QUOTE(SlenderFrame @ Jan 17th 2012, 6:36 AM) *

It's great to find someone sharing almost all my tastes. grin.gif
I guess you noticed Cyrielle is part of Encore une chance if you liked her, as Marie.

About François not doing XF, I heard that Julie told him he should try NS instead because he would get a better exposure. I guess they knew that a small channel like W9 could not really do much for the XF winner -maybe that decision killed the concept in France, sadly.

Like you I'm not sure 2d nature are still together...
And I agree that Jenifer or Kyo are not considered as "rock" and are strange choices if you want to sell a band as "rock"... If at least they had tried something new with arrangements... I also agree about OmeGa cockiness, as a mentor Padovani should have told them their attitude was not the good one to reach the main audience who votes. At least the band found some new followers by doing the show.

It's not that Matthew was "unworthy", I understand why people voted for him. But it seems to me they will try to sell it as another M Pokkora and that will not help him. (MP has a huge fanbase very protective and active). Plus Veronic should have trained him technically much more (she's a great vocalist herself) because that was his flaw. Actually, a contestant with Florian's technical skills, Raphaël's artistic ideas & Matthew's stage presence would have been perfect... wink.gif

What I like about Maryvette is her originality: I did not like every performances but everytime I was surprised by arrangments, scenery, mood... I also loved to see teh complicity between Chris & her. happy.gif

I think the problem with girls like Marie & Marina is plain & simple they are too young... You need to have life experience to convey something in your singing...

Yeah I know for both Marie and Cyrielle in "Encore une chance". But as I said, I cant imagin them singin a Kmaro or Corneille's song tongue.gif Well hopefully this will give them some opportunities for their carreer ... (Im not convinced, but why not after all)

I also agree about Marie and Marina's age being one of their problem. They are too young. The other problem for me is that they are the kind of singers who only focus on the technical aspect of singing. As you said, contestants have to convey something in their singing, and they dont do it, because of their age and in my opinion because of their relationships towards singing. They sing like girls who were trained properly, but they do not add anything more in their singing, they dont seem to realize that singing should be more than just being in tune, singing with a powerful voice and hitting some high notes. But maybe as they will grow older they will realize it.

I agree about Maryvette, I didnt like everything she did but I was impressed with her originality and artistry. Christophe was a great mentor for her, you could see he understood her perfectly.

Unfortunatly I think youre right for Matthew, they will try to make a 2nd cheap M Pokora no.gif and it wont work. I think Matthew would have a better chance if he was singing the type of Pop music he sang in the show (both in french and english like "Time after time", "ca fait mal", man in the mirror,"price tag") instead of doing something more rnb/dance.

Yeah I think youre right about francois, I think it was Julie who told him to audition for NS to get more exposure ... and she was right. But still it shows that they were aware that the X Factor on W9 was not going to do very well ...

There was a rumour about NS coming back instead XF this year in France, but it seems that for the moment there wont be anything on M6, I havent heard any news about it. I know the voice is coming on TF1 and that they started the auditions (Jenifer is one of the judges by the way), but it seems that this spring M6 wont air any singing competition. It seems people prefer NS in France, but I think they shouldnt give up the X Factor that easily, it could be improved I think. I mean, maybe if they really try to adapt it for a french audience instead of just doing a copycat of the british version, it could work better, like they did for NS: NS's first seasons wasnt that great, but 2nd season was completly different and much better, and it was not a copycat of Pop Idol or American Idol for instance.

22. Georges-Alain Jones - New Jersey

IPB Image

Show Star Academy 2
Release date: 2005

Favourite tracks: "central park", "Terence Hill", "Messieurs les Jurés"...
Least favourite tracks: None

There has been one "Rebel" character in each season of StarAc but each of them was a different kind of rebel. On season 2 GA was the hypersensitive shady character. Georges-Alain remains famous in Real-TV history for 2 moments. The moment he punched the door of the girl's bedroom (did everyone realize that by punching the door, rather than someone's face, he was hurting himself rather than the other?). And the moment he almost broke the castle main entry door by throwing in the chair and table of the telephone corner before rushing in to take some air in the park. He would later explain to Houcine, still shaking with anger, that hearing her aunt, who raised him as a mother (I don't remember his story but it seems the real parents were out of the picture whatever the reason might be) in tears on the phone had put him on the edge (they could only talk to the outside world through that phone for 1short minute per day).
Observing the guy for one hour was enough to understand he had a hard time putting up with the "inprisonment". It took time before he could sing without keeping his eyes on his feet, much to the dispair of Raphaëlle Ritchie, the Artistic Expression coach. In her autobiography she tells that she finally got a key to communicate with GA when she found out they had a common friend. She says she litterally saw GA's eyes light up when she transmitted him a simple hello from their common acquaintance. The guy remains one of her favourite pupils...
I guess that's why some people did not like him. Those who could see the fear and loneliness behind the uncommunicative face (like Raphaëlle) noticed GA was the kind of person to open to a few, but to open fully and truthfully to the ones he choosed. Before the boys semi-final, while answering questions in the Confessional, he took one of those rare looks straight at the cameras to say: "Anyway, Houcine has to be the finalist. Period." He could come up with an emotional performance when singing somthing he believed in (his rendition of "Diego" for example) but also totally lose it when singing something he did not like: his giggles on "Aserejé" remain a favourite of SA bloopers...
It looks like GA remained a free spirit. It took him 2 years to release his album and since... he has dropped or been dropped from his record contract, founded a familly with a dancer encountered on StarAc Tour and gives concerts including new songs that he never recorded. And he seems to be happy that way...
As for the album, it's folk pop with a touch of country even. GA's voice will not be everyone's taste but I like it - and this style suits him. He is one of the few SA contestants who's voice is intantaneously recognizable.

21. Premix - Chambre 1512

IPB Image

Show Star Academy 3
Release date 2004

Favourite tracks: I like all of them.
Least favourite tracks: hidden track "I wanna be your sex".

It's sad that so few of the songs can be found on YT or elsewhere, because this album is actually a neat collection. How does it sound? Well, if you put 3 young guys who love playing acoustic guitar and beatboxing in the same room and let them play, this is what comes out. The 3 of them are musicians, writers and composers. Their voices bland nicely as each of them takes the lead singing in turn. The only negative points are the intro and hidden track that I think unnecessary. Theyre are romantic songs about relationships and cockier songs about the kind of guys they were at that age. I think the album was well produced and several songs might have been radio singles, but it did not turn that way. The album came with a small funny comic books summing up their adventures.
They apparently lived together in an hotel, room 1512, hence the title, were they composed and recorded the demos for this album. They split up in late 2005, in good terms, to work on solo projects.
Pierre was casted as the rebel of season 3 (this one was "the nasty brat"): one of his famous . he was probably one of those the producers were considering as a possible winner (they had been impressed with his personal acoustic version of Billie Jean). But he shot himself in the foot by leaving the show after a brilliant rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody". He almost lost his spot on the tour for making that decision. His latest project was "Pierre & sa Loop".
Romain was casted as "the pretty boy" and I guess some girls did melt for his blue eyes back then (TF1 even caught him and Sofia Essaidi kissing in a corner, but it looks like it did not last more than 2 days). Unlike Alexandre Balduzzi on season 2, Romain did not seem comfortable with his part in the sitcom and rather played relentlessly of his charm. The boy was a good singer but very laid-back, I think he never really forced his own talent. Raphaëlle Ritchie tells in her autobiography that, on his last nomination, Romain was high on pot when he came to listen to the teachers comments. The guy was so relaxed that the teachers could not help laughing and they had to re-do the sequence several times. he was eliminated straight after earning his spot on the StarAc tour and seemed kind of happy this way... As Romain Wylson, he is trying to get his album produced on the participative label AkaMusic. Let's hope his participation to Encore une chance will help... More on the fan blog: http://romain-wylson.skyrock.com/
Edouard was eliminated earlier than the previous 2. More a musician than a singer, he was also very discreet. He probably earned the 9th spot on the Tour thanks to his love story with Elodie Frégé (featured here on "Harry") who broke up with her boyfriend after one week in the castle to be with Edouard (to her defense, I think her relationship with the guy waiting outside was quite new). That love story, the friendship Sofia/Patxi - Elodie/Michal & the supposed competition between Elo & Sofia fueled most of the daily sitcom. On further editions on the show, Edouard was hired as guitarist in the live band accompying the contestants on the live shows. he place on song on Magalie Vaé 1st album and apparently goes on writing.

20. Louisy Joseph - La saison des amours

IPB Image

Show: Popstars 1
Release date: 2008

Favourite song: I like them all
Least favourite song: Maybe lacking of variety in inspiration for the songs topics.

In 2001, "Lydy" is selected in the winning girl band of Popstars 1, L5. They released 3 studio albums (the 1st one was a huge seller, the numbers dropped with each new release and the 3d album went almost unnoticed), 1 live album and a best of before splitting up in 2007, as most Popstars made bands. I think 3 albums is actually a good performance for a Popstar bands (Girls Aloud are probably the only ones to do better). It's the longer lasting band manufactured by the show in France: What 4 (2 girls/2 boys) and boyband LinkUp splitted after the 1st album. The girls were recently reunited for a TV show, without Louisy...

In 2008, with her real hair colour and under her real name, Louisy Joseph is the 1st of the 5 to release a solo album with a major label. Far from the manufactured pop of L5 she wanted to pay hommage to her influences: soul & reggae. It was not surprising that Louisy went on her 1st tour as opening act for Christophe maé. The singles are well representative of the album.
Louisy is a seriously good vocalist, even if some will criticized her for a couple of vocal tics. You can also comment than 1song about Janis Joplin and another about John Lennon on a 1st album might be too much. The ballads are beautiful (La saison des amours, On croît rêver). The up tempos are groovy and fresh and overall it's an enjoyable and honest sounding album. I do believe some topics were really personnal to Louisy ("Mes insomnies" she said, came from the fact she really suffers from insomnia; "Sur la pointe des pieds" seems to be about someone she knew, "Laissez faire" would be her philosophy)

Louisy was supposed to release her 2d one in september 2011, but I guess it's been postponed or cancelled like many projects these days. Sadly.

19. Amel Bent - A 20 ans

IPB Image

Show: Nouvelle Star 2
Release date: 2007

Favourite song: "A 20 ans", "Scandale", "Désolée"
Least favourite song: none

Amel 3d album was released when she was in a dark place, with her boyfriend facing justice and other familial issues. She also expressed her difficulties with fame and press ("Scandale"). The writers and producers remain the same (including rapper Diam's, who wrote her 1st hit), the sound is more hip-hop oriented. The 1st single was slightly different and upbeat, the rest of the album is more conventionnal ballads and mid-tempos.
I like the album mood, the classy black & white photo shoot of the booklet.. Of course I'm happy for Amel she seems to feel much better now!

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think about George Alain is his performance on Las Ketchup haha.gif I think it's one of the performances people remember the most from Star Ac, because it was so funny. I just love how the girls (Emma, Nolwenn etc) who were doing the dancing and the back up vocals kept on performing like everything was fine while GA clearly felt that it was a complete and utter disaster haha.gif But if Im being honnest, no need to be a genius to realise that giving this song to GA was a mistake. I imagin they gave him the song knowing he will screw up and that it will end up being a great moment of entertainment. But let's be fair, as you said, GA could be really good when he was given the right stuff, I really enjoy his performance of "Diego" for instance. GA has a special voice, obviously some people won't like it, but I like it. Obviously it's not the type of voice that will sound good on everything, and the fact that in Star ac they gave him a lot of songs that didnt fit him at all led many people to think that GA was not talented.
I havent listened to his whole album, but I really like Central Park since the first time I heard it, I think that type of song really fit GA well. I heard a few other stuff from him and thought it sounded good.

I've never really heard about Premix's music, but I remember when Pierre left Star Ac, that was kinda unexpected, especially since he could have gone further, and I may be wrong, but maybe going further in Star ac could have helped him in his career, I don't know. Edouard was a really good guitarist, he was definitely more a musician than a singer. I dont remember Romain, beside the fact that he was good looking tongue.gif

Oh my goodness its so weird to listen to "Toutes les femmes de ta vie" now, I hadnt heard this song for years fear2.gif I mean, it seems so far away, the song wame out when I was 11 years old. I hadnt watched Popstars, but like everyone in France I knew about the L5, and I liked the song. If Im being honnest Ive never been that crazy about what they released, because Im not that much into Girls band or boys band, but some of the songs were ok, like this one, or "Une etincelle", "Maniac", "Retiens moi" and others I forgot. It's true the third album was unoticed, I can't even remember what was its titles or what singles were released from it.
I like Lydie's single "Assis par terre" and some of the other stuffs I heard from her. It's too bad she didnt release her second album, but yeah unfortunately right now many projects get canceled in the music industry no.gif

As I've said before Im necessary not a fan of Amel's music, but I do like her voice and like what she did on Nouvelle Star. I also like some of her songs, and "20 ans" with Diams is one of those I really like. However, I really dont like "Nouveaux francais" ermm.gif I dont know why but ive never liked this song at all.

I'll be back to comment on the rest of your list thumbsup.gif

18. Self Concept - Who are you?

IPB Image

Show: Star academy 3
Release date: 2011

Favourite tracks: Too strange
Least favourite tracks: none

You might have trouble recognizing him on the album cover, but Self Concept is noone else than Michal, runner-up of SA3 we already encountered lower in this list.
After his 2d album flopped, Michal took back his contract from Mercury. He also parted from his manager. He is now autoproduced and seems to feel good about the fredom it gives him. He regulrarly gives concerts in small venues in Paris, and seems to have a career in Poland (in my previous post about his 2d album i linked you to his performances on pPolish dancing with the stars). You'll find live videos quite easily on YT if you search Self Concept.
I told you I thought Michal's fist album was not representative of his real personnality, at least not in its complexity. The 2d one was a step towards something closer. But choosing a new artist name gave him the possibility to have a real fresh start.
Michal aka Self Concept sings in English, not in French anymore (that will not help him sell in France but he does not seem to care). His accent is less disturbing for me in that language, but I'm not a native speaker. I must say lyrics sound sometimes a little light. Probably Michal has taken the oposite extreme, exagerating the "dark angel" image. That look and musical evolution probably confused some of his SA fans, like his former manager...

As for the sound, Michal is now for real an electro-pop artist. Being a teenager of the 80's, I recognize familiar sounds in Michal's music: new wave (Depeche Mode - in the "Too strange" video, references to Dave Gahan's look are obvious , New Order...), New Romantics... Nothing ground breaking, and a lot to improve, but I enjoy this type of music, as the DM fan that I am... Even if Michal will never be Dave Gahan, or Martin L Gore.

NB: when I started the list Self Concept had only released an EP in 2010, it was the Ep I originally ranked here... Since it took me so long to reach this spot, the album was already available and I of course decided to rank it rather than the EP.

Show: Star Academy 2
Release date: 2006

Favourite tracks: "Mon tombeur", "Dommage", "Même pas en rêve"
Least favourite tracks: none

After re-listening again "Le chemin de la maison" for the previous entry by Emma, I think I might have ranked it higher and this one slightly lower, maybe... Emma's 2d album was a natural evolution from her 1st. To me it was better. The songs were better produced, and lyrics were better written. Some tracks proposed nice variation around her pop-rock sound ("Mon Tombeur"). Unfortunately the radios did not follow and the record company did not put lots of efforts to promote it. It was I think a difficult period for Emma.
I think they made the wrong choices for singles. "Regarde-nous" (written by Kyo'singer Benoit Power) sounds too close of her previous singles from the 1st album. I would have pushed "Mon Tombeur" (the video was shot for the internet and was never played on TV), "Même pas en rêve" instead...
Another sad coincidence: Emma recorded duets with 2 international bands at the same time. Only one ended up promoted in France (and added as a hidden track on Emma's album): "You got me" with Eskobar, while "Someone" with Hanson was buried in the band's album.

16. Grégory Lemarchal - Je deviens moi

IPB Image

Show: Star Academy 4
Release date: 2005

Favourite song: "Je t'écris"
Least favourite song: none. It's basic French variété but well written and produced and Greg's voice really conveys emotion.

A few weeks before SA 4th season would begun, tabloids and internet blogs would try to give away "exclusive" informations about the contestants (who's names and faces were kept secret until the 1st live show). I guess TF1 actually gave some tidbits of info to them to creat the buzz.
One of the rumours on the net was that one contestant would be affected with "an incurable sickness" - I remember some were even supposing there might be an HIV positive contestant among the 18 selected that year.
It turned out that Grégory was diagnozed with cystic fibrosis as a baby. You can look up to know more about the sickness, but in short: it's a genetic disease affecting mainly lungs. It turns the fluid that is supposed to lubricate them into viscous secrations, making it hard to breathe (as Greg's manager would explain to SA 7 contestants: "imagine breathing with a 1T weight on your chest..."). Greg would never play the victim: at the age of 13 he was France Acrobatic Rock champion with his dance group and played basket-ball. Singing was a dream for Greg, who tried first M6 "Graine de Star" (like Jenifer) and took part in a musical.

In his presentation, his doctor explained in a very simple and non dramatic way the consequences of such a sickness on everyday life. The other contestants would tell after his death, than on the 1st day he gathered them around him and said: "I will never talk about it again and don't want to be treated as a sick person" before explaining them the treatments he had to follow every day. That year, the contestants were living in the Annex instead of the Castle itself, used for classrooms only. TF1 could then reserve one bedroom without cameras for Greg, preserving his privacy when he had to meet his doctor, and avoiding images of him coughing during the night. Before or after, no other contestant ever received this special treatment anymore.

From the 1st live show, it was evident that TF1 would have his 1st male winner (previous ones were Jenifer, Nolwenn Leroy & Elodie Frégé if you remember previous entries of this list). Of course, the sob story would attract the voting public's attention (even if Greg never used it, and if I reckon TF1, when I look back at it, remained extremely classy and avoided any possible trash TV). But Greg's best weapons were his voice, incredibly powerfull for someone with breath difficulties, and his natural charisma.
He was presented to the public in a trio with Sofiane and Radia, and stole the show without even trying to. The voice, the firm, clear and direct look to the camera did the job. During the night, the 1st fan forum was open (it would turn into the official one later). Everyone, contestants, public, teachers, producers, understood the game that season would not be to guess the winner, but who would have the honour to lose in semi-fiale & Finale against Greg (that would be athieu Johann & Lucie Bernardoni).
It's funny to see the candidates did not seem to hold it against him. Sofiane called him Little Brother and Mathieu Johann Little Prince. Hoda remains a friend of Greg's family.
Greg himself did not seem to believe his victory was so certain (the body language of Lucie and Greg as they are expecting the revelation of the winner is revealing: he's nervous as hell while she is calm and constantly looking at him as expecting the right moment to congratulate him) and I think he is an exemple of how making the race as the frontrunner might not be as comfortable as it seems. His tears of joy and genuine victory cry: "Thank you life!" when he got teh trophy probably brough as many tears than smiles in his fans hearts. For the story: the trophy was broken the very same night as the person who was supposed to hold it while Greg was answering questions dropped it...

If Jenifer & Nolwenn had to pick songs from a list to record them on their 1st album (Elodie probably had to do it too but had the chance to see 3 of her self-penned songs accepted on the tracklist), it sounds evident that Gregory got songs who were written for him: the powerfull & epic "Je t'écris", by novelist Marc Lévy, "A corps perdu" or "Je suis en vie" evident allusions to fight for life, "Le feu sur les planches", about his burnign desire to be a performing artist...
When Jenifer & Nolwenn had to wait their second solo tour to get a live album and DVD out (still none for Elodie), Grégory had his "Olympia 2006" released as a testimony of his 1st solo tour. Probably Universal knew they had to record as much as they could before it was too late.

Greg had his share of tabloids covers when he started to date Karine Feri, a brunette who came to fame as bachelorette in French version of "The Bachelor", and had a successfull reconversion as TV presenter on M6. Tabloids first pretended that the romance was fake, to creat attention around the 2. It soon became clear though that the releationship was solid.

Greg last TV appearance, to my knowledge, took place after SA6 finale. TF1 had a "100th show" special with th" 6 winners. Greg appeared tired and pale but valiant. He performed a burning "Show must go on" with Patrick Bruel.
At the end of his tour, he told the fans he would take some time to rest and work on his 2d album. He announced he was writing lyrics.
It looks he had finally decided to go for a tranplant realizing his tour had really weaken his lungs (he had been puching it back, worried that the operation would affect his way of singing).Begining of April he was hospitalized as his health deteriorated. he was placed in artificial coma, with his and his family consent, to wait for a transplant. Unfortunatelly, he never woke up and passed away on April 30th. His fans came in-crowd to his funerals, on May 3d in his native town of Chambery.
The next evening, "La voix d'un ange" aired on TF1. Hosted by Nikos Aliagas, the show was brodacsted live from the Castle (Nikos explained that it sounded better to them to gather in a place Greg actually knew, instead of doing a show on from the live studio that had changed a lot since SA4) and raised money for the "L'Association Grégory Lemarchal" created by his parents to make the children suffering with cystic fibrosis long stays in hospital more agreeable (they also promote organ and tissue donations) . Several SA4 contestants, but also Nolwenn Leroy, Sofia Essaidi, teachers, artists who met Greg or worked with him, came to testimony - some of them had become real friends, like Nol. It was announced that a posthumous album with the same title would be released, and the 1st single was premiered then: "De temps en temps", one of the few songs Greg had time to record for his 2d album before being hospitalized. Most profits of the album sales were given to the Association. That album contains 4 new songs that were ready for the 2d album and live recordings (mainly from TV show appearances).
A second posthumous album titled "Rêves" was released in 2009, once again all profits were given to the Association. "Rêves" is more a best of, with Greg's singles and some big tracks from the 1st album (some of them sound like they have been mixed slightly differently), a couple of new songs ("Je rêve" and "Tu prends") and covers that Greg had recorded before SA ("Zora sourit" from Celine Dion, "Entre nous" by Chimène Badi).
During SA7, one show was devoted to honour Greg's memory? The SA7 contestants sand Greg's song with artists who knew him (Patrick Bruel, Patrick Fiori, Julie Zenatti) in presence of the parents. It was anotehr occasion to raise money for the association;

His parents and sister are still involving themselves in the fight agains Cystic Fibrosis "to make sure that one day that sickness will stop taking our children away" in Greg's mother's terms. Karine remains close to them., as well as Greg's manager. Both Greg's mother ("Sous ton regard") & sister ("Mon frère, l'artiste") have written books about Greg and his dad organizes fundraisers for the association.

When I first read the name "Self Concept" and saw the album cover, I had no idea who that was. I thought "Well I dont remember someone named Self concept in any of these shows. Is it a band created by a former contestant, or someone from a show I didnt really watch ?" haha.gif If Im being honest I would have never guessed that Self Concept was Michal if you hadnt precised it and Im really surprised by the new direction he's taking with his career. You're actually right when you say that his first album was not representative of his real artistic personality, it is so different fear2.gif I mean, it's not the first time that there is a change between the first and second album released by a contestant in one of these shows, but here its probably one of the most drastic changes I've ever seen. I have to say Im pleasantly surprised with what I hear from Michal, I really like his new music, I've always thought Michal was a bit boring when he was on Star Ac and with some of his former songs, but this made me change my mind about him. He is so much more interesting than I though in the first place.
I have to thank you for making me discover his music because I dont think I would have found it by myself thumbsup.gif

I love Emma's Effets Secondaires. It's hard to judge which album I prefer between this one and Le Saut de l'Ange. I think I prefer Le Saut de l'Ange but maybe it's because Ive listened to it more. But both albums are really good anyway. I like the fact that she kept the pop/rock sound of her first album, but that she changed it a bit so the two albums dont sound the same. "Mon tombeur" is my favourite song and I think it could have done well if it had been promoted better. It's a shame this album didnt get much success. Like you I think the singles were not really well chosen and there was a real lack of promotion. I havent listened to Emma's third album, Ive just heard a few snippets and it sounds good. Ill definitely give it a proper listen.

Glad you liked Self Concept! flowers.gif
I think this kind of music definitively suits him better. original.gif
BTW it's his 3d album (the 2d is somewhere in the list). There was a change of sound from the 1st to the 2d album already (more electro-pop, 80's kind of sound) and he was covering Depeche Mode a lot in concert, so to me it's no real surprise. But for someone who was not following him, I guess it sounds drastic. original.gif

Happy you are discovering stuff thanks to the list, it was the point. happy.gif

Some news as I'm thinking about it:
Lucie Azard (SA), Larry Lambert (NS) , Cynthia Brown (SA) and a girl from Popstar I don't know (Jessie?) are the finalists of "Encore une chance".Corneille & K Maro have written one song each looks like there might be 2 winners.

François Raoult, who lost NS to Luce, releases a single, Elodie Frégé is a backing vocalist on it :
http://www.chartsinfrance.net/actualite/news-78386.html
http://zikcard.com/francoisraoult
No date for the album release yet but it seems to be ready. Benjamin Tesquet who produced the latest album b Elo also produced this one.
I liked him so I hope the album will come out soon. whistling.gif

Second single from Amel Bent "Délit Mineur" is "Délit".

M Pokkora is already preparing a new album "A la poursuite du bonheur".

First single: "Juste un instant":

I'll be back with the rest of the list soon, next are 2 girls that have already appeared here and one guy who has not yet been mentionned. innocent.gif

Quick update, I won't make long comments as both already appeared on the list.

15. Jenifer - Lunatique

IPB Image

Show: Star Academy 1
Release date: 2007

Favourite songs: "Comme un hic" "Quitte à se quitter" "si c'est une île"
Least favourite songs: none

This is actually the 1st album by Jen I purchased, as I liked the singles. Afterwards I bought the previous ones (at a cheaper price, sometimes i'd better wait before buying and just be patient).
As you can tell from the cover, Jen is now fully grown up. The little girl who won StarAc with tears in her eyes has turned into an established recording artist and mother.
Not much more to say, as her sound evolves without really being drastically different.

14. Olivia Ruiz - La Femme Chocolat

IPB Image

Show: Star Academy 1
Release date: 2008

Favourite songs: "J'traine les pieds" "Non-dits"
Least favourite songs: "Vitrier"

Her 1st album got her recognition from the indie/rock press but was not really a public success. This time Olivia turns into a popular artist. Constantly preszented as the StarAc girl who made it out of the format she also placed 2 singles on radios.
Mixing French chanson, rock, and her spanish roots, Olivia keeps on the same road than on the 1st album with maybe more direction. She'll become omni-present in the medias with videos, TV appearances, articles about her (long) tour that will take her as far as south america.
A live CD and DVD have been released about the Chocolat Show Tour.
"La Chica Chocolate" is a mix of Olivia's 2 albums, with spanish versions of several songs.
I like Olivia's energy and "latina" sensitivity. Some songs are really poetic.

I love "La femme chocolat" w00t.gif it's an awesome album, one of my favourite from a Star Ac' contestant. I've heard this one before hearing Olivia's first album, I think it's the fact that I enjoyed this one so much that made me listen to "Jaime pas l'amour". I came across it a bit randomly, I was in a music shop when Olivia's album was released and they were broadcasting it, and I really liked what I was hearing. My favourites on the CD are Jtraine des pieds, Non dits, I need a child, La petite voleuse and Vitrier, but I like every song on the album. I absolutely love the duet on "Tais toi mon coeur" heart.gif La mecanique du coeur is a really good stuff.

It's really time to finish this list...

13. Mathieu Johann - La bonheur ça fait mal

IPB Image

Show: Star academy 4
Release date: 2008

Favourite songs: "Certaines histoires"
Least favourite songs: none

I remember a comment from someone on a forum, during SA 4: "he looks like an Afghan hound among crossbred dogs". He did sound and look older and more mature than several other contestants, choosing his words carefully when answering questions in confessional and watching even more carefully how TF1 was picturing him when given the occasion to view one of those vidoe resumé of the week they showed during the weekly live show. I had the sensation he spent the 3 first weeks wondering what the heck he was doing there. Then he understood the character the production expected him to be and used it at his advantage. That year, contestants roughly separated in 2 groups: the younger ones lead by rapper Harlem Harl and the older, seriouser ones, that soon gathered around Mathieu... Gregory, the future winner, seemed closer to the 1st but had strong friendships with proeminent members of the second (Mathieu, Hoda, & Lucie), playing sort of referee. Mathieu was the one who nicknamed Greg "The Little Prince".
One of the strangest moments in the competition was a conversation between Harlem, nominated to exclusion and certain to be eliminated that week, and Mathieu, where I had teh sensation the leader of the previously winning group recognized his startegic mistakes and handed other the leadership of the entire remaining community to Mathieu. In the end, with Lucie ending up runner-up and Hoda & Mathieu himself in semi-final, the "hard workers" dominated. They even took some revenge when the public voted in contestants like John Eyzen & Radia Bensarsa for the Tour, over Enrique & francesca who lasted longer in teh competition (helped, in my opinion, by the production who made many strange choices that year).
Mathieu, like Patxi Garat or Georges-alain Jones, was not the strongest vocalist in competition, more a musician & song writer. I liked his intelligence and elegance.
Song writer, Mathieu already had a contract (with Sony) and recorded an album that was never released before trying StarAc. "la plus belle fille du monde" had been recorded for that album. I love "Certaines histoires" featuring StarAc 5 contestant Maud Verdeyen. The only thing you can reprocah mathieu is maybe to have several songs centered around a famous name. "Frida" is about painter Fridao Khalo, "Doisneau" about the photograph and "Les jambes de Laure" 'narrator is a handicaped little boy dreaming to have strong legs as swimming Olympic champion Laure Manaudou...

Unfortunatelly, and as it happened for many ex-StarAc contestants, Universal released teh album without making significant efforts to promote it... Only th fans got their copy. I had to purchase it from Amazon as no copy seemed available in my record stores...
Prior to the album Mathieu released 2 singles. "J'te reconnais pas", his 1st post-SA single, is about his father, who left his mum when Mathieu was very young. he financed the video himself... "Petit Rat Petit Loup" is a frsh & tender duet with Lucie Bernardoni. None appear on the album.

In 2005 Mathieu released a autobiography "La Passion pour seul bagage". He told then he had been abused as a child. Since he released "Parle Hugo parle" to raise money for an association devoted to helping abused children.

IPB ImageIPB Image

Show: Star academy 1
Release date: 2011 - re-released 2012

Favourite songs: "Je danse" "les autocollants" "L'envers du paradis" "Le risque" "pas que ça à faire"
Least favourite songs: none

Winner of StarAc 1st season was criticised a lot for this album. The standard edition had only 10 tracks and fans felt robbed. Press gossiped on the fact she recorded the entire album in apparently a few weeks... I think peoplehave been too harsh. yes, lyrics are simple. Bu maybe this is the 80's teenager speaking here, but I like this electro-pop sound... If a english speaking artist had released it, comments might have been more positive... the album was released in 2011 in standard & deluxe edition and again as a limited tour edition in 2012 with an additional live CD.
After being a nice, but maybe too "fan" judge & mentor on The Voice, Jen is working on her next album. That will already be teh 5th one.

Louisy Joseph (Popstars 1) second album is out too. So far I prefer the 1st one, sounded more original.
