I think that the play on words is intentional. Chris has an afro. It was a well known fact that if he ever made it on the show he would call his fan club 'Fro Patro'.

I agree. I think you'd be supporting him better by giving him an original fan club name, rather than making him seem like a copy of Taylor Hicks.

I'm doing exactly what Chris wants, as I have spoken with him and FroPatrol has extensive knowledge of Chris as well. As Fro pointed out, Chris's blog states that he wants his fanbase to be called Fro Patrol.

I don't know if knowing that Chris wants his fanclub to be called Fro Patrol and ignoring his wishes is doing a good thing for him.

First off, if anyone can come up with a better name for a group, I'm sure that Chris would be more than happy. Chris specifically said, however, on his blog that the name was a take-off of Soul Patrol. I don't think it's a bad thing, and Chris is completely different from Taylor that I don't think anyone will get them mixed up.

Anyway, I saw a commercial that showed - I think - a split second of Chris coming out of the room with his golden ticket. You see his afro and then his wife jumps onto him, then the commercial cuts to the next scene. It's the one that shows Taylor winning then cuts to who's next kind of thing. It may not have been him, but it looked a lot like him.

Well, I'm almost pretty sure that if this name sticks, there will be plenty of soul patrollers that are not happy with it.

All right, for now the group will be called Fro Patro'.

However, let's start a list of possible names for the fan club. Chris may have his desires, but ultimately the fans will make the decision on the name of his fan club. So, everyone who sees this thread, do this:

1) Go to www.myspace.com/halfpastforeverband and listen to all 4 songs on the site. This will give you a pretty good idea of Chris's abilities as a singer. Now, it should be noted that his band is a rock band, but Chris does NOT consider himself a RAWKER. He is a singer who loves rock and roll, but basically has a degree in classical voice, and has moved slowly from acoustic to pop to rock. So, take into consideration that this music might not be exactly how he sings on the show.

2) As you listen to the music, think about another fan club name. I still start a list here with new name ideas.

3) Remember that no one even knows if Chris made the top 40, nonetheless the top 24, so don't be too disappointed if the fan club goes away after the final 24 airs. However, it will be fun to see if people can come up with creative names, so FIRE AWAY!!!

Im not that impressed by his voice

Well, as I said before, if you're expecting vocal gymnastics, you won't get it from Chris's band's music. Chris is classically trained and has understudied in several operas and knows how to sing. He also has won national contests for his vocals & for his songwriting. However, if you read Chris's blogs, he even admits that his voice is not the most elastic, but he has great tone and great pitch. (BTW, Chris's band uses very little auto-tune for the person who has made the comment about his voice being "pro-tooled") Also, Chris's band is a rock band - there's a lot less "real singing" done with that form of music than with pop music. Just pointing that out - don't make a complete judgement on his voice off of the band's music.

Anyway, the whole thing about American Idol is that the show is not a singing competition. That's why every year the "best singers" (like Pia this year, if it's true) get cut. Singing is only about 25% of it. Personality, backstory, etc. is the other parts that makes up the show. Taylor was about the 20th best singer in Hollywood last year, but he won because he was a performer and he had personality. And I think most people would agree that Sligh has a better "voice" than Taylor does...no disrespect meant to Taylor, but we don't know how good a performer that Chris is. What we do know, at least from early reports is that he has a lot of personality.

So, I would have to disagree that Chris doesn't have the voice to be a "winner".
