The problem is that labels would try to push her for a pop career, and I'm telling you, she WILL fail if that happens.

What she should do is getting up with a producer to record an album. She'll have some money from the Idol stuff...and she could probably find someone in this field who rarely handles young singers with tons of publicity, and she could likely get someone on points.

So, record a Christmas album and shop it around for distribution. This works better for her because she can get a better financial deal than if she went all in with a label. The Christmas cd would likely be one of the big display items around the holidays on Best Buy endcaps, and they'd sell tons of them. The success of that would give her more stroke to work out a record deal for her original songs, and she could connect with good songwriters and such. Then she'd have plenty of time to work on that cd for release the following year.

It's a goldmine, I'm telling you.

I agree with you like 500%. She will not have a Jordin Sparks/Carrie Underwood-esque career. It ain't happening. I like your thoughts on how she should go like a female Michael Buble route and the Christmas album thing is an amazing segway into a first album.

Thanks!

Katie is not the type of artist who will be on MTV and Tiger Beat magazine covers...Instead, I see her as being big on the television commercial market.

First of all, that is a good marketing tool for both Christmas cds and standards type artists.

Secondly, once you take away the holiday and standards type releases...what artists do you see in those commercials?

I'll tell you...it's stuff like Celtic Woman, Charlotte Church etc...young girls/women who seem too hip to be doing the type of music they perform. It's using the youth/looks/hipness to drum up interest. So few young women do this type of stuff that whenever it happens, the sales are awesome.

Katie would fit this market perfectly. A Christmas album would be massive for her, and likely outsell any other Idol from this season.

I will say that once her original cd comes out, of the Michael Buble/Celine Dion mix...I would make sure to have one full out Idol style ballad for potential crossover success onto top 40 radio. Regardless, we're talking a hit cd.

She probably has a better chance of getting a contract and obtaining success if she goes country but from what it sounds like, that is simply not the direction she wants to go. I feel like she sounds the best when she sings stuff like OneRepublic or Sara Bareilles.

I agree...it seems like it is easier to get a contract in country. However, she made it very clear it wasn't the genre she wanted to pursue. Maybe it would be possible to talk her into Country songs that would cross over to Pop.

I was just sick when she was eliminated. I knew she wasn't going to win, but I was hoping she would finish
closer to the top. I didn't like her at first, but I was amazed how fast she improved and began to like her. I think she is bright and a quick study. I think people who think she should put out Christmas music or do cover songs are under estimating her. She is capable of putting out original music in the genre of her choice. I just hope she can somehow get a contract.
