I never said he was gone. I said that the Pirates are showing interest, but they're only agreeing on 10 million dollars, and the Yankees want a bit more cause we still owe him like 33 million dollars. X_X

Phoenix - Friday marks the four-week mark since Ryan Braun's arbitration hearing ended and still no decision on his appeal of a positive drug test.

So much for that 25-day time period prescribed by the MLB drug policy for the three-man panel to rule whether Braun will serve a 50-game suspension to begin the 2012 season.

The Brewers' pitchers and catchers report to camp Saturday, take physical exams on Sunday and have their first official workout Monday morning. Thus, camp will open for the Brewers without a decision on Braun's appeal of a positive drug test in October. His appeal was heard by a three-man arbitration panel in New York City on Jan. 19-20.

Despite the recommendation that the panel of independent arbitrator Shyam Das, players union director Michael Weiner and MLB vice president Rob Manfred "shall make all reasonable efforts" to render a decision within 25 days, that time frame passed at the beginning of the week.

Brewers position players are scheduled to report to camp next Friday and work out the next day. Thus, the expectation is that the decision will be made before Friday so Braun and the Brewers know his fate before he comes to camp.

Many people have wondered if the longer the decision is delayed, the better chance that Braun would become the first major-league player to have a positive test overturned. It's my understanding that nothing should be read into the delay other than it has taken more time than expected to wade through all the evidence and testimony. But Braun's camp did initially say the test involved "highly unusual circumstances," so this could be a very complicated case to judge.

Even if Braun is suspended, he will be allowed to fully participate in spring training, including exhibition games. The suspension would go into effect on opening day, when Braun would not be allowed to be in uniform during games.

OMFG!! The Pirates are taking AJ Burnett!!!

Pittsburgh reeled in A.J. Burnett from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Exicardo Cayones and right-handed reliever Diego Moreno. The penultimate act of the saga will be the approval of Commissioner Bud Selig, who has to sign off on the deal because it includes $20 million from the Bombers.

In other words, the Pirates absorbed $13 million of the two years and $33 million remaining on Burnett's contract. The annual commitment is considerably below the $10 million one-year offers the Bucs had made to a pair of free agents, Edwin Jackson and Roy Oswalt.

Braun: yes he should be allowed all preseason stuff. As long as they prepare like he will be gone for 50 days, all should be fine in either case. If it does happen I prefer it the first 50 games as the players themselves don't go all out those games anyways so as long as the team is in the hunt, there's no reason that they can't come back for the other 112 games. If he doesn't get suspended the will hav a player or 2 more prepared in case of injury to Braun or anyone else.
