Sorry if there's already a topic about it,but Kurt reached the 25th place in Uk Top 40..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/totp/top40/singles_part2.shtml

"Talking of Euro artists, what a surprise that World Idol winner Kurt Nilsen didn't fair better with 'She's So High'. The song has been a hit all over Europe and was No.1 in Kurt's home country of Norway. " -totp

I really think it's because it's a cover of a song that was out not that long ago.

Obviously, I'm no record executive, but I think they needed to put out something new, and not "idol" related. If cpugh2004 is right, there's no way to go but down. I hope not.

I saw on the TOTP boards that 7 years ago, No Mercy was on with Please Don't Go. I played that tape so much it stretched out (literally), but I LOVED Where do You Go? Those were both on the same album and then we never heard from them again. I really don't think that will happen to Kurt, because he seems to have a strong base in Germany as well as Norway. What about Sweden or Denmark? I haven't heard anyone mention anything going on with him there.
The blurb does say that SSH was a hit in other European countries. How did he do and where?

I thought I was just saying that you are probably right, but that I hope not. What's wrong with that?

She actually said "there's no way to go but down". She didn't say it will climb. ermm.gif

Anyway, 25 isn't that good, but it's alright for a cover song from a random guy from Norway.
Kelly's "Miss Independent" got to number 6, while "Low" only got to number 35.

Cheque out this URL address to see how SSH did in other countries in the top 40's charts:

top40-charts.com/song.php?sid=9405&sort=chartid&string=Kurt

Whats interesting is that with the exception of Belgium where it debuted at number 9, and Norway of course, it doesn't look like SSH did any better in other countries than it did in the UK, at least in terms of where it debuted. In the Netherlands it debuted at number 33, though the next week it went up to number 22. In Germany it debuted at number 25, and in New Zealand at number 38 (there's no mention of other countries). So I don't quite know why people are declaring that Kurt's single is a dismal failure in UK, when you see how it started in other countries. Look at Germany, it debuted at exactly the same place as the UK, yet overall I believe Kurt has been seen as having had a fair bit of success in that country.

Oh, I didn't know about Poland. Its not mentioned at all in the top40 chart websight. Are you sure that wasn't #1 for radio airplay?
And Holland is the same thing as the Netherlands. I don't know why we have two different names for the same country happy.gif

OK be kind. I've only been studying Norwegian for four months.
Norueganos, ayudame por favor.

This is kinda what that article says.

20,000 Germans hail Kurt

20,000 Germans sang along with "She's So High" that the "Bergenser" played with 80's heroine Nena at a big festival in Berlin this weekend.

"Helt vilt" ??? said the world idol, who was greatly delighted with the response to his tour in Germany.

That is the biggest stage I have been on. 20,000 people, that ( became wild???)

{I can't make sense of the next part.}

He met 80's star Nena {who is apparently an icon that I never heard of}. He was little when she was a big. He only knows the 99 LuftBalloon song {which does sound vaguely familiar}, but it's in German and he said, "My German sucks bigtime." (did I get that right?)

This was his third concert in Germany. In June he goes back for a three week tour.

Then it talks about the concert in Bergen.

PS! Kurt went in at 25th place on the British singles list with She's So High. That is a very good achievement says his manager, JFK.

His next single, Here She Comes will come out in two weeks (to British radio).

Feel free to fill in all the blanks and fix the errors.

An article from VG:

KURT IS POP IN ENGLAND

17th of May Kurt Nilsen(25) launched the single “She’s so high” in England – and went straight into place #25 on the hitlist.

- This is an unbelievably good start in England. It isn’t often we see a Norwegian artist on a 25-place on that list. In addition we know that the record company thinks long-termed and is determined when it comes to Kurt, and we have a lot to build on when the next single is getting launched, says Kurt’s manager Jan Fredrik Karlsen, who has also spoken with Kurt about the chart-placing.:

- Kurt is very happy! Everybody is pleased, says Karslen.

Kurt Nilsen constantly reaches new tops after he won “Idol” last year and “World Idol”. He has gotten big enough to that the famous music program “Top of the Pops” on BBC chose to use time on Kurt in two program in a row.

Friday 7th of May the program sent a report with Kurt from Bergen and Friday 14th of May Kurt performed “She’s so high” on “Top of the Pops”.

Last week Kurt was on a tour in Germany, there will he also be doing several festival-jobs in the future. His debut-album “I” has sold incredible 172 000 copies in Norway and abroad.

- it will be a new promo-round in England in a couple of weeks when “Here she comes “ will be out, says Jan Fredrik Karlsen, who has not get the sales number of “She’s so high”.

PS! In a week can Kurt collect one million kroners when he’s warming up for Bryan Adams on Brann stadium, - in the middle of all the play-jobs in Germany, Austria and Luxembourg.

grin.gif

you're right, he did do better in Netherlands/Holland than no. 33, cause the next week he went up to no. 22! He also stayed on the top 40 chart there quite a while, I think around 2 and a half months happy.gif

Thanks for posting that article. I'm glad they are please with his placing in the UK charts, and that he will continue to do promotion there thumbup.gif

I guess it is your point of view. The glass is half full.

Aftenposten says

Kurt Nilsen had a hard job in Great Britain. One thing was he gave an exclusive concert for the British media and a performance on "Top of the Pops" writes the Bergen newspaper.

Before there have not been many Norwegian artists who have made a mark for themselves on the British lists. This week Kurt comes in 25th place on the official hitlist in Great Britain.
The single is also coming in on the UK Top 40-List at 31st place.

Norwegian artists on British hitlists are unusual. Among those who have made it earlier are a-ha, Royksopp, Kings of Convenience and Lene Marlin.

At least I think that's what it says. original.gif
