Getting tired of people not liking a contestant because of their ~crazy fan base.~ If you don't like a contestant, find legitimate things about them that you don't like, not their fanbase. And that's still different than thinking a contestant is "overrated," too. If I think, for example, Jessica is overrated by her fans, then I really don't see an issue with that. But if I say that I don't like her because her fans overrate her or because she has a rabid fanbase, I personally think that's a weak reason for not getting behind a contestant. It's like, why deny that someone has talent just because of their ridiculous fans? You don't have to personally like a contestant, but I think it's stupid to blame your dislike on someone based on who their fans are....and usually the fanbases that people attack have more than their fair share of decent fans, anyway... Not that this affects my life or anything, but I just had to say that.

have to agree.

the "i hate this contestants because of something that has nothing to do with the music or their personality" thing is strange.

annoying people are everywhere. move on.

As someone who's love for Haley, Siobhan, Adam and now Jessica has dwindled because of this, allow me to explain.

I admit that all 4 of them are talented (and 3 of the 4 are in my Top 70 Idols list on this forum), but I have a hard time liking someone when everything they do is declared THE GREATEST THING EVER when it's not. Jessica was bland this week on Idol, and yet 90% of the people on this forum still ranked her as #1, which inevitable leaves a bad taste in the mouths of people who disagree. I get that that's just their opinion, but there is little to no objectivity in saying that every week. And the judges are just as guilty. They keep saying that everything she touches turns to gold. Have they forgotten Turn The Beat Around? Have Haley fans forgotten the first half of her run? Have Siobhan fans forgotten the second half of her run?

So yes, in some senses, I find calling someone "flawless" when they not is annoying and it creates a certain stigma around that person. It's hard to separate the two.

I mean, god knows I'm not a fan of popular people (Lee DeWyze, Danny Gokey), but I don't declare everything they do as flawless. I just say, I get that they had bad performances, but I like them. Rabid, blind fanbases are annoying. That's all.

Lauren is the worst Top 2 finalist from S4-S10. Easily.

I'd put Scotty below her. That whole finale was a trainwreck though.
I don't care what people say about Lee, he outperformed most people during his season. The same cannot be said for Scoren.

It's easy. Remind yourself that if there wasn't a place to discuss opinions and all you do is hear the music, would you be a fan? I find it as an excuse to not like someone and not a very good one.

Every fan base has ppl that over rate them. Just cause some are more vocal and or more common where you frequent does nothing to negate the talent of the person that they are rating.

Won't happen tho. People are too personally involved. I'm guilty of the same thing. There are Idols I literally cannot stomach anymore because of their nasty rabid fans. And I can't think of them as separate from their fans either. It doesn't work. In fact, it's like the fanbase itself becomes the Idol. It's weird, but eh.

Meh, maybe some do...but not Haley for example. She barely uses twitter at all (which is one of the main ways for someone to ignite their fanbase), and I never see her saying anything that would remotely cause fans to go rabid. So while it's true in some cases, I really can't think of a specific example of someone that you're describing. (Adam maybe? idk)

I also get annoyed by Haley's fans sometimes. It's awkward and I try to ignore those situations.

I admit that Adam stans (post show) got to me but as the months ticked away, I went back to his music an enjoyed it again. Now, I just realize that every fan base has their crazies but that doesn't negate their talent. Sure Adam could say, and he has, to calm down on how dedicated you are...either they have listened or they cray cray have mostly moved on to someone else.
