DUMB AND DUMBERER: WHEN HARRY MET LLOYD Neither Jim Carrey nor Jeff Daniels is in this prequel to the 1994 comedy hit "Dumb and Dumber." Derek Richardson and Eric Christian Olsen play the virtually brainless best pals earlier in life, in high school. With Eugene Levy, Cheri Oteri and Luis Guzmán. Directed by Troy Miller, who has done television and the dreadful "Jack Frost."

FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY Those "American Idol" stars, Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson, do a beach picture. Directed by Robert Iscove.

THE HARD WORD Maybe someday there will be one last movie about one last heist, but for now here's another. Guy Pearce and Rachel Griffiths star in this crime drama about three Australian bank robbers out on bail planning a new venture, a multimillion-dollar job in Melbourne. But things go wrong, and their lawyer turns out to be a master manipulator. With Damien Richardson, Robert Taylor and Joel Edgerton. Scott Roberts directed.

THE HEART OF ME Helena Bonham Carter makes such a good period bohemian ("Howards End" comes to mind). She's playing that type again in this prewar, wartime and postwar romance based on Rosamond Lehmann's novel about her affair with the poet laureate C. Day Lewis (father of Daniel Day-Lewis). Olivia Williams plays her sister, and Paul Bettany is the sister's husband, with whom Ms. Bonham Carter's character also has an affair. Lots of deception, betrayal, manipulation and seduction. Directed by Thaddeus O'Sullivan.

HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE Harrison Ford and Josh Hartnett as "old cop, young cop" buddies investigating the murder of an entire rap group. This is a crime-action comedy-drama from Ron Shelton, who usually concentrates on the world of sports. He wrote the script with Robert Souza, a veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. Mr. Ford's and Mr. Hartnett's characters moonlight in other careers, and the veteran thinks the newcomer is spending too much time on yoga classes and auditions. With Lena Olin and Isaiah Washington.

JET LAG ("Décalage Horaire") A French comedy about an unlikely couple who meet at a Paris airport. She (Juliette Binoche) is a beautician headed for Mexico, running away from a bad relationship; he (Jean Reno) is a businessman running toward a woman in Munich. She's open and he's normally withdrawn, but stresses like flight delays can bring people together. Directed by Daničle Thompson, who wrote and directed the 1999 charmer "La Bűche."

MANITO A Latino family drama that won a special jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival for its ensemble cast. The film is also about Washington Heights, a Manhattan neighborhood in transition from crack market to vibrant community. One brother, Junior (Franky G., who is also in "The Italian Job," "Wonderland" and "Confidence" this season), is probably a lost cause. But there's hope for Manny (Leo Minaya, making his film debut). Eric Eason wrote and directed his first feature film.

THE NAZI OFFICER'S WIFE A documentary from Rory Kennedy ("American Hollow") and Liz Garbus ("The Farm: Angola U.S.A."). The story of Edith Hahn, a young Jewish woman who passed for Aryan during World War II. Born in Vienna, she obtained fake identity papers, ran away to Munich, married and even gave birth to a daughter in a Reich hospital. Susan Sarandon narrates; Julia Ormond does Ms. Hahn's voice. Ms. Hahn, who is in her late 80's, lives in Israel.

NO TURNING BACK The story of a widowed father, an illegal immigrant from Honduras, who wants to make a better life for his little girl. Jesus Nebot stars as the father, who, while rushing to pick up his daughter, has a car accident that takes a child's life. Knowing he'll be deported if caught, the man decides to make a run for it with his daughter (Chelsea Rendon), but both journalists and law enforcement officers are on his trail. Mr. Nebot and Julia Montejo wrote and directed.

RUGRATS GO WILD The Rugrats, Nickelodeon's adorable animated babies, have tried to return a newborn to the hospital and have gone to Paris on the big screen. Now, in their third film, they meet their Nickelodeon colleagues the Wild Thornberrys, who travel the world. It begins when a cruise ship crashes, leaving the babies on a desert island, where Tommy must guide them through the rain forest. Directed by Norton Virgien and John Eng. With the usual celebrity voices, including Bruce Willis as Spike the dog.

TROUBLE IN PARADISE From the great Ernst Lubitsch, jewel thieves in love, until the male thief starts paying too much attention to their pretty next victim. Herbert Marshall, Miriam Hopkins and Kay Francis star in this witty 1932 piece of froth, which begins a three-week Lubitsch festival at Film Forum.

TYCOON ("Oligarkh") Russia's take on "The Godfather." The true story of Boris Berezovsky (now called Platon), who became fabulously rich by treating the end of the Soviet Union as one big (shady) capitalist opportunity. He and his friends drop out of college and dig right in. Based on the novel "Bolshaya Pajka" ("The Big Slice") by Yuli Dubov. Vladimir Mashkov stars. Directed by Pavel Lounguine.
