CBS is the worst. NBC has proved that Network sitcoms can be good, but everybody is too busy watching The Big Bang Theory to care.

Heartbreakingly true. It's probably one of the reasons why Community does poorly in the ratings (although why NBC thought it should lead off Thursday nights, I don't know, especially against TBBT).

AGREE. Or it was. And I would say that Parks and Rec is a really close second.

I know this is petty, but I want Smash to fail. Because if it fails, then Community has a higher chance of getting back on the air for another season.

I used to love TBBT, but all the characters are now destroyed. And Sheldon was my favorite, but he is now beyond irritating. It's not funny at all anymore.

I agree!

And it's really weird, because it seems like about the time I started disliking the show (parts of season 3/ALL of season 4 and now I just don't even bother), that's when everyone I know started loving it. Like I know quite a few people who adore it and it's their can't miss show including reruns. And I just don't get it.

One of the big problems with the Big Bang Theory (and this goes for essentially all Chuck Lorre shows) is that there is a refusal to evolve the characters. There is no growth and therefore it isn't interesting to continue to watch. Add the fact that Leonard and Penny don't have a lot of sexual tension which sinks one of the main recurring plotlines. I will say that Mayin Bialik has really added a lot of life this past season and that there should be more focus paid on her.

But even the best episode of TBBT is only as good as a middling Community/Parks and Rec episode.

I watched the pilot of Smash the other day (god bless OnDemand) and it really didn't live up to the hype. It wasn't BAD, per say, but I was expecting something mind blowing and I didn't get it. Also, McPhee was REALLY wooden.

I bet it'll get good ratings (for NBC) initially but fade rather quickly.

I don't think Smash is ever going to be a ratings giant, but so far it has the potential to be a really good television show so I guess I would like to see it not fail and get moderate ratings for its time slot (I say moderate because LOL moderate is like all that NBC can get nowadays).

well, i'm someone who complains about $#itty reality TV (i don't complain about good reality TV, which does exist). so:

i think the reason that most ppl complain about reality shows is that the ratio of reality to scripted TV these days is like 3:1 (more or less)... they take issue with the fact that 'dumb reality' has almost overtaken 'smart anything'.

obvious example: MTV. used to play videos, then played fewer... and fewer, until present day when the entirety of its programming is about teen moms and partying guidos.

it's more and more difficult to just change the channel and not watch them when every channel starts perpetuating and contributing to the anti-education of America. Hell, TLC ("The Learning Channel") consistently re-runs Pageant Babies (or whatever it's called).

The scary thing is, is that some of us can recognize just how stupid these shows are... but there are many who, in essence, get 'raised' by these shows and are shaped by them in one way or another.

The problem is that the popularity of these stupid reality shows means that we'll get a greater number of those and fewer high quality, scripted programs. I don't watch them, but I still complain, and that's pretty much why.

You can say that for pretty much anything on TV, really. I agree though. People who complain about TV shows and still watch them need to look at themselves in the mirror.
