I just figured that since nobody here's posted a review yet from this past Wednesday night, I'll just share mine with all of you.
"As I sit here typing this review, I still can't stop thinking about an amazing night I had with my college roommate. First off, our way of getting there was a lot easier than we thought it'd be. All we had to do was to take the "1" subway from Penn Station to 42nd St. and 7th and then walk one block to stand in line in the freezing cold. So we did just that, and you'll never guess what happened. We actually passed by our friends who were going on a field trip that same day so it was just awesome! Let me just tell you the highlights of our unbelievable concert: - When my roommate and I got inside the theater, we decided to check our coats and it turned out that it was so cheap...about $3 at least. - The inside of the Nokia theater was really well-done. It had all these chandelier-like lights that hung above the middle of the venue...and that made it look so professional. - There were about 3 opening acts (The Sunstreak, Day of Fire, and The Midway State) and the actual concert did not start until 15 minutes before 8:00. My roommate and I thought it didn't matter 'cause we liked to watch the opening bands in general. - At one point, after The Midway State performed their set, my roommate started feeling dizzy so she told me she was gonna get some fresh air outside. Then I waited until 10:00 (which was ten minutes before Daughtry were about to go on) to text her. But she said she'd find a good spot, so I just stayed where I was. - One random thing that happened was...you know how there's background music playing before a band goes on? Well, they played mostly classic rock songs and such...and guess what other two songs played? Justin Timberlake's "Sexyback" and No Doubt's "Hella Good"! I thought it was so funny that those two songs were inconsistent to the pattern of other songs. - I ended up taking thousands upon thousands of pics of Chris Daughtry...I mean, I was trying to capture the perspective of him as the musician that he is. That's one reason why I'm starting to admire him so much. - After my roommate went outside, I ended up standing next to these two girls who looked to be about 15 years old...I believe. They were saying all these weird things like "Chris is bringin' sexy back!" and "He's like walking porn". LOL...I was like...um...okay then... - I absolutely loved how Chris decided to do an acoustic version of "All These Lives" and put his own vocal twist into it. It sounded so beautiful the way he sang it. Then he played a new song called "Back to Me", and I really loved the lyrics. I felt like I could really identify with this song a lot...and it almost made me wanna cry. - Later on, Chris was saying how people would come up to him and ask "Do you feel like you guys have made it yet?" and he'd say "no, not yet". Then he started taking a sip of water and I yelled, "CHRIS, YOU'RE THE BEST"! Everyone started joining in and cheered on, then he said "You know what I just realized? When you go to take a sip of water and everybody starts cheering for you, then you know that you've made it." I thought it was just so cool. - When it came to the part where Daughtry went into "What About Now", let me just say that I actually enjoyed their performance of it...then I enjoyed it even more when Chris segued (sp?) into "I Walk the Line"...yes...the "I Walk the Line" that he sang during his stint on Idol...it sounded absolutely beautiful, really. - Can I just say something about their performance of "Over You"? To be quite honest, when the opening chords came in and the song began I almost wanted to cry. I was just happy they got to do this song 'cause everytime I listen to it, the lyrics actually help motivate me in getting over my ex boyfriend. Anyway, I kinda almost cried for a few seconds...then the sadness gave me enough passion to sing along. So I just ended up singing it with all my heart, and it made me feel so good inside. - Later on, Steely took the spotlight for a bit and started to sing a little piece of Ozzy Osbourne's "Crazy Train", which had a little reggae feel to it actually. - Since I can't come up with anything to say about one or two other songs they did, I'll just inform you about the very last song. So basically, they went into "There and Back Again". There was this part where when the music started to kick in, we started jumping up and down. It felt like an adrenaline rush coming over, and I'm glad that it didn't turn into a mosh pit. I figured that any Daughtry concert would not be like that 'cause they care a lot about their fans. That's a really good thing. Anyway, I was completely captivated by the way Chris gave his all into this song as well all the others, really. He even used a large megaphone to create these special effects for those incredible pipes of his. And before the show ended, they did a breakdown into Filter's "Hey Man Nice Shot"...it sounded so awesome the way Chris used the megaphone to capture the haunting vocals used in the original version. So after the show ended, my roommate and I retrieved our coats and prepared to take the train back to college. We actually didn't come back until about 1:45 in the morning, and we were so tired by then. She headed straight to bed when we got back to our room...and me? I went straight to the computer and started uploading the hundreds of pics from that night onto Facebook. Then it was 3 in the morning when I finally went to bed. Now here are my final thoughts on this fantastic, outstanding concert. Now, it's been nine months since I've last gone to a concert...and that last one was Justin Timberlake. Now if I had to choose between those two, I'd have to say that Daughtry definitely took the icing on the cake (or whatever that idiom is). My reason is because they put so much energy and passion into their live shows...especially Chris. I mean...I'm just thankful that God gave him the gifts of music and love so that he can share them with everyone. I'm glad that this band has really been going places...and now to have 4 Grammy nods? That's just an incredible feat in itself, yet they still remain grounded and humble. I truly admire them so much now that my roommate and I finally went to see them perform. This is a great memory that I know I'll treasure and cherish for years to come." This post has been edited by *ShellBell86*: Mar 2nd 2008, 10:03 AM -------------------- |

Great review. Thank you for sharing your experience. That's awesome that Chris sang a little bit of I Walk The Line. Sounds like it was a fun night.

Yeah, it was definitely an amazing night. And what was so cool about it was that it was in a week where I also had two birthday parties I was invited to, so that week was all fun.

Awesome review. Thanks so much for sharing!
I think you described Chris really well. He's such a genuine guy. I'm so glad that OY has such meaning for you. I am always touched by how humble Chris is about the fame. Bringing sexy back! Post more often!! --------------------
