maybe i was certainly not expecting much when i planned to rot in front of the tv when AI was on this year. (seriously.. i only watched AI since i had a 8-mth vacation after high school and before uni and had nothing better to do)

She sings just a little bit. I just think she should stay away from "Alone"... everybody sings this and i always think, wow... not as good as Carrie =D

BTW, in the first video there is a funny comment from the new judge Kara Dio...something... You know, the one that is Michael's friend i believe.

i liked the way she sang "ooh barracuda". it will be interesting to watch her. for her, i think song choice could make or break her.

Yeah. But i think if she goes throught she will give the show that female rock edge. You know... Amanda Overmeyer wasn't exactly that and her vocals weren't THAT good. I think Carly is more like it, but she tried to sing some ballads to please the judges and all... well. The key point is that i think she can't win idol, but can do good if she chooses the right songs. She made me remember Nikki Mckibbin. I really liked her on idol and i think a lot of her performances are underrated, but i am minority in the forums

I think the producers pretty much will determine the top 12 because of the new format of the semi-finals. I'm sure they'll focus on their favorites during auditions and Hollywood week, and will group them in the semi-final to give their favorites a better chance at advancing.

I like that they'll no longer have the same numbers of boys and girls.

In season two only two contestants got their spot in the semifinals each night. They put Ruben and Kimberley Locke in the same group because they were supposed to pass and they did. But... in this group there was someone they didn't expect to... Clay Aiken.

That is what it is interesting about this new way of going to the semifinals. Some cool stories appear, but some talented people can be out the top 12 too. I just think this new way of doing it... One man, one girl and the next most voted will be weird. If there are 3 or for amazing guys or girls one of them will probably be out. But... this is what makes the show more interesting.

Yeah, and if I remember correctly Clay was voted to the top 12 in the final round by audience. 8 advanced from the semis and in the final round each judge picked one contestant. This year there is no final voting.

The thing is, people might not know who's the best until they see all the contestants perform. But yeah as you said, this might make the show a bit more interesting. I hope they give the contestants enough airtime during Hollywood. Though I'm not happy with the return of the group performances in Hollywood.

But airtime isn't THAT important before the singing part. Usually the airtime only saves the unqualified ones with a good background story. On season one Jim Verraros made it to the TOP 10 because of his story, his singing was not so good. In the same season, Kelly Clarkson had almost NO airtime and made it to the Top 10.

ps: Apparently the girl i talkd about, Emily Hughes, didn't make the top 36

^^^ I meant by airtime showing all of their auditions. Sometimes we don't see anything from some until they get to the semis.

Michael Castro cut in Hollywood. I expected that since Jason and his sister had bad moods on their myspace by the end of Hollywood week. I'm now curious to know why he was cut. Must be interesting since Jason had "confused" mood.

Kara DioGuardi. Her association to Rye and Michael is through Jeff Foxworth. They were in a band together called Platinum Weird.

Rye: ... My writing/producing partner Jeff Foxworth used to play guitar in her band called "Platinum Weird" with Dave Stewart. So Jeff is the connection. Her songwriting career is definitely something that I aspire towards. She's had something like 60 of her songs on platinum selling albums! Quite remarkable…I have tremendous respect for her accomplishments.
