Concerning tonights brand new broadcast of Late Night with Conan O'Brien (NBC)

OK, Conie.

I have overlooked the couple of distasteful jokes you have done about Clay.

But, tonight, you just went over the top!

sad.gif

I hardly want to print what he said.

Conan was doing his autograph book bit. I had this FEELING that Clay was going to be featured, so I stood there watching.

UNFORTUNATELY, I was right.

In the bit, Conan pretends celebrities have been on the show and have signed his personal autograph book.

He ended the bit with this (I hope I got it right, feel free to correct as I was without a pen and paper and was quite frankly PO'd):

"And finally, Clay Aiken stopped by the show recently. That's right. Here is what he wrote in my book:

Thanks for having me on the show to promote my new album. It is the best 12 inches of plastic I have ever held in my hand.
Clay Aiken"

Then Conan closed the autograph book, and bit it, as he lowered his head to his desktop.

Then, he made some high pitched, jibberish sort of noises and said, "That is my impression of Clay Aiken."

Wild cheers from the crowd.

I have a weird sense of humor, but I think it is time to write a letter to Conan O'Brien!

Clay has become fodder for Conan's show. I am beginning to hate it.

Be a MAN, Conan and invite Clay on your show. Make it happen. Or is it you don't want to? Is it that you have rejected your own conservative, Irish Catholic upbringing and enjoy slamming a goodhearted person with morals like Clay?

Will this meeting of Conan and Clay happen "In the Year 2003. The Year 2003?"

MMT, Please please, pleeeeeeease write that letter. I know you would be able to write a good letter and at the same time be at least polite, so that Conan will know that Clay's fans are upstanding and loyal fans. We wouldn't want him or anyone to think we are just nuts and plain crazy. wacko.gif laughing.gif Cause you know what he would do with that, don't you?

I really don't think letters will help. These talk show hosts love to stir up controversy. They'll just keep doing it. It does look, however, as though Jay Leno has stopped the jokes since Clay has been on his show. That's good.

I like Jay, I live Dave, I watched Conan a few times, and he is funny......but he is also rude, and that's just not cool.

I think he is just jealous that he now has no chance of being Americas favorite red-head. tongue.gif

Jay is a class act compared to Conan. He stopped his Clay jokes before Clay even went on his show. They scheduled him in advanced and Jay knew this, so he stopped his jokes before Clay went on. Thanks Jay, you know when to fold 'em. thumbsup.gif

Ok you know what........

All this time, since Kimmel cracked his first petty jab, and from then on when every single night a comedian has bashed OBC I've let it just roll off. I figured Clay probably doesn't give a rat's behind so why should I? It's gotten tougher lately with Conan, who I once thought respectable, but still I've maintained with my mission to not care. Now I care. I'm so pissed off about this, but probably for different reasons than most. I hate the fact that the media and celebrities like Conan and Kimmel are so determined to find something 'wrong' with Clay - the fact that he's a genuine, sincere, amazing and inspiring new artist on the scene is too much for these people to handle; they can't accept the fact that someone who actually deserves all the praise he's receiving is so successful and they are so threatened by him and all he represents that they jump at the chance to be their ignorant selves and insult him about something that's so blatently untrue. It's as if no one can believe someone as (near) perfect as Clay has made it big, so they grasp onto something as quickly as they can to demote his status and make him flawed, which of course, is completely mindless since your sexual preference doesn't make you any less of a person, nor does it affect they way people see you as a human being or as a man for that matter, especially when it comes to Clay and his fans. I hate ignorant people. I hate people who thrive off the demeaning of others and think it's okay to beat a dead horse into the ground for so long that people only laugh out of habit or misunderstanding. I hate the fact that these losers can't just let Clay be Clay.

You said it Laur - disappear for while, would ya? angry.gif

I have tried to say to myself, it is just a joke. And in an indirect way, if you are part of someone's joke, at least you are popular enough to warrant being put up there.

One thing can be said. Conan never has to explain who Clay Aiken is! No mention of "that American Idol runnerup." That means Clay has arrived . No explanation necessary.

Yes, if we come across as fanatical Clay fans, Conan will use that for further fodder for the show. Wouldn't want to give him fuel for his fire!

I am starting to feel sorry for Liza Minnelli. She and Rush Limbaugh are in the frying pan now too. Wonder what that is like to be the butt of nationally televised jokes. But some of them have done some things that have drawn attention to themselves.

Wonder how Clay feels about being joked about.

You know, if it was about his hair, or something other than something as personal as sexual orientation, I would probably not take up arms.

But I am ready now! angry.gif

Uh you guys might be blowing this a bit out of proportion. I'm sure that Conan doesn't feel at all threatened by Clay, considering he's got a hit show, won several Emmys, and has a brand new baby. I'm sure Conan's pretty happy with his life. He's just joking. Don't tell me that none of you have ever laughed at a joke at the expense of someone else? A Michael Jackson joke? A Kobe Bryant joke? Liza Minnelli? Richard Gere? J-Lo and Ben? Britney Spears? Arnold Schwarzenegger?etc. Clay is as fair game as any of these people I just mentioned.

Yeah but see.....that's just what I mean....all of those people have done something.....stupid, or just...something that is easy to make fun of. Clay is just being himself....he hasn't done anything to make him in the tabloids, he hasn't been divorced, or had a scandal or anything (knock on wood) so that is why Conan shouldn't have a reason to make fun of him....but I think for that exact reason, the reason that he hasn't done anything wrong, that's what makes Conan joke about him so much. My question is, since when is it wrong to be a nice person? Clay is just being nice, and he's getting heck for it.

conan makes fun of everybody.. so i dont think conan has anything personally against clay.. he just is makin jokes because clay is popular right now. so in some weird way, its kind of flattering that conan mentions clay like he does, and u know most of the ppl in the audience dont agree..theres been many times when hes said something mean about clay and no one laughed. i didnt think what he said was funny at all, but probably if it was about someone i didnt like as much i would've.. so no matter what, even if it would've been said about someone else, the same response would've been given

You have a point....the people I mentioned were made fun of because of something they did. But you also mentioned "something that is easy to make fun of". Well, it's no secret that Clay acts effeminate -even he says that- and acting that way translates to most people as being "gay", like it or not. It's the same thing as Ruben. The only thing comedians can think of when they make fun of Ruben is his weight, since it's the "something that is easy to make fun of".

You guys should actually be flattered that comedians always say Clay is gay. After all, they've said that about Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, Leonardo DiCaprio, and a million other hot guys. thumbsup.gif

Total ditto on what you guys said!

I know we all laugh at the expense of others. But these other folks mentioned have done something bizarre (Michael Jackson-no explanation needed), possibly criminal (Kobe Bryant, not saying he is guilty or not guilty here, Liza beating husband), drug-related (Rush and Liza), etc.

But I feel like Clay's personhood is being attacked.

You are right. Jay Leno took a huge step back from the Clay jokes. I think he was really surprised how many fans Clay has. And to meet Clay is to know him, to know him is to like him and have a new respect for him.

I truly believe there is something there about Conan going after Clay because he is so moral, clean and true. Conan seems to be a really decent guy, but a lot of off-color stuff comes out of his mouth.

Now, if I see Conan do the bit where he pretends school children have drawn him pictures of what they saw when they visited Late Night, and he has some kind of crass picture of Clay and says some 3rd grader from some elementary school drew it, I am going to lose my mind! wacko.gif

Sorry, I feel defensive of Clay. It is the nurturing spirit coming out! rolleyes.gif

No I have not laughed at a joke at the expense of someone else. I only laugh at jokes that are funny. I do NOT find poking at someone's integrity or humanity or sexual preference funny at all. Do you?! Huh

And NO, I do not think Clay is fair game. I agree with Claytastic7. He's just being nice and the best that he could be so he does not deserve this. I do think Clay let's comments like this roll off his back, BUT at the same time, he does have feelings and I'm sure they are affected by all these crude comments. One can only take so much. Clay is a sensitive crying.gif individual and he does not need all of these crude comments for what some people call "laughing at humor" that is bull. angry.gif

Oh my crying.gif I am picturing Clay right now when he was on Primetime when he was on the verge of tears talking about his father. This wonderful sensitive man does not deserve this.

I am NOT flattered in the least. What kind of sick humor do you have? Sorry but I just find that picking on someone's way of life or sexuality is not funny at all, especially when Clay has done nothing to deserve this sick sense of humor. And we all know that Clay is not gay, but there are many people that just can't make up their minds on whether or not he is gay and we don't need someone like Conan to sway them to his way of thinking. I just think that is plain crude.

What kind of sick humor do I have? Obviously the same "sick humor" millions of other people have in this country. Jeez, lighten up. What I meant from saying this was that since good looking male celebrities tend to be called gay because of their good looks, then saying that Clay is gay actually insinuates that these comedians are admitting that Clay is good looking.

Honestly, so many people in here get so bent out of shape when someone says the slightest, smallest negative thing about Clay. getlost.gif Clay's just a nice guy with a great voice. He's not untouchable.

<SNORT> I'm in just the RIGHT mood to write a letter. Here is what I just emailed to them. If anyone else is interested in emailing them their address is LateNight@nbc.com

To The "Writers",

I have been a faithful viewer of Late Night With Conan O'Brien since day one. Lately, the writers have decided that it's fun to pick on the VERY TALENTED and MULTI PLATINUM RCA RECORDING ARTIST Clay Aiken. The "jokes" are downright distasteful and mean spirited.

What's that you say? The "jokes" get laughs? Perhaps they do. But are those few cheap laughs really worth losing thousands (perhaps hundreds of thousands) of viewers over? Are they worth losing AD REVENUE over because viewers are sick and tired of your childish & mean spirited ways and have decided to BOYCOTT your sponsors? I doubt it.

This 35 yr old, intelligent, well educated female has had more than enough of your garbage. I'll be watching Craig Kilborn or taking a complete pass on late night TV, from here on out.

Oh and by the way, Clay's debut CD "Measure of a Man" sold 613,000+ copies in it's first week DEBUTING at #1 on Billboard last week. That's more than any other debut solo artist has sold in the last TEN years. He sold 225,000+ copies this week for a total of 838,000+ copies in just 2 weeks keeping it at #1 on Billboard AGAIN this week. Furthermore, it is expected to reach 1 million in sales by next week and is expected to STAY at #1 on Billboard for yet ANOTHER week.

What exactly have YOU accomplished? Oh yeah, I forgot, you write disgusting and distasteful "jokes" for a living.....nice life you've got going there.

Khrystah Montgomery
Disgusted Former Fan

I'm really tired and really po'd right now. I swear if one of them was in front of me right now I'd slap the s*** out of them. angry.gif pinch.gif sleep_1.gif

Thanks for the email addresss Krystah!

Time for a letter to Conie.

Ah, how about the slant, "Would you enjoy seeing baby Neve being chewed up and spit out on a late night show in about 20 years? How about that, Daddy Conan?"

I won't write that. I will try to be restrained and tasteful.. Mighty hard this time though!
