah and of course it depends on weather too. It could be anything in early November. Paramore had a concert in Finland in November last year and it wasn't cold at all (as far as I remember).

I like Lauttasaari a lot... close to the sea and nice atmosphere overall. I looked for an apartment in Lauttasaari 5 years ago but couldn't get any. My friend just moved there, lucky girl.

I hope it is not snowing or strong wind ... because I plan to be there Saturday as early as I can. It is national holiday day so not so many busses scheduled as usually.

I bought glam boots when I got ticket tongue.gif but I will probably take sneakers instead. Easier to run for front row grin.gif

I think I will probably end look like arctic traveler before concert. Warm warm clothes

Newest Miss Mix (teen magazine) had big poster of concert:
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=5261...;id=91590266817

Also Habbo is arranging contest where winner can go to see Adam in limousine car, winner gets tickets to concert and album too

At least it would be cheap grin.gif . It's so difficult to know how late to go. Anyhow, where ever I end up to stand, I will not see much. Sometimes it's even better to stand behind where you have some more room around you than be pushed with your face to someones back. What to do, what to do?

And I am STILL trying to figure out where the stage is???

Maybe all the fans have to stay in the cell blocks and Adam just dances his way up and down the corridor? That could be amusing....protected tongue diving???

Well, it seems Adam chose it by himself out of venues he was offered.

The pic is taken from where the stage may be:

Or the stage can be in the opposite end of the hall too:

Where are you staying? In a hotel or with relatives/friends?

The Friday - Saturday night I will go to Lahti (my dear home city) to drop my luggage. My mom has over there an apartment no-one lives in and I can use when visiting Finland. Saturday- Sunday I will probably stay in Helsinki by friends or in a hotel. Don't know yet. Planning to go out after Adam.

I don't know yet about after parties and such (or where people are going after the concert) for our GNT show but let's just say I kinda find it appropriate how there's a Halloween party in DTM (yes it's gay club, hetero friendly tho) on 6th November. I suppose glam outfits are ok for dresscode? haha.gif
