"Pre-sales are through the roof", According to Rolling Stone AND Entertainment Weekly Options

I was just flipping through the latest issue of Rolling Stone (With Bono, Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen?? on the cover) and along with the Q&A they did with Adam, on page 28 there is an "assessment" of how they think Adam, Allison and Kris's albums will do in the market place.

I took down a few notes at the newsstand because I opted not to buy it. These are the things that stood out to me:

ADAM: Of course they think he's going to sell the most but they had a quote from a major music chain seller: "Pre-orders are through the roof", says Carl Mello of music chain Newbury Comics.


ALLISON: They talked to a Jive executive about how Allison is not nearly as visable as Adam and Kris but - with that in mind - they label projects that Allison should sell up to 75,000 copies her first week. So, they DO have record executives who project these kind of things based on the research and data they collect.

KRIS: They discussed is single sales and radio play as ok but not great. But an unknown radio programmer is quoted as saying "Kris is a viable artist."

I was also flipping through the latest Entertainment Weekly (Twilight cast is on the cover). They had an article about "Super Monday" and all of the artists with records coming out November 23rd.

This is what they said about Adam:

"A rep for Amazon.com tells EW that presales for that week are the highest of the year - and that Lambert has done better in pre-orders than any American Idol alum ever."

One thing that is on his side more certainly than any amount of preorder reports are musicians, composers, producers, music journals, ie, those people who have ears to hear with, and have probably heard more awful artists than I'd care to imagine. His existence must be a huge relief for them.

If his pre-orders are better than any Idol alum ever then that would include Kelly, Carrie and Daughtry. All arrows are pointing towards the album doing very well right now.

Not surprising - Looks like RCA/Sony has everything under control. Adam is poised for super stardom -- the signs are all pointing there.

Day to day stats that look at a slice of the sales are inconclusive and misleading.

Amazon sales through the roof, according to an Amazon rep, provides insight into what's really going on.

This info will be refuted by the gloom and doom element, but the negativity will die off the more evidence like this emerges.

Qualitatively, he can't be compared. I've been trying to educate myself on idols, and he really, really is in a different league.

A very stupid question I'm sure, but since I live in a country where I doubt Adam's album will be available, I'm thinking about buying the album from Amazon UK (I constantly buy goods from both Amazon US and UK just depending on the product and it always arrives without a fail) but if I buy it from Amazon UK it won't be counted as part of the sales in the US will it? .. since it's an import.

Clearly they are lying. Adam's career is ovah. I wonder what his numbers are on Amazon because they don't normally have a huge market. I remember reading that Norah Jones had pre sales that were the best selling ever a few years ago and her sales were somewhere between 30 000-50 000.

I'm surpised Allison's numbers are that high. I didn't think she would do 75 000. Her radio spins are bad.

And Kris, we'll know pretty soon how well he will do

Buy it from Amazon US to get the sales - I'm 99% sure UK won't count.
