The Harry Potter series bores me to death. Half way through the second book I seriously fell asleep as I was reading it.

I don't like the idea of a mortal teenager/vampire love interest in books.

I've hated on Twilight more than enough, but it bothers me when people who haven't read the series hate on it. Like they're doing it just because it's ~the thing to do~ or whatever. How can you criticize something that you haven't even read?

I don't like the idea of a mortal teenager/vampire love interest in books. I'm just tired of paranormal romance in books, period. I've hated on Twilight more than enough, but it bothers me when people who haven't read the series hate on it. Like they're doing it just because it's ~the thing to do~ or whatever. How can you criticize something that you haven't even read? It kind of annoys me too, and I'm as big a ~hater as it gets. -------------------- ![]() CUf is my fave | AI11: EVP, Skylar, Hollie |

I think Twilight is great. It may not be great writing or content, but it's makes reading fun for people that would otherwise be watching reality tv or soaps. In terms of excercising your brain, the worst thing you can read is better than most of what you can find on tv. You cannot "beta watch tv." Reading forces your brain to imagine its own settings and appearances. Anything that gets kids reading is a good thing, in my opinion. I condemn the movies 100%.

How can you criticize something that you haven't even read? out of curiousity (in regards to all the hype/hate i always heard about it), i read a few passages (total of about 10-15 pgs). based on that i feel qualified to rank myself among the haters. though, you could not pay me to read the book in full. i have more interesting books on my bookshelf to which i am willing to dedicate my time and thoughts. i regard the author of Twilight with the same literary disdain as Nicholas Sparks. but, sure, as an above poster has mentioned; i would rather teens read a $hitty book than watch $hitty reality television. it's a good start. This is probably an unpopular opinion: I don't really like Hamlet. We are reading it in English now, and while I understand how some of the elements and themes of the play are brilliant, I just don't really care about most of the story. It's kind of weird, because I was looking forward to studying the play this year. I've enjoyed studying it, but I don't really like the play itself, if that makes any sense. i HAVE to respond to this. for context, i'm an English major who was hell-bent on not majoring in English my first year of university (until i realized it was inevitable and a perfect way to spend 4 yrs of my life: reading good books and writing.) i didn't completely enjoy Shakespeare in high school either (and we read a lot of him in AP English). you HAVE to know though, SO MANY things about Shakespeare's plays are not 'high school appropriate' and therefore your teacher will not talk about them or highlight them for you. Shakespeare was actually an incredibly hilarious and sexual writer- to an extent you might not appreciate yet because you're reading him in high school. i didn't appreciate Shakespeare completely until i took my first Shakespeare class in college. and then it was like reading him for the first time. both because i was a little more mature and a better reader- but also because college professors can talk about the 'inappropriate' stuff. so, before you discount him forever, wait a couple years and take a college course. he's not for everyone but at least then you'll be better equipped to judge his storytelling. it might surprise you how much is being left out of your high school course I don't like Pride and Prejudice. (So far) It's like chick lit; extremely gossipy and bleh. I'm not a fan. I feel like an awful English major for saying that, haha. i never did connect with Austen. the Bronte sisters however... that's some good $hit. The strange thing is, I actually REALLY like Nicholas Sparks but can't stand Twilight. Sure they're not the most challenging books to read and if you've read enough of Sparks' books you realize how they're all pretty much the same story, but I still love reading them. -------------------- Share the magic in your heart there's nothing you can't do.
