the worst book i've ever read has GOT to be THE PEARL...i'm not sure whether i'm reading the adapted version of it or not(it's rather thin) , but I'm studying it for English Literature Grade 11 (our english standards are rather low).....IT TOOK ME MORE THAN A WEEK TO FINISH THAT BOOK! it was utterly boring, and the story moved so slowly that it seemed to me that the author was trying to show off his impressive vocabulary/writing skills by over-describing every single teeny weeny detail than actually bothering about the story at all.. and the ending is just DUMB..they went through everything, and end up with NOTHING.. what's the point? it's plain depressing!!
i actually hated it so much that i scored extremely low points for the question "which character do you admire in The Pearl and why"... a thousand apologies if the version i read is actually the adapted version and it's actually much longer and interesting....but i doubt so -------------------- thanks to claygasm.com for the avatar! |

Ceremony and Christ in Concrete, two books I read in Modern Lit are awful.

I'm surprised by the amount of people saying Catcher in the Rye. I don't think any other book has ever had me laughing out loud. I love that novel.
I hated Huck Finn. I'm not saying it was bad, because it obviously isn't a bad book, but I hated it. I couldn't get through it, it jumped around a lot, and just...blah. Not for me. Not my book. I also stopped reading Harry Potter after the fourth one. I liked Harry Potter but I never LOVED it. What annoyed me the most about the books was that it took the author 200 pages to get them to school...where the story actually started. -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

The Clique series. I only read one book from it but it was AWFUL. Maybe because it was geared toward the younger crowd or something...it was so stupid.

I can't believe some of you think The Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird etc are bad.
The Chrysalids= WORST BOOK EVER I didn't like this one either, but it had some good themes. I hated Harry Potter. HOW DARE YOU. Haha. The Devil Wears Prada - the movie is way better That book is pure chick lit bordering on trash. The movie is 100x better but only thanks to Meryl Streep. I found Angels and Demons by Dan Brown boring. It wasn't terrible but it left no impression on me and was not a good read at all. The Winter Room by Gary Paulsen. I had to read it years ago in elementary school and I can still remember how boring and terrible it was. (He has some really good books, but this is definitely not one of them.)
Most people love this book, but Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I had to read it last year for English.. It was so dull and boring. The movie was good though. I can't believe people don't like Angels and Demons and Harry Potter. Those are like, my favorite books ever. This post has been edited by Darian373: Jul 23rd 2008, 2:42 PM -------------------- |

Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism -- This is like a novel for kids aged 11 or something, but I read it years ago and it is still hands down the worst book I've ever read. I started reading it, but wasn't able to finish. I agree, it was really bad. I also could not stand The Old Man and the Sea. Booooring.
