Saw a Little bit of Kelly in someone on Idol..., Anyone agree? Or am I crazy? Options

During group rounds in Hollywood, this girl held her own really well vocally and towards the end of her solo section she had some rasp in her high notes and did some runs that kind of sounded like something Kelly would do. Her name is Jen Hirsh. I'll keep my eye on her. She isn't a Kelly clone or anything by ANY means, but the upper range sounded like she had potential to do some Kelly style stuff.

She doesn't have the magic or power that Kelly does for me, but something about her vocal made me think of Kelly very quickly. Anyone agree?

I thought the same thing and someone in the show thread said she's they think she's kind of a mixture of Kelly and Sara Bareilles.

She's definitely one of my favorites. She's not Kelly Clarkson, no one ever will be but she's really good.

Yes, this girl has been getting a lot of buzz, I don't even know the others but I have noted her because many talk about her. We'll see how she does.

She actually reminds me a bit of Katharine McPhee to be honest. Either way, she is really awesome.

So far, Jen has not left much of an impression on me. I think she needs a little more control over her voice. However, it's still early, so maybe there will be an improvement.

I see* the Sara Bareilles resmblance. She looks like the love child of Sara and Jack White. But her voice doesn't impress me. Her "shouty belt" sounds more like yelling/shouting than actually singing. And it's not even that strong.

I haven't watched an entire season of Idol since Kradison ( ) and a few semi-final weeks with Siobhan Magnus and maybe one episode of Scotty/Lauren. But it really can't be that hard to find a phenomenal "big-voice" female vocalist. I know they're rare, but when's the last time Idol had one? Jordin Sparks & Melinda Doolittle? That's quite some time.

Can she do Pop/Rock? From what I can tell she's a ballad singer, but I haven't been watching the show in recent seasons too much so I'm not sure.

I LOVE THIS GIRL! She's like a mix of Kat McPhee and Kelly in one, but I'll reserve judgement until the semifinals (assuming she makes it to Top 24).

I may be alone on this but Skylar, that country girl, actually reminds me more of Kelly.

I felt that way too before last season. During seasons 7-9, a few singers tried, but none of them hit the mark for me. (Carly Smithson came close.) I started wondering if Idol/voters would ever put those types of singers through to the top 12-13 again, and then Pia came along. After she was eliminated, I fell in love with Haley's voice, and now she's one of my favorite contestants ever. (Funny how I didn't like her at all in the beginning. ) Haley's not a glory note singer, but she has the power, chops, and range.

Anyway, Jen is certainly one to watch. I'm also keeping an eye on Hollie Cavanagh and Jessica Sanchez, two singers who haven't been featured that much yet. The female talent is promising this year, but I'm waiting for the live rounds to be excited (or not). I've seen early promise turn into disappointment too many times, so I'm holding off until later.

Jessica Sanchez and Hollie Cavanagh are definitely ones to watch, I think those two along with Jen could end up being really good.

Last season finally brought the female talent back with Haley, Pia and even though she struggled to live up to her audition Lauren. Lets hop it continues this season.

That is the problem I have with Jen. She's not really a power singer and yet she keeps trying to belt out notes and it ususally descends into shouting. I think she has a lovely voice and she is one of my favorites but some people are not meant to belt their way through a song and I think she is one of them.

I liked Carly. I also like Syesha, Haley, and Allison. But even compared to Jordin Sparks, I think they were fairly weak.

Yea I wanted to like Jen but she just over sang everything. She has a really nice voice when she doesn't over do it.

Erika, Skylar, Hollie, and Jessica all did amazing yesterday. Girl power on Idol this year!
