Yep! Its great, personally her music style was much better than Angel Eyes. Did MiXX ever release a CD?? Ive had a look around at a few stores here in Sydney but found nothing.

Have you heard their music from their site? I listened to it aaages ago but I remember it was fantastic.
Can't wait to see what in store for the next album! But I very much still love Angel Eyes and Where You Are and One Determined Heart and a few other tracks off her first album.

Well none of my Guy and Paulini photos turned out - they were all dark - sorry I am a complete idiot when it comes to photography and so I am gonna leave it to the experts from now on but I was able to salvage these two by auto-enhancing to try and lighten them up



This one is just before Paulini leaves the stage on the night of the final Beautiful Life concerts and in the right hand corner are the big bunch of flowers that are going to be given to her before she leaves for the very last time this tour

Paulini shot to fame in Australian Idol. What most people don’t know is that her standing in Christ gave her the confidence to face and endure the tough world of entertainment as she reveals in this interview with the Rev. The Hon. Dr. Gordon Moyes recently screened on Channel Nine’s Turn ‘round Australia.

Dr Moyes: Let me introduce to you one of Australia’s best known Christian singers, Paulini Curuenavuli. Welcome to our program, Paulini.

Paulini: Thank you.

Dr Moyes: Of course we got to know you through Australian Idol, didn’t we? Before that, however, you were very much still a singer, at church, at home, and at school.

Paulini: Yes, I did start singing at church as I grew up in a Christian family and joined the children’s choir in our church and then went on to the praise and worship team.

Dr Moyes: You come from a big family?

Paulini: A very big family with six kids.

Dr Moyes: You were shy though, weren’t you?

Paulini: Very.

Dr Moyes: Your dad had to really help you and push you out there.

Paulini: He did. I remember he would tell me that he would buy me a bike if I sang at church.

Dr Moyes: And a bike did it!

Paulini: Yes!

Dr Moyes: You can claim a higher price these days, I imagine.

Paulini: Not really… not a huge amount, but yes, things are going well. God has blessed me.

Dr Moyes: Paulini, you did have an earlier contact with Wesley Mission when you did some work experience?

Paulini: Yes, I did. In year 10 I did some work experience and I went to the Wesley Institute. That really opened my eyes. I was able to see the different talents and see the different races of people in the choir. It was just amazing.

Dr Moyes: They remember you too. When you were on Australian Idol they kept saying that you had sung with them!

Paulini: It was such an amazing experience. I had always wanted to go to a music school so having the experience to actually meet some of the people who worked at the Wesley Institute was an amazing thing.

Dr Moyes: When you were on the first Australian Idol we gradually saw people slip away but I had two good people in mind — I had yourself and also Guy Sebastian. Did you two have a bond because you were both Christian?

Paulini: We definitely did. When we had to all move in to the house it was stressful and there was a lot of competition.

Dr Moyes: Bitchiness?

Paulini: Yeah because not everyone knew about God and so they didn’t understand. Guy and I really did have a lot in common and were supportive of each other because we believe in the same God.

Dr Moyes: You both worship the same God and are living out a Christian life.

Paulini: Exactly.

Dr Moyes: Both of you came under a lot of criticism.

Paulini: Yes, we did.

Dr Moyes: Why do you think that happened?

Paulini: I think, as you said before, everyone has their own opinions of things and they can say whatever they want, and I think a lot of it had to do with their low self esteem and envy and jealousy.

Dr Moyes: I remember on one occasion when they picked on you because of a gold dress you wore. It was really bad.

Paulini: Yeah, it was.

Dr Moyes: You were quite young so you were totally inexperienced for this type of criticism.

Paulini: It was a big shock for me. I was standing there thinking “Oh no, Lord, what is happening?”

Dr Moyes: Not only was it a shock to you but within the Fijian culture that doesn’t happen.

Paulini: No, it doesn’t.

Dr Moyes: Families are protective and supportive but out there you were almost naked.

Paulini: Yes, I’ve grown up with a family which accepts a lot and our religion accepts. You have to love yourself. So it was really weird that I got criticised about how I looked.

Dr Moyes: Yes, I remember. Did you detect any racism during all that?

Paulini: No, they criticised everyone at some point. With shows like that the judges always act that way.

Dr Moyes: Did it blow you away though when you went home that night? Did you burst into tears?

Paulini: I did.

Dr Moyes: I can understand that — it is quite normal.

Paulini: I went home and spoke to mum and she said I shouldn’t take it to heart. I wasn’t born to be thin and I absolutely love the way I look and everyone is different.

Dr Moyes: However, there was a huge outpour in your favour. It worked for you.

Paulini: Exactly. The next week I didn’t end up down the bottom.

Dr Moyes: After all that you and Guy teamed up together and did a big tour of Australia singing everywhere.

Paulini: We went to all the capital cities, all the different States, and now we are doing a tour where we are more in the suburbs and in the clubs.

Dr Moyes: So you have a career which is going well. Immediately after Idol you recorded a CD and that went really gang-busters.

Paulini: That went really well. I got so much support from people. It was such a blessing.

Dr Moyes: You have just arrived back in Australia having been in the UK and USA and you have been recording another CD. A number of the songs on it you wrote yourself.

Paulini: I wrote four or five songs on the album.

Dr Moyes: When will it be released?

Paulini: The first single comes out in July. And if it goes well I will then be on the road touring.

Dr Moyes: So you will be promoting that around Australia and overseas as well?

Paulini: Hopefully

Dr Moyes: We wish you well, and anyone who has had to come up a hard way and felt the stones being thrown deserves all the encouragement we can give you. We support you, we pray for you and we wish you well and every success in the future.

Paulini: Thank you.

We lurve getting mail around here, especially when it's from one of our favourite singers and they've just made a new album! Here Paulini talks about touring with Guy, HN and Tina Arena, as well as recording (and shopping) in Spain, London and LA...


Hey!

How's everyone doin? I'm so sorry I have not been in touch with all of you for a while, I hope everyone is well! Life has been absolutely awesome for me lately, I've been so busy and had so many amazing experiences over the past few months; I have been especially blessed and fortunate enough to work and tour with some of Australia's great artists.

Firstly, as you know, I toured with Human Nature. I learned so much from these amazing four guys - like being on time to everything and learning what you want as performer. Then I toured with the amazing Tina Arena, who we all know is one of the most amazing female vocalists ever! Tina taught me that women can be and do what they want in life, if they only put their minds to it.

Most recently, I toured with a good friend of mine who I've admired from the day I met him - Guy Sebastian. All I can say is that he's going to be a huge international star one day!!

Half way through the Guy tour, I received some incredible news - my management and record company told me that I was going to record my second album and I was going to record it overseas in Spain, UK and the US. I just couldn't believe it!! When they said LA, I nearly fainted, hahaha. I was determined to really nail this album and make it sound different from everything else (so I knew that all my travelling nerves that were floating around my mind had to go!).

When I landed in Malaga, Spain, the weather was cold but it was such a beautiful & memorable night - the people and the streets were buzzing and everyone was so kind and very helpful (I couldn't speak Spanish). The following morning, I went straight into the studio and was putting vocals down on two tracks. Spain is absolutely gorgeous but I was only there for 12 days and unfortunately was working the whole time.

Then I was off to London - it was such an eye-opener for me. The amount of people that were there and how multi-cultural the city was took my breath away! I actually liked the weather - it was chilly but I was enjoying myself so much that I forgot it was cold! The next day, it was straight to the studio again for me and it was a quick four day stop there before heading to LA.

LA is pretty much THE entertainment capital of the world - every person I met was there to make it big. It was so multicultural and so busy - some how things seem to move a lot faster there! If you want to shop till you drop, LA the place to do it and its cheap too! But as we all know, there's definitely no place like home... coming back to Sydney, seeing my family and friends always cheers me up!

Guys, thank you all so much for your support, it has kept me going! I've read as many emails as I can and your letters have all encouraged and inspired me to keep following my dreams.
