Best part - when he comes back, he will be "encouraged" to start serious dating (as in "get a wife" thing). Basically, his fan can already say goodbye to any career

But there's still hope. It could always end up like in Latter Days movie devil.gif

If a Mormon does decide to go on a mission (I know that most don't) then do they get into relationships before his/her mission? If so, is the girlfriend/boyfriend just supposed to wait for two years until the mission is over? If David had started dating Charice for example (I know that did not happen), would she have really been expected to wait two years? Just curious. To me, if you know that there is even the possibility that you are going on a mission, you should not be entering into any serious relationship. Just not fair to the other person. Wait until your mission is over.

Or simply don't waste 2 years and potentially the relationship just to recruit more people to the church

Or makes people. Just depends on how you view it. Then I guess it's a good thing David said he didn't want super stardom.

Most mormon males that I know don't date much before going on their missions but usually wait til they are over for serious dating.

That makes a lot of sense. I just think it would be so unfair to start a relationship with anyone knowing that it might be necessary, in the near future, to separate for 2 years.

The Latter Days comment. roll2.gif

In David's defence, I don't think he views his mission as a way to make more people join his religion. He just wants to go help people and make a difference in their lives. However, the religion as a whole is just trying to expand itself, obviously. rolleyes.gif wacko.gif

I'm positively surprised by humorous reception, compared to how hysteric some fans reacted to the slightest gay mention in the past bleh.gif

i think it would be better for david's career if he is gay cuz if he comes back from mission and gets married and has kids and acts like a regular person i think most of his fans will fade away cuz it's not fun to obsess about a married guy with a bunch of kids haha.gif

I'm really proud of him but depressed at the same time because it'll be two years before I see him again. These are sad times crying.gif I'm not in any way mad at him for his decision though. If he feels led by God to do this, then he should. I know I'll still be a fan so in 2 years when he makes more music, I will buy it. David fan for life right here original.gif

You wrote angry fan letter to him? That's really rude shocked.gif

For anyone still interested and wants to know his reasons...

Impromptu roundtable fan session in Manila. David talks about his Mission.
- How long he's wanted to do it ("years")
- Didn't think fans would stick around after Idol
- He won't be completely "away"
- etc.
David Archuleta & his Mission.

He's got half a month left before he leaves.
"One Month"

It really isn't. In Utah, there are artists that primarily do music in Utah, and are very popular here - and they can make a decent living. He'll still be doing music.

Men are actually told to wait until they get home to get into a serious relationship, but that doesn't always happen. haha.gif The whole "wait for you" thing is big in mormon culture. Dear John letters to missionaries are infamous haha.gif It really depends on the couple. Sometimes, the couple just decides to go their seperate ways and see what happens when he gets back home, other times she'll wait for him and they will resume their relationship where they left off. I know of a lot of guys who get engaged within months of returning home. My cousin just got married and he's been home for maybe six months. I don't know of anyone who refused to date or anything like that, but I supposed it has happened.

It ruins people? hmmmm. Because of "religion" mormons have it more together than most people. If they adhere to their religion that will "ruin" them, they aren't going to get arrested for DUIs or become abusive alcoholics, do drugs, having a man leave you high and dry as an unwed single mother or be used and abused, get stds. . . .
