I was listening to Z100 and i heard both Clay and Ruben's studio version of their singles. There were good....but not great...i was actually extrememly dissapointed. I'm a big Clay fan and i couldnt even hear him very well. It barely even sounded like him ...I just couldnt hear his beautiful natural voice. It sounded like a studio version...and very much edited. There was also a new verse in Clay's song and i couldnt even understand what he was singing so i still dont know the words. I can pick up words to songs very quickly and i just couldnt get them. I liked Ruben's song a lot but at first i didnt even recognize that it was him singing. I dont get why but both songs didnt sound like the Clay and Ruben that we have learned to love. I'm hoping that they are preliminary versions but i dont think they are. Have you guys heard the new versions? What did you think? I dont think i'm the only one who is thinking like this.

well i heard it too -- he's definitely got more energy live. But this is the first thing he's put out and they haven't had a whole lot of time to mix it. Hopefully the post-production gurus over there at RCA will have another day or two to tweak it before it actually goes to press... It did NOT sound like a finished product to me (I studied production in school, have done some of it myself, and have an ear for it). Even if it is it's a very quickly-produced single. Kelly has new mixes of her singles on her CD....
It'll all turn out just fine --------------------

Wow, I didn't here it, but I hope that was just a rough mix. Geez, Clay's voice is too pure to merit over-editing. Now, some artists, such as Britney Spears need extra editing because their voices just aren't strong enough. Hmmm...I wonder how far she would have made it on AI2? *ponders*

That reminds me of the MTV music awards when Kelly Osbourne sang "Papa Don't Preach." Did you here how much they had to shift the pitch at the beginning of the song? She was sooo off. That's what I like about AI, there's no pitch-shifting, it's just raw talent.

yea. it's so rare that there are really good singers anymore. i like AI because at least you know on there the singers are good and there is no voice changing and over edit and stuff.

Britney Spears.... :tard:
about Clay's single.... HOW COULD THEY DO THAT!!! *sigh* did they edit Kelly's as well? cos her "miss Independent" does not sound like it was edited... The producers really spoiled the songs on the AI2 Love Songs CD... -------------------- |

i was always fearful the studio would mess with Clay's pure voice and make it sound less than perfect. He is quite good in his live performance. I thought the BOTW version on Regis was great also, almost as good as when he first sang it on AI. I heard the studio version of This Is The Night and he sounds more toned down than the live performance, less passion or urgency in his voice.
Why do studios have to muffle a powerhouse vocalist? The Power is what drove us to him in the first place... -------------------- |

omg, i know. clay's voice is so great anyway. they should leave well enough alone! clay's voice is great the way it is. he's one of the few artists ive heard that can sing just as well (if not better) live as in the studio. (that that is saying something)

definitely a rough cut... its mixed too hot to have been through post-production... you can hear them adjust the mix in a couple places... if they rein in the choir and lower Clay's mids a bit, it will sound more like OUR Clay! Oh, and drop out the reverb just a touch...lol. It's more noticeable on the choir, but its there... and not really necessary.

The thought that they will fool with his voice is upsetting. Do you think the version out June 10 could possible be changed at this point in time?

10 days.
I'm not an expert, but I'm hoping it can be done. Clay's sang these songs before, so memorizing the words won't be a problem. The problem is singing it in a much louder and powerful style. ... or they can get rid of the choir ... or some of the choir :-? -------------------- |

I just downloaded Clay's studio version Bridge and it isn't too bad, though I prefer the live performance. There was an energy and excitement to it live. Producers could have saved studio fees and simply used the live copy of this great performance to slap on B-side of This Is The Night - watch the sales pour in...
Clay's dynamic vocals seem to get washed into the choir at the end of many verses. You get the feel he is singing it extra careful, enunciating every syllable. I miss the southern "wa-tuuur" from the impromptu live version. But as the most critical part of this new version approached, I held my breath - the last ending note. Would I still get the same chills at its peak? YES! He did again! Means big bucks coming Clay's way! Overall, still should do very well - the choir sounds bigger than ever. I agree with other posts here that less choir is more when it comes to Clay's forefront radiant vocal power. -------------------- |

I also hope that there isn't much done to Clay's voice. I love listening to his live performances, more than the ones he has recorded. About Britney Spears. Did anyone watch the Mickey Mouse Club television show when she was on it? That girl could sing! It wasn't in the register she's singing (or attempting to sing) now, but with a great alto voice. She was actually good. I don't know why she started singing in this other voice. She might have made it into the top 32, even the top 12 (think Carmen) for commerical reasons, but not much farther.

Which song are y'all talking about? (Erschweitz, et al). BOTW or TITN? I heard the studio version of TITN, and maybe I am very optimistic but this couldn't possibly be the finished product... could it? I'm very hesitant to hear the studio version of BOTW.
