Most agree that Season 11 of American Idol is off to a bad, if not horrible, start. I wonder if that leaves an opportunity for The Voice to become the top singing show? Will it succeed? Or will it drop both shows down?

The Voice has its audience, doubtful it can expand much more. Only if the Dancing with Stars season is crap, will they maybe pick up the older audience they don't have now. The main difference in the ratings between Idol and The Voice, is the 35-49 and over 50 demos. Idol gets good numbers in those, but they watch DWTS on Monday, so The Voice doesn't do as well there.
Also, I expect The Voice to decline in ratings. IDT the move to Monday was all that smart. The CBS line up is solid, with programs that appeal to the whole spectrum of demos. Tuesday, CBS caters to an older audience. The only competition The Voice had was Glee, which wasn't much as last season of Glee was terribly conceived and written . Beneficial. As much as people want these shows to be all about the contestants many people don't really tune in for that. They tune in for entertainment, drama and to occasionally see a performance that is marginally better than what you'd see at your local bar. The new idol trio really isn't fun to watch except for Steven but even he got boring when the live shows began. Not to mention the Voice has the post-Super Bowl slot so they have a good shot at expanding their audience.

It could help, but I don't think it'll make a huge difference at this point. What will make the noticeable difference is how good the Voice is this season and whether or not Idol picks up or not.

Ever since I have started to watch idol, the audition phase has always been a mix of annoying, silly, boring, and good. Wait until Hollywood week before you make judgements. Based on the top 24 spoilers, there is some serious good talent. But I don't think The Voice will become number 1. Part of idol's appeal is actually finding superstars, and they found that with Kelly their first season. I think that helped set idol apart from the rest. All of the voice's contestants have flopped big time so far. The auditions are the most fun part of the voice, but after that it gets boring, especially with the battle rounds and how it all becomes about the judges/coaches. --------------------

I don't see how it could have any effect on The Voice whatsoever. People tuned out of Idol's auditions because they were boring, and they'll do the same for TV's auditions if they're boring.
