  10. So there was an original planned musical with music from Leonard Bernstein that was first staged in 1950 but had the songs cut down to 5 to play more like a straight drama. Probably what then happened is both Peter Pan the Disney movie probably had been in development long before that (it was actually in Disney development hell for what looks like nearly 15 years). It looks like since the 1950 version was a drama then another producer could secure the American musical rights and thus both the animated movie and the 1953 musical were developed independently but on parallel timelines.
  11. Chim Chim Cher-ee (Mary Poppins) I am once again cutting songs I love to save other songs that I think are more iconic to the Disney canon. I also think it helps that there are more Mary Poppins songs left in this rankdown than Dumbo songs so it's not too bad to lose this one at the Top 100. Watching a scene like this reminds me of just how incredibly charming Dick Van Dyke is. He's a little bit too young to be one of those old Hollywood leading men, but he's just the right age to really hit at the right time for the new TV. Probably why he has two sitcoms and a Variety show featuring him as a namesake and starring vehicle. For how boisterous as Dick Van Dyke's Bert typically is, this one is almost low key, especially the last minute or so. It ended up winning the 1964 Academy Award for Best Original song, and I think the levels that this song has is what contributes to that. And while it wouldn't be my choice from the movie I can't complain too much. Anyway, I love how delightfully awful Dick Van Dyke's Bert accent is and I feel that really only contributes to his character. I'm almost talking myself out of cutting this song so I'll just post the cut before I change my mind and lose my save. Saving: Baby Mine
  12. save: Baby Mine cut: Chim Chim Cher-ee
