For anyone who missed the season finale, they gave Kristen Wiig a sendoff and made it pretty clear that she's not coming back.
There are rumours Andy Samberg and Jason Sudeikis could be leaving too. For me, Andy Samberg's characters are desperate and unfunny, but his digital shorts are pretty good, and he's probably one of the show's more important writers and creative minds. Losing Jason Sudeikis now would be a travesty, seeing as it's an election year and he plays both Romney and Biden. Without bringing in the auto-fire "SNL has sucked since the 90s" comment, I'm thinking next season is going to inherit a pretty brutal lineup. If those three do all leave, Bill Hader (and maybe the guy who plays Newt Gingrich) could be the only remotely funny and popular players left. I guess next season will be a "rebuilding" year, but an election year is hardly the ideal time for that. The female cast is absolutely brutal; the show coasted on Amy Poehler and Kristen Wiig for way too long and brought in no suitable replacements. Oh my....I'm kinda surprised, she was becoming like the new Tina Fey. I'm guilty of falling into the category of the 90s being the golden age of SNL, but I did enjoy the early 2000's too. Since 2006 I haven't been feeling it that much.
They'll probably all leave gradually, I don't think they'd leave the show like a chicken without a head. But with the female cast members there could always be another reason they decide to leave, having children. -------------------- sig courtesy of justin-gabriel.net |

I've heard rumors that Jason's gonna stay through the election and leave at the end of 2012, kind of like Amy Poehler and Maya Rudolph did in their seasons. I certainly hope Jason won't need to stay longer because Mitt's president

I'm sad! I love Kristen Wiig- she's hilarious and fantastic on the show. If Bridesmaids is any indication, though, she will have a great career.
The sendoff is beautiful but bittersweet. -------------------- |

^ Since its inception, pretty much. Before Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, not many women went on to bigger things after SNL. I guess you could say Molly Shannon and Julia Louis-Dreyfus did, but that still isn't much compared to how many male careers the show has launched.
I really don't think any of the women left are anything special, but perhaps the success of Tina, Amy, and maybe Kristin indicate a reversal of that trend. -------------------- John le Carr้'s conduct in your pages is like nothing so much as that of a man who, having relieved himself in his own hat, makes haste to clamp the brimming chapeau on his head.

I think Vanessa Bayer could be something. Her and Taran Killam are like sunshine and happiness. I quite like Nasim too, but there will definitely be a void without Kristen. Wish Fred Armisen would leave; so tired of him. Plus I feel like when he leaves they can finally let Jay Pharoah be great.

Really mad about Kristen, tbh. I was just getting into her and then she had to leave.
I also agree that Vanessa has potential, and I really like Kenan too. Bill and Abby are good. See, I still think there's a lot of humor on the show. Whatevs. This post has been edited by aag1010: May 28th 2012, 8:40 PM --------------------

I was just talking to a friend about this: does anyone actually watch SNL live? I honestly don't think I could. It's the perfect show to PVR for a Sunday morning. My weekend feels kind of naked without it, but if I couldn't fast-forward through a lot of the sketches and 75% of the performances, I don't think I could watch it.

Sadly, he plays Obama and will be pretty crucial next year. -------------------- John le Carr้'s conduct in your pages is like nothing so much as that of a man who, having relieved himself in his own hat, makes haste to clamp the brimming chapeau on his head.

Julia's been pretty vocal about how SNL is a big boy's club, too. And with people like her, Sarah Silverman and Janeane Garofalo, I feel like the fact that a lot of people forget they were ever on SNL shows that it's often not helpful for a woman's career; they have to get their success through other sources (Seinfeld, standup, friendships with other male comedians) and while I'm happy those three got success, it's sad that SNL didn't give them more. I do, because I like to complain about it and freak out about it on ONTD, Twitter and Tumblr with other fans. It's a nice communal show where we can share the experience. I get bummed when I can't watch it live. -------------------- |

My favourite cast member remaining is Bill Hader- he is so talented and I die of laughter whenever Stefon appears. I also really like Vanessa and Taran. I really still love Kristen too.
Does anyone else want Keenan to leave? I have never found him to be funny. I was just talking to a friend about this: does anyone actually watch SNL live? I honestly don't think I could. Either my mom or I tapes it, and we watch it together on Sunday morning usually over breakfast. I could never watch this live, for two reasons. 1: I'd probably fall asleep. 2: Like you, I fast-forward through quite a bit of the show. For example, my mom and I got through the Eli Manning show in literally 10 minutes- it was terrible!!! -------------------- |

In fairness, both of those women had very brief tenures. Sarah was let go after one season as a feature player and found her own avenue in comedy. She rubbed it in the show's face, so I think it's fair enough that the show doesn't get the satisfaction of being associated with her. As for Garofalo, the reason I choose to forget her is not that she's a woman. I do think Julia's right though. Look at how the 2009-2010 season had seven male repertory players and one female (Kristen). The opposite would never be allowed. My favourite cast member remaining is Bill Hader- he is so talented and I die of laughter whenever Stefon appears. I also really like Vanessa and Taran. I really still love Kristen too. Stefon is God. I've heard that Bill either improvs him or isn't sure what he's supposed to read before he goes on, which is why he can never get through it. Though I don't think any of us expect or even want him to keep it together at this point. I'm sad that we only get one more year of Hader most likely I cannot stand Keenan. The "whaddup with that?" sketches are freaking brutal. Same with the Latin talk show sketches. As the one with the fake Japanese kids segment. For that matter, whoever's writing the sketches with singing every thirty seconds is the laziest writer there is and needs to be shown the door. Seth is a decent head writer, but he's very much a one-trick pony. The smarmy delivery style is kind of bland and stale. He doesn't do himself any favours by not writing himself into any sketches. I'd take him over Jimmy Fallon, but I can't imagine what he'd go onto if he left. I think if you're putting money on the show's breakout star after Bill and Andy leave, Bobby Moynihan is the best bet. -------------------- John le Carr้'s conduct in your pages is like nothing so much as that of a man who, having relieved himself in his own hat, makes haste to clamp the brimming chapeau on his head.

Yes, I've heard Bill say on talk shows that he doesn't know what he reads beforehand and the make-up guys tell him he won't be able to keep it together I agree- I love it when he bursts out laughing. I actually enjoy when a cast member breaks character because it makes everything funnier imo. -------------------- |

Yeah I remember reading about the rumors a few months ago, so when the last episode started doing all Kristen-based sketches, I knew it was her last.
And then I was so sad as well when Andy confirmed his departure. Hopefully Jason will stay on longer- I don't want him to leave too! My four favorites are Bill, Kristen, Andy, and Jason, and 3 out of those 4 are leaving. -------------------- LOVES: SWIFT, Allen, Hightower, NKOTBSB, Parsons, Kanemura, Boyd, Mason, Froderman, Mraz, DiCaprio, Mars, Cook, Underwood
