Our final night in SF and we are having a quiet one. Once again we walked quite a few miles today and my poor feet are suffering. We caught the cable car to Lombard Street today and couldn't get back on one (my main gripe about this city) so we walked back to China Town and then back to our hotel. I think I hate the walking down the hills more than the walking up. Back to LA tomorrow and a flight to NY on Friday morning.

Smh shocked.gif no.gif at these second verse lyrics of FGL's "Sun Daze":

Stir it up as we turn on some Marley
If you want you can get on Harley
I sit you up on a kitchen sink
Stick the pink umbrella in your drink

Another number 1 for the boys thumbdown.gif

haha.gif I heard that yesterday! I kinda winced at that segment of the song. pinch.gif It's got a lot of 'glory to drug use' in it too. there's no substance to it so, yeah, in this environment it's a number one.

Here is the full lyrics. If radio takes a song this obscene to #1 over some of the better songs on the chart, then it's just proof the devil himself is running Country radio now.

[Verse 1]
I'm gonna wear my flip-flops and
I'm gonna play some flip-cup and
Rock a little bit of hip-hoping and Haggard and Jagger
And throw a 20 on the court whole game
If I'm lucky yeah I might get laid
The way that it's going, the keg gon' be floating

[Chorus]
All I wanna do today is wear my favorite shades and get stoned
Work a little less, play a little more
That's what this day is for
And all I wanna do is lace my J's and put some Jack in my Coke
Work on my lay back, ain't nothin' wrong
With gettin' my sun daze on, gettin' my sun daze on

[Verse 2]
Girl you know you're the life of my party
You can stay and keep sippin' Bacardi
Stir it up as we turn on some Marley
If you want you can get on Harley
I sit you up on a kitchen sink
Stick the pink umbrella in your drink
They way that we're feeling we gone buy this evening

Songs like this make me so thankful for Scotty! Radio used to be full of Scottys. Now they are full of FLGA lines. What a sad thing for Country music. no.gif

btw isn't this a Summer song being released in the Fall? wacko.gif Well if radio will play this now, there is NO EXCUSE not to take FI to #1!

Haven't heard the song, but I definitely expect it to go to #1.

In the last few years, country radio has been trying to cater to the young demographic (18-34 demo). That's why there's been a lot of bro-country & bad songs being played. Recently, country radio has been starting to go away from catering to this demographic & focusing more towards the older demographic (35 yrs. old & above). Now your artists that are big stars such as FGL & Luke wouldn't be affected at least soon. But I wonder if it wouldn't start to effect the artists that do well in the young demo who aren't big stars yet such as Thomas Rhett, Cole Swindell, Chase Rice, etc.

I'm so disappointed in the direction of country music. Someone on here noted that some of the songs/albums have been rated explicit on itunes - if that is catering to the younger crowd then we are all in trouble if that is the kind of lyric, behavior, etc. they are craving. sad.gif Or is it being force fed to the young people like the ^*@% out of hollywood? noexpression.gif

I think part of the problem is this music is selling. FGL is selling very well. So is Luke & a lot of artists that have explicit songs or are bro-country. Many of them have songs that are platinum certified (1 million copies or more sold). If they weren't selling, I do not think the labels or country music would market these artists as much. Obviously, part of the reason they're selling is they are played too much on radio. If you keep listening to the same songs on radio, there are people who will buy the music.

My problem is radio needs a balance of the different types of country music. FGL, Luke, & other bro-country artists sell well. But why can't there be a balance? There are songs recently like Tim & Faith's song, Lee Brice's song, etc. that are more traditional leaning country & have done well on the charts & in sales. I think there can be room for both types of country on radio & it can do well on the charts & in sales. The problem is radio needs to get on board.

Wow. I already have to change the radio stations enough, aargh.

Speaking of new music, we love Dierks Bentley's Riser, not so much Brad's Moonshine in the Trunk. Per the latter, the music is better, the lyrics leave something to be desired (if you're of a conservative bent). Has anyone listened to Riser?

I like Josh Turner's new song "Low Lay", also like the review:

http://tasteofcountry.com/josh-turner-lay-low/

In part:

While the lyrics and musical approach may seem overly simplistic to some listeners, ‘Lay Low’ is actually refreshing in the current country scene. While many of today’s hits center on heavy drinking, tangled love stories and revenge-driven rebellion, it’s exciting to hear Turner sing about simple pleasures like rustic cabins, rain on old tin roofs, and light that comes only from the moon and the fire. Maybe simple is good. Maybe simple is just what we all need.
