No major surprises in ‘American Idol’ voting
He's been compared to Edward Cullen in "Twilight," and Adam Lambert proved his immortality, at least for now, by advancing to the "American Idol" finals.

'American Idol' Recap: Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Kris Allen Rock On; Normund Gentle Doesn'tJudges' favorite Megan Joy Corkrey and MTV favorite Nick 'Normund Gentle' Mitchell don't make the cut.
By Gil Kaufman
Views 5,655

America voted Wednesday night, and two things became clear: Voters were not nearly as charmed by "American Idol" wannabes Nick "Norman/Normund Gentle" Mitchell and Megan Joy Corkrey as we were.

But 25 million of them voted, and they did like up-from-nowhere 16-year-old firecracker Allison Iraheta, who was the first contestant to be swept into the "Idol" top 12 on Thursday night's results show. She was followed by surprise pick Kris Allen and self-styled Broadway rocker Adam Lambert.

Following a corny group-sing of Ne-Yo's "Closer," during which the remaining contestants mugged shamelessly for the camera, Iraheta reprised her version of Heart's "Alone," again nailing the tricky song's quiet-loud dynamics like a pro seasoned beyond her years and impressively working the stage in some killer red high heels. She then took the walk over to join the first top-three finishers, Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver. The news was not so good for her group-mates. Sultry Minnesota singer Jesse Langseth and welder Matt Breitzke were the first to be sent packing.

The next group of three included Megan Joy Corkrey and Kris Allen, whose cover of Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" got mixed reviews from the judges on Wednesday night, making him seem doomed to wither in fellow soulman Gokey's shadow, despite Cowell's quip that the girls were going to love his boyish good looks. Host Ryan Seacrest also brought down Matt Giraud, who was lambasted for his wobbly take on Coldplay's "Viva la Vida," and Jeanine Vailes, who showed off her gorgeous gams once more with a pair of short shorts.

No surprise, Vailes was quickly sent back to her bartending gig, followed by Giraud and, in the night's biggest shocker, tattooed mom Corkrey — who looked genuinely shocked and maybe even a little mad. That paved the way for Allen to make his way to the fifth top-12 slot.

Following a retrospective of some of the show's most memorable moments, season-seven finalist Brooke White returned to sing her new single, the 1970s-style, soft-rockin' piano ballad "Hold Up My Heart ," before the night's sixth seat was filled.

The final group included the too-stiff Mishavonna Henson, the too-safe Kai Kalama and the so-so Jasmine Murray, all of whom were quickly dispatched. That left the unlikely duo of comedian Nick Mitchell and musical-theater rock belter Adam Lambert standing center stage and looking like a pair of brothers-from-different-mothers in a high-concept Will Ferrell comedy. Cowell admitted to praying for several hours the night before that Mitchell, 27, whose outrageous shtick had turned into a Joaquin Phoenix-like viral sensation, would not make it through.

And those prayers must have worked, because Mitchell's improbable run finally ended. That meant Lambert could reprise his lip-curling, hair-flipping, Axl-channeling, banshee take on the Rolling Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." It was a bit of anticlimax for a show whose most dramatic moment came when the growing rift between Cowell and new judge Kara DioGuardi was laid bare after DioGuardi snapped, "Do you ever shut up?" following a series of interruptions from Cowell during one of her critiques.

The competition heats up again next Tuesday (March 3), when the third group of 12 finalists — Arianna Afsar, Felicia Barton, Kendall Beard, Ju'Not Joyner, Nathaniel Marshall, Kristen McNamara, Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, Jorge Nuñez, Von Smith, Taylor Vaifanua and Alex Wagner-Trugman — sing for a chance to join the first six. Then, on Thursday (March 5), the judges bring back their favorite singers for the wild-card round.

Cowell promised that some of Thursday night's castoffs — we're looking at you Megan Corkrey — might be among the judges' choices next week. "Maybe even a couple from tonight you're going to see again," Cowell hinted.

Get your "Idol" fix on MTV News' "American Idol" page, where you'll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions.

American Idol Semi-Finals Results 2: Goodbye Norman Gentle, Hello Adam Lambert!
I choose Adam Lambert. Loooong commercials. And then Adam, who, dare I say, is actually gayer than Norman Gentle, moves on to the Top 12. He'll probably be the first one kicked off--a la last year's gay stripper--once Focus on the Family weighs in. But for now, let's just enjoy the homosexual glory on my TV. haha.gif

'American Idol' Recap: Allison Iraheta, Adam Lambert, Megan Joy Corkrey Heat Up CompetitionNick 'Norman Gentle' Mitchell continues to ham it up and annoy Simon.
If "American Idol" wannabes don't know by now that song selection is more important than finding just the right sparkly shirt to wear on TV, then there's nothing the judges can do to help them.
Also killing it was show-closer Adam Lambert, 27, the musical-theater junkie who surprised everyone by bringing some Billy Idol/Axl Rose/ Elvis lip-curling swagger to the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction." Shaking his hips and sporting an all black ensemble pimped out with a fingerless glove and a neck full of chains, Lambert worked the stage like a pro, gave the camera a longing stare and ended his performance with a lens-shattering falsetto scream that got Cowell's attention.
Paula busted out a standing ovation and said she felt like she wasn't watching "Idol," but an "Adam Lambert concert." Simon said parts were "excruciatingly bad," but others were "brilliant." And Randy just loved it, calling Lambert the most current artist ever on "Idol." He compared Lambert to a mash-up of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, Fall Out Boy, "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson and My Chemical Romance.

Adam Lambert, Allison Iraheta Lead Woeful American Idol Auditions
The second round of semifinal auditions on American Idol was almost as much of a waste of two hours as this week's ridiculous special, The Bachelor: The Women Tell All.
Only two performances remotely stood out:
Adam Lambert closed the show with a rendition of The Rolling Stones' classic "Satisfaction." The judges were blown away, amazed that the singer could display such a range. We'd be shocked if he weren't voted through to the finals.
Watch his audition below:

American Idol
Idol: Rockers Allison Iraheta & Adam Lambert Rule the Night
There was a second eruption of hysteria when Adam Lambert, 27, closed the night with his almost terrifyingly slick run-through of “Satisfaction.” Paula, who has suppressed some of her dipsy-doodle charm this season, said he’d left behind American Idol and taken the nation to his own special Adam Lambert concert. Like a magic carpet ride! Randy compared him to Twilight cupcake Robert Pattinson and thirty or forty other celebrities. Simon, the realist, said the performance was both brilliant and excruciating but didn’t doubt that Adam would advance.

Headlines: Wicked's Adam Lambert Makes American Idol Top 12
With a high-octane performance of The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction," Adam Lambert secured his spot on the Top 12 of American Idol after a national vote, it was announced live on Fox-TV on February 26. The former cast member of Wicked in Los Angeles will now go on to compete for the top spot in Season 8 of the popular reality star search.
"You're in a league of your own," American Idol judge Paula Abdul cooed when Lambert performed the song live on the February 25 episode of the show. "You're one of the most current artists we've ever had on the show," judge Randy Jackson added. "[You're] like a combination of Steven Tyler meets Fall Out Boy meets Robert Patterson from Twilight."
Lambert appeared in the ensemble of the Los Angeles production of Wicked, where he also covered the role of Fiyero. Prior to joining Wicked, he was seen in The Ten Commandments at the Kodak Theatre, where he will now compete to be the next "American Idol."

Adam Lambert American Idol
Filed Under (Celebrity Gossip) by AprilNow that American Idol season 8 has kicked off people are going crazy over the show debating who will eventually win. Who knows who will win it’s way too early for all that talk. However people are very interested in one particular chap by the name of Adam Lambert. Who the heck is he and why should you care? He’s 26 years old and the judges are all raving about him. Maybe he might win? Only time will tell. Some people thik that he’s over-rated but that all comes down to personal taste.
I think Adam Lambert is actually got a pretty good voice, and beleive me, I’m hard to please. I also think he’s pretty cute which seems to be a pre-requistit for American Idol. In terms of his past career, he’s appeared in the LA production of Wicked. Oh, and he was also in the stage production of The Ten Comandments.

Adam Lambert Satisfies American Idol Judges, Viewers

Last night's American Idol was terrible. There's just no other way to put it.
The one contestant that stood out was Adam Lambert. He showed incredible range during a rendition of "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones.

Adam Lambert Leads Latest Trio of American Idol Finalists
Lambert and Iraheta were no-brainers, as they were the only two impressive contestants on Wednesday night's performance show.
Allen, however, was a slight surprise. He beat out Megan Joy Corkrey for the last spot.
Next week, a dozen more semifinalists will compete for three more spots in the competition's finals.
After that, American Idol is switching it up this season: the judges will pick the last three finalists as part of a special wild card round.

American Idol: Adam Lambert impresses almost all the judges!
Adam Lambert, a hot tip to win across the US, wowed all of the judges on last night’s American Idol– except Simon. While Paula Abdul told him “You’re in a league of your own. You’re leaving some people in the rear-view mirror”, Simon told him that “there were parts I thought were excruciatingly bad, and parts I thought were brilliant”, adding “this is going to be one of those love it or hate it things.

Adam Lambert Gets Satisfaction from Semifinal Audition
There were two big winners from last night's second round of semifinal auditions on American Idol.
Adam Lambert.
Anoop Desai. Allow us to explain:
Lambert put on the best performance - by far - of an otherwise woeful series of auditions. Yes, Allison Iraheta surprised the judges and the viewers. But Lambert was the true star.
He closed the show with a rendition of "Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones that Simon called "brilliant" and caused Paula to yammer something about how the nation was attending a special Adam Lambert concert.

Adam Lambert Satisfied American Idol Voters!
http://blog.imperfectparent.com/2009/02/26...an-idol-voters/

“American Idol”: Is Adam Lambert the next Taylor Hicks?
Adam Lambert: Wow! That was the twitchy exciting Taylor Hicks-y beautiful disaster of the night! I adore his voice and his energy, and he nearly pulled it off! I don’t think he’s dirty enough to sing “Satisfaction,” honestly. But he’s different, he came to bring a show, and he did it! I could watch him all night, because, like Taylor, I never know what he’s gonna do. Bravo, Pete Wentz Kid. Bravo.

Adam Lambert - The New Sensation on American Idol
He came in as the last singer on the night of forgettable performances by the rest of Group 2. His song was –I Can’t Get No Satisfaction- by the Rolling Stones.
Adam Lambert brought on a performance like a Superstar. There was so much excitement on that idol stage. He redeemed the lackluster night with one of the most memorable early performances by an idol finalist. Lambert is in a league of his own.
Whatever the outcome of the Idol competition is, Adam Lambert is on track to be a real major pop star.

Adam Lambert:Simon hit it right on the head when he said people were either going to love or hate Adam Lambert's performance. Make no mistake about it: I absolutely effing loved every second of it. His version of the Rolling Stones' "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" was so balls-out over-the-top that it made me both laugh and think, "Damn, that boy can sing!" at the same time. Also, I have to give props to a guy who was wearing more makeup than Paula and Kara put together. If he doesn't make it through tonight, I'm boycotting Idol. OK, maybe not, but I won't be happy watching a Lambert-less Top 12, that's all I've gotta say. He is the ultimate diva, and I am pulling for him for tonight.

American Idol Top 36: Week 2: Adam Lambert Satisfies
Adam Lambert: Adam is all about the musical theater -- and his experience really shows. He kind of looks like a punk rock Ewan McGregor. Like a Jedi academy dropout. He sings "Satisfaction" with real style and aplomb -- and it's like the professional has arrived and the little tennis-shoe-wearing dorks who preceded him were the amateur warm-up band. Very cool. Love him. He is my favorite. The judges rhapsodize about his greatness.
My picks:
Boy: Adam Lambert
Girl: Megan Joy Corkney
Third place: I really hope Allison Iroheta because she's so weird and twitchy. I also urgently hope for Nick Mitchell and his headbands. However, Matt Giraud and Kris Allen are judge favorites and may prevail. Let's hope Vote for the Worst can come through for us and put Normund Gentle into the finals. That would be truly, truly delightful.

16-Year-Old Allison Iraheta Blows Away American Idol Competition
The last American Idol hopeful on the Hollywood stage Wednesday night was Adam Lambert. In that first glance of Adam, when he was flirting with the camera at the beginning of his performance, I swear he looked just like Elvis Presley in the face. Tonight, after being named part of the American Idol top 12, I saw that face again. What the fetch? Was I the only one to catch that? Adam has a very powerful voice and was stylin' and profilin' Wednesday night. Simon Cowell made the comment that Adam was going to be either loved or hated. I, for one, cannot get past his theatrical experience. It sticks out like a sore thumb; however, Adam is now one of the top 12 American Idol hopefuls.

Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert make top 12; Simon asked God to send Norman home
American Idol 8 now has half of its top 12, as Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen, and Adam Lambert have joined the first three finalists. The other six will be added next week during the semi-final round’s conclusion and the wild card round, which has finally been explained.
Allison Iraheta seemed to be a lock, and Adam Lambert wasn’t a big surprise, either. Kris Allen, who looks like an older version of David Archuleta, made it through despite getting dissed by Kara, and while he seemed surprised, it wasn’t quite a huge upset.
More importantly, we learned that God is apparently tight with Simon Cowell, as Norman Gentle/Nick Mitchell went home. Simon said he “I prayed for about five or six hours non-stop, actually, last night, and I’m hoping me and God have a good relationship right now.”
Since Allison and Kris got their stool seats during the first half hour, producers had time to fill, which they did in part by re-airing the “Idol retrospective” from the audition rounds, because that’s what we really miss, the endless montages from the auditions. We apparently miss them so much that Seacrest begged us to stay tuned during the commercials to see “an unseen audition you don’t want to miss.” Um, I fast-forward through the actual show, and you honestly expect me to stick around during the commercials?

I find it interesting and kind of bizarre that a LOT of Adam's "people" are hatin' on him HARD (and I include Entertainment Weekly's Slezak in that equation).

You would think they would be thrilled that an openly gay contestant is doing so well on such a mainstream show like AI. I mean, WHERE'S THE LOVE?

And they say us chicks are catty. MEEEE-OW!!
