THERE ARE so many girls with the same kind of voice this year! its the whole trying-too-hard-to-be-adele thing.
i know its unique to be raspy and husky and smoky but c'mon. Adele is the hottest thing now, why would anybody want to try to mimic her? it's ridiculous!

elise is another girl with the exact same kind of voice that comes to my mind.

Err? Both those girls have a pretty obvious natural rasp to their voices, especially Elise. Even when she speaks. They're not trying to mimick Adele.

Didn't realize no one else was allowed to have a rasp to their voice now that Adele is huge. IDF is always schoolin' me.

I think it's a couple of things.

1. They already had too many pretty blondes and one of them had to go to make room for a few brunettes. I do NOT think Jen is a better singer than Lauren though.

2. She has a great smoky vocal tone, but seems to lack confidence and suffer from nerves, which might have had something to do with their decision. Maybe they felt she couldn't handle the pressure.

3. I think you're right about Elise (and maybe Erika) having similar sounding vocal tones but they both have confidence and experience that Lauren lacks.

I really liked her too though.

None of those girls give me the impression they are trying to mimic Adele. Adele doesn't have a raspy voice hers is more clear anyway. Elise is the best out of the three though IMO and Lauren I thought was the weakest. They all three have similar voices so it made since to let Lauren go.

Elise Testone's voice is more like Amy whinehouse than Adele. Erika van pelt is more Pink, reminds me of Alison Irahetta.

Wait so ppl by covering songs are trying to mimic the artists they cover? Even if they have the similar voice that's nothing she can do about it nor should she. And as far as audition songs that is def a way to showcase yourself based on one song. Doesn't mean her idol run / album will be Adele. It's just used to impress the judges.

well she can if she actually stays AWAY from covering singers who she sounds like, especially singers who are THE REAL DEAL at the moment.

This happens every year all the time, I'm not sure why you think it's such a big deal. Skylar's already sang songs by Miranda Lambert and Reba who she's been compared to, Jessica Sanchez has done Beyonce on the show and about a million times on Youtube... hell Scotty's career was pretty much made when everyone fell in love with him after singing Josh Turner. It's nothing new.

The only reason she didn't make it is because Elise and Erika were better and probably because they seem a little bit stronger mentally. Nothing to do with Lauren "trying to be Adele."
