  1. One thing that I have been wondering is what Keaton/Anna’s piece by Talia Favia is actually about. They didn’t talk about the backstory in the rehearsal at all and focused entirely on the couple reveal. Ironically, the theme of the routine is very much the opposite of being a lovey-dovey romantic relationship (that would be Alexis/Jason’s piece for that night). Instead it seems to tell a similar story to Keaton’s routine with Audrey last week. However, this time around there’s nothing grandiose about it, no romantized scenario about the handsome male protagonist winning his ex-lover back through the power of dance. This version of the story from the woman’s point of view focusses on the many little elements that lead to the breakup, the accusations, the finger pointing, the revulsion Anna feels as she, even in her near-paralyzed state on the ground tries to wean herself away from him, her giving in by reaching for his outstretched hand that seems to signify a will for reconciliation from Keaton’s side, only for him to recklessly throw her away with no second thought right afterwards. Was it out of malice? Or rather just another thoughtless action deepening the rift between them? It’s very telling how Anna seems to mistake Keaton’s hand reaching out for her after that as a violent strike that she tries to protect herself from. The trust between them has been eroded. In the end Keaton ends up with Anna as he did with Audrey, but this time it doesn’t feel like a happy end, this end state looks fragile and might even represent failure as Anna did not succeed in “staying away”.
  2. So it does seem like it was a conscious decision to bring in All-Stars that have not been invited back (as much) compared to other seasons. After all it has been more than 13 years since we last saw Jason Glover officially dance on the SYTYCD stage. Robert Green for the first time, Audrey Case after she has only helped out as a replacement in Season 14 and Amy Yakima for the second time after many, many years. Also, looking back on how many of my favorites won: US1: Artem Chigvintsev US2: Benji Schwimmer (Winner) US3: Lacey Schwimmer US4: Joshua Allen (Winner) US5: Brandon Bryant US6: Kathry McCormick US7: Lauren Froderman (Winner) US8: Tadd Gadduang US9: Cole Horibe US10: Paul Karmiryan US11: Zack Everhart US12: Yorelis Apolinario US13: Ruby Castro US14: Koine Iwasaki US15: Hannahlei Cabanilla (Winner) US16: Bailey Muñoz (Winner) US17: Keaton Kermode CA1: Danny Arbour (Top 10) CA2: Melanie Mah (Top 6) CA3: Denys Drozdyuk (Winner) CA4: Christian Millette (Top 4) AU1: Rhys Bobridge (Runner-Up) AU2: Talia Fowler (Winner) AU3: Phillipe Witana (4th) AU4: Michael Dameski (Winner) NL1: Timor Steffens (Runner-Up) NL2: Els Smekens (Winner) NL3: Lise Alexander (3rd) NL4: Anna-Alicia Sklias (Runner-Up) NL5: Kalila Hermant (3rd) NL6: Tamara Arruti (3rd) NL7: Melanie Koster (Top 8 ) PO1: Anna Bosak (Winner) PO2: Kryspin Hermański (3rd) PO3: Marcin Mroziński (3rd) PO4: Julia Żytko (Top 4) PO5: Anna Andrzejewska (Top 6) PO6: Michał Maciejewski (Top 6) PO7: Magdalena Zwierzyńska (Top 4) PO8: Agata Stachowiak (Top 6) PO9: Michał Kalcowski (Top 6) UK1: Tommy Franzén (Runner-Up) UK2: Matt Flint (Winner) UA1: Alexandr Ostanin (Winner) UA2: Ilona Gvozdeva (Top 6) UA3: Lena Pul (Top 8 ) UA4: Vasily Kozar (Winner) UA All-Star Season: Mariam Turkmenbaeva (Winner) UA5: Svetlana Kambur (Top 8 ) UA6: Alisa Dotsenko (Top 6) UA7: Ilya Padzina (Top 6) UA8: Marina Mazepa UA9: Bogdan Urkhov (Top 4) VN1: Lâm Vinh Hải (Winner) VN2: Hoàng Mỹ An (Runner-Up) VN3: Nguyễn Tấn Huy (Top 10) VN4: Lê Hữu Phước (Top 4) VN5: Cao Thị Minh Phượng (Runner-Up) PT1: Marco Ferreira (Winner) PT2: Liliana Garcia (Winner) GR3: Oleksandr Bakharyev (Top 10) CN1: Tang Shi Yi (Runner-Up) AM2: Paul Karmiryan (Winner) IN1: Sneha Singh (Top 10) FN1: Sam Vaherlehto (Top 4) FN2: Haza Hajipoori (Winner) KZ1: Karina Sinthallat (Top 4) KZ2: Yernur Karykbol DE1: Yasemin Celikkan (Top 4) ZA3: Charlston Van Rooyen (Runner-Up) Overall 19 out of 70, that’s more than a fourth of all winners. not too shabby of a track record.
  3. From the very first week it was rather obvious who would (and should) be the final 2 contestants standing and similar to last season with Mariah/Bailey it ended up being the power couple of the season. While I had predicted Keaton to be the winner since on social media any posts involving him would receive more likes and reposts than those of any of the other contestants, obviously that would prove to be irrelevant as only the studio audience present on the night of the finale would determine the outcome. Alexis smashed all her performances during the finale and has proven herself an incredibly polished and consistend dancer throughout the entire season she makes for a very deserving winner.
  4. Finale: Top 12 + Judges - Jazz (Brian Friedman): 3 Alexis/Carter - Samba (Emma Slater and Sasha Farber): 7 Keaton/Anna - Contemporary (Talia Favia): 6.5 Keaton/Lex - Hip-Hop (Nika Kjlun): 2 Alexis/Jason - Contemporary (Robert Roldan): 4 Alexis/Keaton - Jazz (Brian Friedman): 3 Alexis - Solo (Latin): 5 Keaton - Solo (Contemporary): 4
  5. Definitely the best live-show we've had this season! Ironic, considering how this is easily the most stressful and challenging week for the remaining contestants both regarding the number of routines and the complexity of the choreography thrown at them. Keaton/Audrey's Contemporary and Alexis/Kiki's Argentine Tango were the two routines that managed to transport me into a another world by making me forget I was watching a tv show. By comparison Essence/Robert's Hip-Hop was lacking that special factor so I can see why the studio audience chose Keaton and Alexis for the super-final even though Essence tended to fare better with the audience voting the previous few weeks. Robert Green was an absolute pleasure to watch though. My eyes were transfixed on him the entire time. During Alexis/Essence's Contemporary routine I couldn't shake the feeling that they might have had music license issues because the song choice felt very fallen out of time. Like, you could have told me that this was performed in Season 1 or 2 and I would have believed it. Though with the white gowns and airy-cheesy vibes of this they might have just wanted to challenge that anachronistic retro-feeling. The only routine tonight I couldn't really get into even with with the underlying positive messages of sisterhood and empowerment. Alexis/Keaton's Bollywood was very fun and I loved how the two of them just let completely loose. interestingly, this felt like the most free-style Bollywood routine we've seen on this show if only because the choreography felt like it lacked any direction with no discernible story or slightest hint of what kind of character they were supposed to play. My top 3: Alexis/Kiki - Argentine Tango (Miriam & Leonardo): Such a stunning opening sequence! The dark-red lighting, the imagery of Kiki guiding Alexis' body like the accordion he played right before-hand, it all set the mood for a simmering, not quite flashy type of routine that's so unlike any other routine performed this season. Alexis' legs reminded me of knives gliding over the stage, handled by master-chef Kiki to prepare the finest of meals. The moment with Alexis being lifted on tip-toes with bended knees was simply exquisite. Essence/Keaton - Jazz (Ellenore Scott): The pre-released pictures of them in boots and overalls already gave off more of a Hip-Hop then Jazz appearance so I was not surprised it ended up being more of the hard-hitting pop-py kind of Jazz rather the more broadway-ish type - which I'm very glad about since this and last season were oversaturated with the latter. I'm always living for the rare cases when a choreographer goes for a flamboyant/fabulous theme which is pretty much only when Brian Friedman or Mark Kanemura grace the stage once in a blue moon. My second favorite routine of the night! Also, I would totally wear those costumes in my free time lol. Keaton/Audrey - Contemporary (Robert Roldan): Right from the get-go I felt like we were thrust into a movie with Keaton closing the store at the end of a shift when we get to witness his chance encounter with Audrey. Those first few seconds with him at the table and then gliding over to his ex-lover suddenly moving into the frame had such a cinematic feeling to it: Him, swiftly sliding into the spotlight in full frontal view, an open look on his face, her, stoically approaching, her back turned to the audience, closed-off, distant. This difference in attitude throughout the routine even as they, of course, harmonize while dancing together, had me completely captivated. I'm not exaggerating, I was frozen on the spot, utterly entranced by every little detail, from Audrey carefully placing her hand on Keaton's chest and then tearing it away as if trying to rip his heart out, or Keaton's trembling arms as he kowtows before her as he seems to beg for forgiveness; or the absolutely seamless transitions like when Audrey performs an arabesque before Keaton whisks her away in a 360 degree spin, seating her on his shoulder in the span of single second. Another part that struck me was how well-matched the lyrcis happened to be: "I've acted out my life on stages With ten thousand people watching" as they are literally dancing in front of millions of viewers with Keaton drawing from his experience of having his heart broken, while executing that awe-inspiring, acrobatic-looking lift where Keaton lifts Audrey up from his shoulders with both their hands still connected to each other, a flashy, eye-catching moment meant for the masses. And then juxtaposed by "But we're alone now And I'm singing this song to you" as they, along with the rotating camera shot, come to halt on their knees, shortly lingering, before moving into a highly intimate pose, Keaton inaudibly whispering to Audrey as conflicted emotions flash over her face. It's amazing to see Robert's growth as a choreographer over the seasons starting off with his routines for Hannahlei/Marko, Gaby/Ezra and now this. The way he intersperses so many little moments of stillness between the fast-paced sections of this routine that allow the dancers to really dig into their emotions is just... I can't really describe it except that it stirs up an almost cruel sense of longing. No matter how many short-comings people attribute to this season, the fact that I got to follow Keaton's journey made it all worth it. His two Contemporaries, the one tonight and his very first routine by Talia Favia are two of my favorite performances ever on this show.
  6. Week 7: Alexis/Keaton - Bollywood (Nakul Dev Mahajan): 6.5 Alexis/Essence - Contemporary (Chase Haley Bowden): 5.5 Essence/Robert - Hip-Hop (Mel Charlot): 7.5 Keaton/Audrey - Contemporary (Robert Roldan): 9.5 Alexis/Kiki - Argentine Tango (Miriam & Leonardo): 8 Essence/Keaton - Jazz (Ellenore Scott): 8.5
  7. ^ I don't think it's a coincidence that Keaton named Tessandra Chavez and Luther Brown as choreographers he'd love to perform a routine for. https://youtu.be/ceZ8Zoz_P-Y?t=102
  8. This so much. I can only rewatch Keaton slay his part in the Luther Brown Hip-Hop group routine that many times.
  9. These past few weeks Keaton has been a seemingly endless source of joy for me. Watching him dance never fails to bright up my day! He combines all the qualities I'm looking for in a contestant on this show: a mature performer who fully commits to every character he plays and who knows how to cater to the audience, a skilled strong partner capable of executing impressive lifts, who can be strong and powerful and but who is not afraid of showing a gentle and deeply emotional, even vulnerable side of him, especially in his solos where he leaps so high one might think he's floating and yet lands as softly as a feather.
  10. Week 5: Top 6 - Contemporary (Jaci Royal): 7 Carter/Bailey - Hip-Hop (Gabe de Guzman): 6.5 Alexis/Amy - Jazz (Ellenore Scott): 7.5 Keaton/Ezra - Jive (Emma & Sasha): 8.5 Essence/Koine - Contemporary (Jaci Royal): 6.5 Beau/Lex - Contemporary (Talia Favia): 7 Ralyn/Comfort - Hip-Hop (Luther Brown): 5 Week 6: Alexis/Essence/Ralyn - Hip-Hop (Mel Charlot): 7 Beau/Carter/Keaton - Broadway (Dominique Kelly): 5.5 Beau/Carter/Ralyn - Contemporary (Chase Bowden): 7 Alexis/Essence/Keaton - Jazz (Jonathan Redavid): 7.5 Carter - Solo (Jive): 7.5 Alexis- Solo (Latin): 8.5 Essence - Solo (Hip-Hop): 8 Ralyn - Solo (Contemporary): 6.5 Beau - Solo (Jazz): 5 Keaton - Solo (Contemporary): 9
  11. Ralyn/Beau - Jazz (Jonathan Redavid): 4 Essence/Keaton - Disco (Doriana Sanchez): 6.5 Waverly/Anna - Jazz (Sean Cheesman): 3.5 Alexis/Carter - Contemporary (Robert Roldan): 7 Waverly - Solo (Contemporary): 4 Anna - Solo (Contemporary): 7 Carter - Solo (Latin): 6 Alexis - Solo (Latin): 9 Beau - Solo (Musical Theater): 3 Ralyn - Solo (Contemporary): 7.5 Keaton - Solo (Contemporary): 8 Essence - Solo (Hip-Hop): 5.5
  12. I wanted to like Alexis/Carter's Contemporary, Essence's and Waverly's solo a lot more than I actually did since I have a soft spot for all of them. The former ticked a lot of the boxes of what a pleasant looking Contemporary routine should usually provide (the big climax, the build-up before - I especially liked the small bits of partnered pirouettes, done clockwise and counterclockwise back-to-back) but as a whole I didn't find it very memorable especially compared to the many other romantic Contemporary routines set to 90s music we've had on this show before. Essence's solo somehow felt disconnected to the music and Waverly looked very flaily in his. I was hoping for something more stylized from him, similar to his audition. Ironically Beau's solo felt way too similar to his audition. On the other hand Alexis' solo blew me away with how fun and high-energy it was! Ralyn's solo was wonderfully contemplative; gentle and powerful at the same time. Keaton's solo brought me so much joy. He's so light on his feet, it was like he was floating through the air. I think in the end the disco routine ended up being my favorite duet of the night, even though it slightly ran out of steam near the end. The "human helicopter" spin as tWitch called it was absolutely crazy and I just love Keaton fully commits to each dance as a performer.
  13. Week 3: Anna/Carter - Salsa (Jonathan & Oksana): 4.5 Essence/Waverly - Bollywood (Achinta S. McDaniel): 6 Jordan/Beau - Viennese Waltz (Sasha & Emma): 8.5 Ralyn/Keaton - African Jazz (Sean Cheesman): 7.5 Alexis/Thiago - Broadway (Al Blackstone): 6.5
  14. 1 Ralyn Johnson & Carter Williams - "Mindless Town" (Contemporary): 22 Alexis Warr & Keaton Kermode - "I Like It Like That (Uproot Andy Remix)" (Cha-Cha): 7 Virginia Crouse & Lord Finn Thomas - "Eight" (Contemporary): 1 Anna Miller & Beau Harmon - "exile" (Contemporary): 47 Essence Wilmington & Thiago Pacheco - "The One" (Hip-Hop): 15 + Alexis & Keaton - Essence Wilmington & Thiago Pacheco
  15. #1 Ralyn Johnson & Carter Williams - "Mindless Town" (Contemporary): 18 Alexis Warr & Keaton Kermode - "I Like It Like That (Uproot Andy Remix)" (Cha-Cha): 11 Virginia Crouse & Lord Finn Thomas - "Eight" (Contemporary): 12 Anna Miller & Beau Harmon - "exile" (Contemporary): 35 Essence Wilmington & Thiago Pacheco - "The One" (Hip-Hop): 14 + Alexis & Keaton - Virginia Crouse & Lord Finn Thomas
